Chick-fil-A Haters: The Sweet Face of Tolerance

Many of you have now heard of the latest round in the tolerance brigade’s declaration of war on anyone and anything which dares to affirm heterosexual marriage and resist the militant homosexual lobby. The American fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is now subject to their wrath and vilification for this very thing.

And worse yet, this chain is headed up by a Christian – no wonder why the haters are foaming at the mouth here. The homosexual activists and the secular left have gone completely ballistic on this one, showing that fascism, not freedom, is what they are really all about.

The by now mandatory calls for a boycott have just been the beginning. Radical lefty politicians have also turned this into a personal crusade, declaring their contempt of faith, freedom, marriage and family. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino for example incredibly said he would do all he can to keep Chick-fil-A out of Boston. Imagine that!

Other political jackboots have followed suit. Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel also said he would make life hell for the Christian company: “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values. They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents. This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty.”

Absolutely mind-boggling. Christian values, marriage and family, the wellbeing of children – this mayor says he despises all of this and wants nothing to do with it. Perhaps we should not be surprised, since another famous politician who shares this hate – Barack Obama – also hails from Illinois.

Not only is this an utter inversion of all that is good and decent, but it is scandalous that private businesses are now the target of government vendettas. This madness led former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee to take a strong stance for the persecuted group.

Huckabee said: “The Mayor of Boston says he won’t allow Chick-Fil-A in Boston. Amazing that a mayor now has the power to stop commerce because he personally disagrees with the personal views of the CEO of a company.” Quite right.

There are other great examples of acceptance and true diversity here. Consider the Jim Henson Company: it is withholding its Muppets children’s toys from Chick-fil-A. The company said via Facebook, “The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors.”

It is hard to comprehend just how much hatred is being generated here. Go to any website by the militants and you will see stuff there that will make your hair curl. For example, actress and radical lefty Roseanne Barr showed her true loving and tolerant colours by offering this bit of sweetness: “anyone that eats S***fil-A deserves to get cancer”.

Wow, what a loving and accepting bunch. It sure is a good thing these guys are so into diversity and acceptance – just imagine if they weren’t. Ya gotta love all the tolerance and love that just oozes out of their every pore. You can just feel the love big time.

But all this hate and poison has not deterred the company. Its CEO, Dan Cathy, said he will continue to uphold the Biblical view of marriage. When asked about this he said he was “guilty as charged”. He would not back down an inch despite all the abuse, bile and pure hate he was receiving:

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,” he said in the interview. “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Michelle Malkin offers a bit of sanity on all this, especially on the city boycotts: ” It’s one thing for Hollywood moppets and television Muppets to protest Chick-fil-A over the fast-food chain president’s support for traditional marriage. They’re private citizens and entities. But when an elected public official wields the club of government against a Christian business in the name of ‘tolerance,’ it’s not harmless kid stuff. It’s chilling.”

She continues: “As I reported last year, the Cathy family’s commitments to ‘glorify God’ and ‘enrich the lives of everyone we touch’ have made them public enemies of the progressive left. Never mind that the company’s community service initiatives have supported foster care, summer camp scholarships and marriage enrichment. Never mind Chick-fil-A’s family-strengthening and faith-enhancing decision to forgo profits and close every Sunday to give workers a day of worship and rest.

“Anti-Christian organizers have been staging boycotts and smear campaigns against ‘anti-gay’ Chick-fil-A for the past year. An activist lesbian reporter for The New York Times poured fuel on the fire. The proprietors of The Muppets are just the latest to take a public stand.

“It’s their right. It’s also the right of Chick-fil-A supporters to organize social media campaigns, exercise their free speech and exercise the power of their pocketbooks to back the company.

“What’s disturbing is the flippant schadenfreude with which Tinseltown starlets such as actress Eliza Dushku are cheering Menino’s threat to Chick-fil-A’s First Amendment rights. ‘That’s right, B!’ she tweeted along with a link to Menino’s attack. What’s galling is the self-serving smugness of PC police such as Menino, who defended his vendetta against Chick-fil-A by bragging, ‘We’re a leader when it comes to social justice and opportunities for all.’

“Social justice and economic opportunity ‘for all’ — as long as you hold the proper political and social views. This is ugly repressive civility enforced with government brass knuckles. Boston’s Founding Fathers must be steaming in their graves.”

Yes quite right. This is war alright. But not just an ideological war. It is ultimately a spiritual war – nothing else could explain the horrendous hate and ugliness emanating from the tolerance brigade. Satan hated Jesus Christ so much he stirred the masses to crucify him.

And he is still at work today, stirring up all the usual suspects to pour out their hatred and contempt on any Christian who dares to publically stand up for his own faith and dare to defy the homosexual mafia.

  1. What a contrast are the Christian owners of Chick-fil-A to the Christians founders and owners of our own Gloria Jean’s Coffee. The former have stood firm and remained true to biblical truth despite a vicious year long campaign against them including even from government leaders. They have demonstrated they will not put profit ahead of their Christian witness.

However, the latter could not even hold out for one full week against a much less significant homosexual boycott of their business before offering a near total capitulation to the homosexual activists! A bit of bad press in the “pink media” and a bit of opposition mostly confined to the pages of Facebook was all it took for this company to deny the truth and offer apologies to the homosexual activists. They seem more concerned about profits than their Christian witness.

  2. Rob Emanuel and the mayor of Boston must be living in Hell because they want us to be with them, misery loves company.
They are against good wholesome family life, they want no part of.
There is a line that they have crossed and evil wants more.
    They are never satisfied.

  3. Well, we Christians will just have to boycott the Muppets, won’t we? I always believed that Miss Piggy and Kermit’s “relationship” was a tad abnormal…

  4. The psychiatrist Tanveer Ahmed has a great column out and exposes the push for gay marriage as just a western fetish;

The issue of gay marriage ignites one of the greatest fears first-generation Asians or Arabs have when they raise children in Australia – of rampant, unregulated sexuality tearing at the foundations of social stability and, particularly, the integrity of the family unit.

While this perception is usually stoked more by popular culture than any experienced reality, non-white immigrants generally come from cultures where homosexuality is considered an act, not an identity.

I used to consider these fears the outdated musings of people from pre-modern cultures, but increasingly I see the pernicious effects of social libertarianism through my work. Laissez-faire liberalism (on the right economically and the left culturally) has left too many people adrift, without sufficient structure, sense of obligation or meaning in their lives. Both sets of ideas elevate choice to a sacred quality.

My patients from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to exhibit emotional problems, delinquency, drug use, promiscuity, poor academic performance and other dysfunctions. Decades of loosening attitudes towards sex and drug use have hurt this demographic more than most.

Many non-white immigrants see the push for gay marriage as a further step down this road, which is likely only to add to the kaleidoscope of relationships legitimised by the state through its laws and welfare provisions.

While human sex has never been solely for procreation, there is scarcely a culture on earth in which marriage does not have a deep symbolic tie to reproduction, renewal and nature. It is a contradiction within the Greens, whose roots lie in a view of rapacious mankind sullying the natural world, that the legitimacy of gay marriage is elevated to one of its key concerns.

Elevating gay relationships to a level equal to that of heterosexual ones has little sway in immigrant communities, yet proponents continue to insist on its inevitability, as if it is a natural law. Just as with asylum seekers, the ALP is beginning to get the message.

  5. This is a freedom of speech issue. The GLBT campaigners want freedom of speech to only apply to people that support their campaign.

Ironically for years they campaigned for freedom of speech, now they are campaigning for the same bullying and censorship that they campaigned against…..just this time they only want their views to be free in what used to be a free and democratic society…..same in Australia and USA.

A bit of good news here: the PC Boston mayor seems to have backtracked, after a big outcry: “http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/26/boston-mayor-backs-off-attempt-to-block-chick-fil-a-i-make-mistakes/#ixzz21mPyHPkc

  7. I’m not a brave person, but I do get astounded at the lily-livered attitudes of many prominent people and others whenever they buckle under pressure from the ideological and illogical silly social engineers. One trouble is that as well as the lack of moral courage the things that motivate so much of people’s outward views include votes and money.

  8. This is just so typical of the knee jerk reactions that today’s PC parade take when anyone DARES have an opinion different to theirs. If you don’t support the gay movement then obviously you must be evil and intolerant, And this is from a group that demands respect and diversity eh. Give me a break. Far as i am concerned (and i am not even a religious man) Marriage is between a man and a woman, This is how it has been for many, many, many years (i would say thousand, but i really don’t know). I believe in God but i don’t follow any particular faith as i think God Is everything around me. Homosexuality is abnormal behaviour pure and simple. It is NOT normal, It is NOT right. But i TOLERATE it because it usually does not affect me. Now that this idiotic Gay marriage crap is on the forefront it is affecting me. No to gay marriage. No to gays accessing IVF, No to gays Adopting. They made their choice and now they want something they shouldn’t have.

  9. People need to go to Chick-Fil-A and eat up big. If you’re a vegetarian then give it to a homeless person.

The ‘we will destroy you’ methods of the left need to be stopped!

  10. Ewan, where did you see the information about Gloria Jean’s? that’s embarrassing and troubling if that’s the case.

    Liz Gee

  11. Good on you Scott Kendall
It really is that simple, no i don’t want anything bad to happen to gay people but i certainly don’t want them telling me gay is right and good and to get with the program. As if gay is something to behold, something to pass onto our children.
It should never have come to this stage.
    Daniel Kempton

  12. Liz,
The following statement was posted on the GJ’s Facebook page on June 15. It can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/gloriajeanscoffees/posts/10150972208299511

    To the community,

Over the last few days there has been a lot of discussion about our company and we would like to take the opportunity to clear the air.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees has a strong culture and belief in respect, equality and diversity. As a brand we comprise of many individuals including our Support Office team, hundreds of Franchise Partners and thousands of coffee house team members, each with the right to hold their own beliefs.

As a company we hold no position on marriage law, and in line with our values support people’s freedom to choose who they love. We are not homophobic and are proud that our team members come from all walks of life and sexual orientations, and we respect everyone’s opinion and the right to freedom of choice – political, religious, marriage or otherwise.

Again we would like to apologise for any hurt or offence which may have been caused by the paid advertising we undertook for the 2010 prime ministerial debate event, hosted by the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL).

The paid advertising was undertaken on a commercial basis only, and it appears that there is now a perception that we endorse the views and values of the ACL. This is not the case. Gloria Jean’s Coffees does not support the independent views and values of the ACL.

There is also still confusion about our relationship with Hillsong Church. Gloria Jean’s Coffees is a privately owned business and not owned by the Hillsong Church.

This misunderstanding often arises because our founders are active parishioners of their local Hillsong Church.

We are not affiliated with Hillsong, however we do support a wide range of charities and churches in the communities in which our coffees houses operate including Hillsong.

We are proud of our contribution to the community so please follow this link to our website where you can see the range of causes that we support.

    Yours sincerely,

Gloria Jean’s Coffees Senior Management Team: Nabi Saleh, Angela Saleh, Keith Brown, Gareth Pike, Rudi Selles, Nicole Saleh and Matthew Button

    Ewan McDonald, Victoria.
