Just What is Behind These Suicides?

It is quite common for homosexual activists to blame suicide in their ranks on ‘homophobia’. ‘If we would just be more tolerant and accepting of homosexuals, these rates would drop’ they claim. But are these claims in fact true? The evidence seems to suggest that they are not.

A simple way to test this is to look at places where homosexuality is very much accepted, such as in nations like Holland, or cities like San Francisco. One would expect less suicide and other mental health problems amongst homosexuals in these places. But that is not the case. There is as much if not more suicide and related problems in these localities. So homophobia cannot be to blame.

As one commentator puts it, “Studies done in the Netherlands and New Zealand, for example, where there is generally high tolerance of sexual ‘diversity,’ found the same high rates of psychological difficulties as those done elsewhere.” A number of international studies have borne this out.

A panel convened by such groups as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Psychological Association, and the American Association of Suicidology made this finding: “There is no population-based evidence that sexual orientation and suicidality are linked in some direct or indirect manner”.

A study published in Pediatrics entitled “Risk factors for attempted suicide in gay and bisexual youth,” examined 137 youths who deemed themselves ‘gay’. Says the study, “In this sample, bisexuality or homosexuality per se was not associated with self-destructive acts”. This study found that less than one in ten homosexual youths attempted suicide because of their homosexuality. Bear in mind again that attempts are always much more common than completed suicides.

But the myth that ‘homophobia’ causes high suicide rates keeps being repeated because it nicely serves in the overall cause of the militant homosexual lobby: to get mainstream acceptance of homosexuality. Indeed, by using skewed statistics, homosexual activists are seeking to win over societal acceptance.

This strategy is outlined in the influential homosexual publication, After the Ball by Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen. In this book the authors urge homosexuals to cast themselves as victims and “invite straights to be their protectors”. Such a strategy is obviously working.

Indeed, it has resulted in many schools inviting homosexuals into the classroom to tell students that homosexuality is normal, and that students need to overcome their ‘homophobia’. Polished videos have been produced by the homosexual lobby to convince teachers to invite in homosexuals to help change children’s perceptions of homosexuality. A number of elementary schools in America have done just that, and there is pressure on for Australian schools to do the same.

But these programs are just further attempts at normalising homosexuality among our school children. It is important therefore that the myths of homosexual teen suicide be exposed. As one pro-family leader has commented: “Teen suicide is always a tragedy. But tragedies should never be manipulated in order to advance an agenda – especially one that lures youth into an immoral, disease-ridden lifestyle”.

Pro-family activist Maggie Gallagher has recently written on this very subject, and her remarks are worth repeating here: “Gay students are also more than twice as likely to report having had sexual intercourse before age 13 – that is, to be sexually abused as children. They are three times as likely to report being the victims of dating violence, and nearly four times as likely to report forced sexual contact.

“A majority of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) teens in Massachusetts reported using illegal drugs in the past month. (Perhaps most oddly, gay teens are also three times as likely as nongay teens to report either becoming pregnant or getting someone else pregnant.)

“Forced sex, childhood sexual abuse, dating violence, early unwed pregnancy, substance abuse – could these be a more important factor in the increased suicide risk of LGBT teens than anything people like me ever said? The deeper you look, the more you see kids who are generally unprotected in deeply tragic ways that make it hard to believe – if you are really focusing on these kids’ well-being – that gay marriage is the answer.

“And that’s exactly what the Youth Risk Behavior data also show. Massachusetts has been tracking gay high school students for a decade using the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey. In 2001, gay teens in Massachussetts were almost four times more likely to have attempted suicide (31 percent vs. 8 percent). In 2007 – after four years of legalized gay marriage in that state – gay teens were still about four times more likely to attempt suicide than nongay teens (29 percent vs. 6 percent).

“Whether you are looking at their faces or looking at the statistics, one thing is clear: These kids need help, real help. They should not become a mere rhetorical strategy, a plaything in our adult battles. Each of these teens is a child of God. And each one deserves better from all of us than becoming a ‘teachable moment’ in someone else’s culture war.”

Quite so. Homosexuality is a very risky and unhealthy lifestyle. Instead of using our schools to force-feed kids pro-homosexual propaganda, we should use them to tell young people the truth about this harmful lifestyle. Such people need help and they need truth. They do not need more encouragement to further move into this dangerous lifestyle.

  1. It’s all smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, deception. It ignores the fact that depression, suicide, insanity and murder and abortion are experienced amongst the straight community when they too engage in fornication and adultery.

I bet King David felt suicidal after his affair with Bathsheba.

  2. It seems to me, one of the best things that could be done is to make it clear that we are first and foremost, male and female, and that this is two halves of the one function that has a clear and designed purpose, evidenced by reproduction. Strangely enough, the Word of God endorses only this as well. (Well, imagine that – the Bible having good grounding in reality – who’d have thunk it?) If your body is physically wired a certain way, then getting thoughts to follow is easier than trying to force the physical to fit the distorted thinking about sex. Your body will still be the same regardless, unless you ‘alter’ it surgically, which is really just an elevated form of mutilation (and I have nothing but contempt for those ‘doctors’ who would make money performing such procedures) We are not ‘heterosexual’ or ‘homosexual’, we are male and female. But the kind of reaction a person’s conscience would go through if they engage in such behaviour must be terrible to experience.

How utterly reprehensible it is for those militants activists to deny the possibility of healing from those who want help. To force homosexuality into the category of identity rather than dealing with it as it is – a very deep personal addiction of the psyche that can have a myriad of causes and therefore require much work and willpower to overcome; no wonder many young people feel lost and with no hope. If anyone is to blame for these suicides, then let us start with those who refuse to allow those who want to change to access that opportunity and use incendiary words like ‘homophobia’. All that talk about that kind of therapy being dangerous as a concept is complete garbage. Let those who want help get all the chance they can. And of course the best place to start is the forgiveness for repentance available at the foot of the cross where Jesus died. No-one has to think they have no hope when the greatest hope in the world has been won for them.

  3. The term homophobia is one of the most outrageous inventions of ‘gay’ activism, to try to intimidate Christians into tolerating homosexuals. Homophobia from the dictionary means hatred & fear of such things, which we are not, just not accepting this choice of lifestyle because God says it’s wrong.
The schools are a major ‘battle ground’ for teenagers while they’re young & vulnerable, & still discovering who they are, & the lobby groups see this & take advantage of our young ones. My nephew was turned this way.
I also read this- Today, in a bid to tackle ‘homophobia’ in Victoria’s education system, Princes Hill will be one of 11 schools to form a ”Safe Schools Coalition”. The government has provided $80,000 to the coalition, and a further $20,000 for a training seminar to help teachers confront homophobia. The coalition is overseen by the Rainbow Network and the Foundation for Young Australians!
    It’s already in Australian curriculum-http://www.protectionist.net/2008/04/18/nsw-school-children-being-indoctrinated-with-homosexual-agenda/
Not only are schools pushing pro-homosexual indoctrination under the guise of “anti-bullying” programs, but the hardcore proselytes are fighting tooth and nail to prevent parents from being allowed to opt their children out of these propaganda sessions.

I am confused by this article. At first you quote studies to show that there is no correlation between homosexuality and suicidality showing that ‘homophobia’ is not a cause of suicide.

But later you list quotations showing that high suicide IS an outcome of homosexuality.

Not sure if I am missing something here.

Sorry, that is partly my fault as I was cutting down lots of info from a much larger research paper I had done on this, the findings of which were dealing with differing aspects of this issue, so some misleading results may have occurred. The first bit of research in general tells us that homosexual suicide rates are not massively higher than those of others. The second bit is arguing that homosexual suicide is not really related to ‘homophobia’ since the surrounding culture was much more predisposed to and supportive of the lifestyle (eg., Mass).

Even if there is ambiguity here from the experts, two messages are coming out: suicide may not be greatly higher simply because of sexuality, but if it is, it is not ‘homophobia’ as such which is responsible, but a lifestyle which is inherently problematic to begin with.

  6. To David re that You-Tube video

    – Left-handedness – smokescreen
…note in her language how it always relies on the assumption of homosexuality-as-identity. And note how she dismisses the value of the guy’s testimony with some deft side-stepping. She should be forced back on topic to admit that the guy has had his life dramatically changed. (I’m assuming that’s what she was answering)

    – Any sex act which does not act within its obvious designed purpose cannot be loving and also basically says to God – ‘No, God, I know better than you what to do with my body – even though you created it.’ It is innately an act of rebellion against the screamingly obvious testimony of one’s own body. Male and female go together and there are close to 7 billion reasons on the planet why that statement is utterly correct. If someone rejects their own body, it’s unlikely they will be swayed by the word of God. It is sin.

As for focussing on the act, she neatly uses the tactic of dismissing this by changing the subject. The fact is, Sharon, the act is one that is not good for the human body, resilient as it is. I’d love to ask her – “I can define a specific action that defines pedophilia – what specific action defines homosexuality?” The act is the issue.

    – Sodom and Gomorrah was never about inhospitality. Only ‘theologians’ who are false teachers would say that. It is a lie, or else Jude 7 should be disregarded. And the rest. Oh that’s right, I forget that one reference pulled out of context (Ezekiel 16:49-50) supposedly negates all the others. (funny how they will gloss over the meaning of ‘detestable’ in that passage though) Note how when Jesus was tempted the devil used scripture too. Next.

    – Jesus included everyone to give them the opportunity to repent, lest they die in their sins without forgiveness from God. Those who preach a lovey-dovey Jesus always seems to miss step 2. Jesus mentioned hell rather a lot for someone who was just about inclusiveness and nothing else. Half a gospel is no gospel at all.

    – The alleged centurion/servant homosexual relationship is a patently false teaching. When people are clutching at straws like this, you know they have little substance, otherwise they would use that instead.
    http://www.robgagnon.net/HomosexCenturionStory.htm

I’d also say, well done, Sharon, for removing hope from people who realize deep down that this lifestyle is not healthy and want to give it up. I suggest that for every phone call she gets about someone having trouble with therapy that there would be substantially more that would have a positive experience. Sexual issues are complicated, but they are not helped when the destination some want to bring people to disregards basic medical facts about the human body. That will not, indeed, cannot work. Lies, no hope, abuse of the human body, twisting of Scripture and rebellion against God, that defines what Sharon Ferguson believes is good. Wolf! Wolf!

  7. Anita, I heartily agree that these “—phobia” verbal concoctions are so much language pollution. And “homophobia” is one such item. For starters, it is a combination of bad Latin and even worse Greek. “Homo” in Latin means simply “man”, and has nothing to do with homosexuality; then “phobia” comes from “phobos” meaning “fear”, and has nothing to do with hatred, as is current usage.
Secondly, it is a smear term exploited by the homosexual lobby, and has become part of the vocabulary of politics as well. Like all smear terms, it has no valid meaning or conceptual content, but as an abusive epithet it serves very well as a ‘smackdown’ against any opponent. In an environment where ad hominems and abusive labels are widely used as substitutes for valid argument, “homophobia” has come into vogue.
Thirdly, as it stands it sounds like an illness or medical condition, on a par with pyrophobia, or acrophobia, or claustrophobia, for which the sufferer is more to be pitied than abused, for which some form of medical treatment is applicable. I ask the users of this term to come clean: is “homophobia” a medical condition? If so, then cut the language of blame! Is it a moral position, and a reprehensible one? Then stop confusing the issue by using quasi-medical terminology!
Bill, much as I appreciate the article above, although like Damien I found it a bit confusing, could you use, or coin, some other word than “homophobia” rather than falling in with the world’s terminology? And when using this made-up menagerie please use inverted commas.
    Murray R Adamthwaite

  8. Thanks Bill
The only solution to the hopelessness and self-loathing that leads so many to contemplate or attempt suicide is the forgiveness and hope granted by the most-High God when one receives Christ, His word and His work on the cross. As the gospel is increasingly being side-lined by the PC crowd the fruit is evident all around us. Someone said the Bible is being proved true as our societies rejection of it leads to the inevitable fruit of damaged and destroyed lives.
The greatest phobia in our time is not homophobia but Christophobia. IMO
    Glenn Christopherson

  9. I find it odd how homophobia can be a term used toward those that believe homosexuality is morally wrong. I thought phobias were fears. I’m sure most people who suffer from arachnaphobia don’t believe that spiders are morally wrong. They’re just afraid of them. I’m not afraid of homosexuals, but I most definitely believe that their chosen lifestyle is wrong.
    Mario Del Giudice

  10. Thanks Bill. I believe it’s clear that all promiscuity, heterosexual or homosexual, is closely connected to a lack of appropriate love and affection from fathers and/or sexual abuse as children. A truly loving father is a wonderful gift. I’m inclined to believe all promiscuity, fornication, adultery and every other sexual deviation have their origins in this same neglect or abuse. Thank God for the healing available through Jesus Christ for all.
    Vickie Janson

  11. Good point Murray, so called “homophobia” is a convenient invention of the homosexual lobby (I prefer not to use the term “gay”) which unfortunately has found it’s way into the English language. I too am tired of the slap down that one usually gets when daring to question the homosexual lifestyle. I am also very concerned for the younger generation who particularly seem to be buying the “gay marriage” concept in the name of equality.
    Peter Coventry

  12. Like Anita I was scandalised by a TV program {“60 mins”?} promoting the safe schools coalition. Not the least of my horror came from the entire mindset revealed by this appalling promotion. There was a sickening pose of benign and compassionate understanding combined with open acceptance and encouragement of promiscuous behaviour among adolescents of whatever so- called “orientation”. I was reminded of that pervert “educationist” of the 70’s who encouraged similar behaviour among his students. Summerhill I think the place was called. What was then an acknowledged scandal is now to be encouraged and funded!!!!
God have mercy on us and on our children. How will they ever have spiritually, emotionally and sexually fulfilling marriages? I could weep for them.
    Anna Cook

  13. Mark, the tragedy is that useful, Christian idiots, let alone the out and proud gays, are blinded by the kinds deceptions peddled by the likes of Sharon Ferguson.

It seems that gays have a repertoire of pre-cooked mantras, like “being gay is like being left handed,” that spread like measles around the globe.
The false analogy between homosexuality and left handedness was not challenged on the programme. But few of us are quick enough on our feet to spot the trick; even though we know a fast one has been pulled.

When Sharon Ferguson complained that some tried to force her to write with her right hand but that against all the odds, all the pressure, she continues triumphantly to write with her left, she fails to mention that she does not conform to the Arabic system of writing which goes from right to left and which is ideally suited to left handers. (Leonardo da Vinci, I believe was left handed which might, to some extent, explain his mirror writing.) To be consistent she would, like Leonardo, practise mirror writing, but she manages not to. Even those, in western countries, who have no use of hands but have to right with their feet or mouth, manage to conform to the objective reality that writing in the west goes from left to right. No, for the sake of communication, Sharon does suppress the full expression of her left handedness and conforms to society’s conventions. Pity that she and Peter and Tatchell cannot do that with their sexual inclinations in order to create a secure, stable, cohesive and fruitful society, built up by families with a husband and wife, father and mother at their centres.

  14. I can only guess that what is behind these suicides is a sense of being out of the mainstream of the rhythm of life. The world has gone round for thousands of years with men and women engaging in the act of procreation which has the long term purpose of human reproduction, creating generations from different families down the ages. This act involves active and passive dynamics which complement each other like yin and yang. Maybe there comes a time when homo-sex is perceived as not part of the natural way, providing only temporary gratification and a sense of regret kicks in. If this is the case, then anyone seeking solace in their anguished state should be helped and supported to get back to balance. Maybe there comes a realisation that you can’t just do what you like, without a moral compass, because there is an underlying order in life on our planet. Alternatively it could be just that someone has been jilted and hasn’t the inner strength to get over it. Whatever the cause, suicide is a sad, sad thing.
    Rachel Smith

  15. I agree with David Skinner. For example, the fact that a majority of glbt teens reported having used an illegal drug over the past month says nothing about how many straight teens also did the same. So I would not draw the same conclusion that glbt teens were more prone to drug abuse than straight teens.

And though I do agree with much of what Bill Muehlenberg has to say about glbt politics even as a lesbian myself, I don’t think these are reasons to turn it upside down and make a generalization that ignores the experiences of glbt people who don’t fall into those patterns.

I myself am not insisting on the normalization or the commonalization of homosexuality not because I regard it as lowly (I repeat again, I’m a lesbian) but because I do not see homosexuality as one single unvarying phenomenon that exists in only one form. That is where I part from common mainstream glbt politics, which tends to be reflexively defensive of almost any and all forms of homosexual behaviour without much consideration for the motives and the dynamics involved. Having said this, I am against coercive social attitudes and legal backing for such coercion. I’m writing from a part of the world where we still have this kind of coercion and if anything is sure to bring about my suicide, it would be to have my body and soul violated by being coerced into marital relations with a person I can only pretend to want (to appease a powerful and controlling society) and not really want.

As for God having made humankind as Man and Woman, that doesn’t hold true for everyone. Some people have been made as both. And if you think I’m talking about transsexuals, you’re wrong. There’s another, less known phenomenon and that is the ‘intersex’ people. This used to be called hermaphroditism but now it’s more commonly called ‘intersexualism’ and it is a physiological phenomenon that has to do with a person’s sex chromosomes. I’m not pointing this out to erode any sense of male vs female, since without these you wouldn’t have the male+female intersex condition. But I still think this is a phenomenon that should be taken on with a genunine, open and inquisitive spirit both by scientists and by society, especially with regard to the effects of genetic chimerism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_%28genetics%29#Tetragametic_chimerism).
This again takes me back to my previous point, that of homosexuality not being one uniform phenomenon, neither at the physiological nor psychological level and this should not be disregarded, by neither glbt activist nor by the rest of society.
    Yasemin Akdeniz

  16. Thanks Yasemin

Yes you are right that there are divisions and different shades in the homosexual community in terms of activism, radicalism, strategies, ideologies, and so on.

As to the intersex condition, it must be noted that only a very small percentage of people are in this category, and they are quite different from homosexuals. In this condition, there are real genetic abnormalities resulting in sexual confusion. There can be ambiguous genitalia, chromosomal imbalances – eg, having an extra sex chromosome – and so on. These can be found in conditions such as Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Turner Syndrome, Klinefelter’s Syndrome, and Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome.

Intersex conditions are mostly innate, and have very little to do with the homosexual community, although of course homosexual activists have been quite keen to claim intersex folk as their own. Most intersex folk strongly reject such attempts at being co-opted by and for the homosexual political agenda.

  18. Yes, Labor’s new plan to support homosexuals involves a $2.5 million election promise… to try and get the ‘pink’ and the Green’ vote!
It includes funds to try and prevent ‘prevent gay youth suicide’, funds for the homosexual counselling line, for Gay and Lesbian Health, and the anti-violence project and so on…
PLUS more laws to combat ‘homophobic harassment’, expanding the Relationship Register scheme, ‘reviewing’ same-sex adoption and more.
As well as a special advisory committee to tell them what to do and paying an interest group as well!

Read the government’s full media release
and our report at Salt Shakers.

Now we know what Labor REALLY stands for!

  19. Yasmin, you misinterpreted my statement about straights being just as vulnerable to depression and suicide as gays. Despair and depression come to the human race for a whole host of reasons. Jesus Christ himself wept tears on many occasions and expressed utter abandonment whilst hanging on the cross: “My God, my god, why has though forsaken me?” He has been there and knows more than anyone on Earth the frailty of the human condition. But he did not, out of hatred of himself, like Judas, commit suicide in an attempt to attain annihilation or oblivion. He died in our place so that we might have eternal life – not oblivion. Gays suffer from internalised hatred of themselves (homophobia) which has nothing to do with societal rejection. As we have seen in Holland, a country with the most liberal and gay affirming attitudes, gays are in a bad place, with regard to mental health and suicide

  20. One thing that you are absolutely right about Bill is that this is war we are engaged in. And in any war, only one side can win.

In this war me must all stand up and be counted as soldiers of Christ. As Christians with a Biblical worldview, there’s no way in heaven or earth that we are going to ever “tolerate” homosexuals. Indeed, there’s plenty of evidence to show that whenever a society makes the mistake of condoning this perversion, God intervenes and brings that civilisation to an end. Perhaps we are beginning to see that in the West.

I think more radical action is required, and we need strong right-wing governments to stand up for and implement Christian morals. It’s not fair on us to expect Bill to do all the hard work by raising awareness of the threats facing our civilisation. We have to take action too.

No doubt liberals will see it as harsh, but I think homosexuals must be helped, even if they don’t want help. I have known a drug-addict in my time. It was not a pleasant experience, and they called me all the things under the sun when I refused to give them money and took them to a clinic, but once they were clean and living a normal, decent life, liberated from the pain and misery of their affliction, they thanked me profusely – and still do.

The same will be true of all addicts and mentally afflicted people, especially if that perversion is homosexuality. For the sake of our civilisation, we should enforce change for the better for these people. Indeed, it is our Christian duty to bring them to Christ. Those who wish to be cured, we can reach out to and help with compassion.

I genuinely think unless we go down this path it will be the end of Christianity as a force for good in the world. What place then for truth and morals? It doesn’t bear thinking about.

Tolerance is not an option. These people don’t need our tolerance nor our acceptance, they’re crying out for our HELP, whether they know it or not.

    With warm wishes,

    Mrs Murray Leach

  21. Thanks for the comments on the abusive term “homophobia”. Disapproval of homosexuality as wrong or unhealthy is a reasoned moral position. True phobias, such as an irrational fear of open spaces, are anything but reasoned beliefs.

My observation of pro-gay types is that they use the term as a form of argumentum ad hominem, typically when the evidence goes against them. The correct response to that is to get back to the evidence and not be distracted by the red herring. Of course if the other person noisily persists with hostile ad hominems then the discussion or argument should be terminated. Homophobia as an accusation is also a vehicle for smearing others as prejudiced. If you examine the details, you’ll usually find that the accusation of homophobia and prejudice is itself prejudgmental. In other words it’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black. The proper answer to the charge of prejudice is to hold your critic to account. Let him rationally support the charge and show that the prejudice has lead to factual error on your part. If he can’t do that then the charge is fatuous.

On the matter of the relationship between suicide and homosexuality, I’m no expert but I had the impression that the evidence was somewhat inconsistent. Perhaps it is cross-culturally variable. We should get away from safely discussing homosexuality in the abstract and deal with specific behaviours in the cluster that defines the phenomenon. Instead of asking about the rate of suicide amongst homosexuals however defined we should pin the question to preferred behaviours. For example, are men promiscuously engaged in “cottaging” more likely to suicide than old dears holding hands in the park who have been together for years?

    John Snowden

  22. Barbara, herein lies our problem: unless the straight population understands that Jesus Christ came to redeem it from its own bondage to satan and to restore it into a right relationship with our Father in heaven, for His glory’s sake – not that of society – then it will not understand the effort of those who try to rescue gays from their emotional and sexual addictions and inevitable destination. You will be seen to be only a narrow -minded, hatefilled, homophobic bigot who is in need of psychiatric treatment.
Perhaps it is only when we Christians have enough love and compassion, as opposed to cold indifference, to tell members of our families, our neighbours and work colleagues of the saving grace of Jesus Christ, of their own need for redemption, restoring and healing, will the rest of society come to see that it and we are all responsible for producing this abomination.

    David Skinner, UK

  23. Yasmin, we have had contact with a number of intersex people – and, like Bill says, they are often concerned about being included in the glbt agenda.

However, your point about God creating men and women can’t just be used to say ‘well, He creates intersex people as well’ as though that is His perfect plan.

At the creation, when God created man and woman, he said His creation was ‘very good’.
It was after that, though, that sin entered the world – Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden and they, and all of creation, and all of their descendants, suffer the consequences of that – which includes sin, suffering, death and genetic abnormalities including intersex conditions.
As Christians, God requires us to live according to His Word, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in or the temptations we face.

    Jenny Stokes

  24. You’re absolutely right, David! Spot on, as usual, if I may say.

I have first hand experience of this. I am regularly avoided by other mums at my son’s school because they view me as a “narrow-minded, hatefilled, homophobic bigot” after I brought up in a parents’ meeting that I thought it was inappropriate for a homosexual to be teaching in the school and to have ready access to young boys. As a mother, it’s my duty to protect my son. He is 13.

Yet all the other parents have bought into the homosexual agenda and don’t see the appointment of a pervert as a problem. It beggars belief. The school is ostensibly Christian, and the students still say prayers every morning, but quite why it seeks to subvert biblical morality by allowing an agenda-pushing militant homosexual into the fold is anyone’s guess. When I brought up my biblical reasoning for taking a stand against this teacher nobody backed me up, even though the other mums are ostensibly Christians. They’ve been brainwashed into buying the liberal agenda hook, line and sinker.

I’d go much further than Bill in countering the homosexual menace to society. Sometimes there’s good reason to help people even if they don’t want to be helped, or don’t think they need help. I don’t hate homosexuals, I just want them to save themselves from damnation by leading moral lives and relinquishing their sordid desires. They may hate me for speaking the truth now, but when they feel Satan’s flames all over them in eternity, after AIDs or Hepatitis or depression has killed them young, they’ll remember what I said and wished to God they’d listened. It’s tragic. To tolerate them would be to give up on them and let them down. God has told us what he wants. It’s our duty to put that into practice, whether the homosexuals like it or not.

    Barbara Murray-Leach

  25. Murry said Anita, I heartily agree that these “—phobia” verbal concoctions are so much language pollution. And “homophobia” is one such item. For starters, it is a combination of bad Latin and even worse Greek. “Homo” in Latin means simply “man”, and has nothing to do with homosexuality; then “phobia” comes from “phobos” meaning “fear”, and has nothing to do with hatred, as is current usage.”

I know this is an old thread but I just want to correct this statement to prevent any confusion. “Homophobia” is a combination of two Greek terms, “homo” meaning “same” and “phobos” meaning “fear”. “Homo” and “hetero” are Greek terms meaning “same” and “different” respectively. “Homo” in Latin means “man” as in human or mankind and not as in male.

    Kylie Anderson

  26. There is another group who are persecuted far more than homosexuals – so much so, that they dare not reveal their true nature to anyone but close confederates. These people are called “criminals”. Now, I don’t know what the suicide rate is among criminals (I suspect it might be high), but I know that nobody has ever suggested that criminals commit suicide because the rest of society hates them, and keeps trying to put them in gaol.
