More “Tolerance” and “Diversity”

OK, it’s been at least a week, so I am again far behind my regular “tolerance watch” updates. If you as much as blink, you will miss the latest example of how the militant homosexual thought police are attacking one and all for daring to take a different point of view from them.

There is so much happening here in this regard that my book which came out late last year is already woefully out of date. So hopefully soon my third edition – a revised and expanded edition – will be coming out, and it will include a whole new chapter full of such recent examples of the homosexual lobby’s take on diversity and acceptance. It could well become the longest chapter in the book!

You see, the tolerance brigade never sleeps or slumbers it seems: they are ever on the lookout for any transgressors which need to be targeted in yet another hate-filled campaign. They really are identical to every totalitarian state: they brook no opposition, their goal is complete conformity and uniformity, and they will tolerate no opposition.

They are fascists, in other words. There is no better word to describe these folks. They can talk about diversity and tolerance and acceptance till the cows come home, but they don’t believe in any of it. They only want tolerance (indeed, full acceptance) of themselves and their agenda – everyone else can just shut up.

The examples are never-ending. No sooner had the ink dried on my several articles on the Chick-fil-A battle in the US, and the shocking sabotage of a pro-marriage website in New Zealand, when more amazing and appalling cases sprung to light.

So let me feature three more examples of the tolerance brigade doing what they know best: stifling dissent, smashing democracy, and declaring war on freedom of speech, religion and conscience. The first comes from Canada, that hotbed of homosexual activism.

Consider one write-up about what the gender benders are up to in Toronto: “The Toronto District School Board is promoting a new curriculum guide encouraging students to cross dress. Lee Hicks, an elementary school teacher, artist, and ‘trans activist’ in Toronto wrote the 70-page long guide, called ‘Both/And’, for the school board. The guide targets students in kindergarten to grade 6, and uses art and discussion to talk about issues of ‘identity’ and ‘inclusivity.’

“In the guide Hicks says, ‘I ask the class members to all take a minute, close their eyes, and think carefully about the outfit that they either have or wish they had to best describe their true self. Directly after the idea of “what do you most want to draw yourself wearing” has been suggested into the students’ brains, I read them 10 000 Dresses by Marcus Ewert,’ Hicks says. ‘This book is about a kid named Bailey who happens to be born in a body that people read as “boy.” She dreams of all of the dresses that she would wear if she could make what she saw in her head…. and if her family would realize that actually – she is a girl on the inside.’

“The discussion questions for this story include asking both girls and boys which dress in the book they would most like to wear. A video, also created by Lee Hicks and entitled Both/And, corresponds with the guide and is meant to be shown in class as part of the curriculum.”

It is one thing when the sexual demolitionists do their own thing in private. But when they start targeting small children, seeking to foist upon them their perverted agendas, that is when I start getting angry, as should every concerned parent.

The second case also comes from Canada (who would ever want to live in that PC nightmare?). It is yet another attack on Christians, and Christian faith and practice. The secular state there is siding with the activists as they go on their search and destroy missions.

Here is how the story runs: “Christian owners of a bed and breakfast in British Columbia have been ordered to pay around $4,500 in damages after they refused to rent a room to a homosexual couple. Brian Thomas and Shaun Eadie had reserved a room at the Riverbend B&B in Grand Forks in June 2009, but owners Les and Susan Molnar cancelled the reservation after realizing they were homosexual. ‘To allow a gay couple to share a bed in my Christian home would violate my Christian beliefs and would cause me and my wife great distress,’ Lee explained in tribunal documents.

“Thomas and Eadie filed a complaint with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal, which ruled in their favour on Tuesday. Tribunal member Enid Marion ordered the Molnars to ‘cease and desist the discriminatory conduct,’ though they closed the B&B down in September 2009 as a result of the incident.

“Marion agreed with the two men that the Molnars violated section 8 of the B.C. Human Rights Code, which states that it is a discriminatory practice to ‘deny to a person or class of persons any accommodation’ because of ‘sexual orientation.’ He ordered them to pay each man $1,500 for damages to ‘dignity, feelings and self-respect,’ in addition to their travel expenses and lost wages for the tribunal proceedings.”

Small business owners, people with their own private establishment, are being specifically targeted by the hate brigade. I have reported other similar stories in various places in the West. These activists know full well where they are going, they know full well the response they will get, and they know full well it is just a set-up job, specifically done to attack believers and put them out of action.

The last story comes out of the US and goes like this: “Move over Chick-fil-A. There’s a new business getting heat for its stance on gay marriage. Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood, Colorado, is facing critics who are calling for a boycott after it refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple.

“Dave Mullin and Charlie Craig, who went to the shop earlier this month to ask about having a cake made for their wedding, say they dated for two years before getting engaged. After only seconds of entering Masterpiece, they claim that owner Jack Phillips turned them away. ‘My first comment was, “we’re getting married.”

“‘And he kind of just shut that down immediately,’ Craig explained. According to CBS Denver, the couple left the shop feeling downtrodden, so they went on Facebook to make their voices heard. The response to their story has since sparked protests. The outlet also notes that this isn’t the first time that Phillips has turned gay customers away.

“But while his views on the matter may seem discriminatory to some, Phillips stands by them. In an interview with CBS, he noted that he has no problem making birthday, graduation or other event cakes for homosexuals, but that wedding cakes are a different story.

“‘If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations, or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever,’ he said. ‘It’s just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle.’ This past weekend, protesters started lining up outside of the establishment in an attempt to convince Phillips to reverse course. But — he’s not planning on changing his mind.

“If it came to that point, then we‘d close down the bakery before we’d compromise our beliefs,’ Phillips proclaimed. ‘And so that may be what it comes to, but we’ll have to see.’ This story comes following the case of Victoria Childress, a baker from Des Moines, Iowa, who, earlier this year, refused to sell a cake to a lesbian couple. That incident, too, sparked outrage.”

So not even Christian cake-makers are safe anymore. And all along the activists are telling us that Christians have nothing to worry about, and that special rights for homosexuals, including marriage, will not impact anyone else. Yeah right, try telling that baloney to all the people above.

They are after us alright. And they will not stop until every last person either bows to their agenda, or is forever silenced. That is just what we expect in a police state. But it is not the way free democracies are supposed to be operating. But since when did the activists ever give a rip about freedom and democracy?

  1. Great column on the threat to religious freedom from Douthat at the NY Times:

“To the extent that the H.H.S. mandate, the Cologne ruling and the Chick-fil-A controversy reflect a common logic rather than a shared confusion, then, it’s a logic that regards Western monotheism’s ideas about human sexuality — all that chastity, monogamy, male-female business — as similarly incompatible with basic modern freedoms.

Like a belief that the gods want human sacrifice, these ideas are permissible if held in private. But they cannot be exercised in ways that might deny, say, employer-provided sterilizations to people who really don’t want kids. Nor can they be exercised to deny one’s offspring the kind of sexual gratification that anti-circumcision advocates claim the procedure makes impossible. They certainly cannot be exercised in ways that might make anyone uncomfortable with his or her own sexual choices or identity.

It may seem strange that anyone could look around the pornography-saturated, fertility-challenged, family-breakdown-plagued West and see a society menaced by a repressive puritanism. But it’s clear that this perspective is widely and sincerely held.”
