The Democrats’ War on Marriage and Family (and a Chick-fil-A Victory)

The American Democratic Party has long been a left of centre party, but it is quickly establishing itself as a radical leftist party. And the more extreme leftwing it gets, the more it will be hurting Obama’s chances of getting a second term in the White House – which is just fine by me.

So let them keep moving even further into the loony left; most Americans will be rightly disgusted by this, and will turn to a party which still champions traditional values and still supports marriage and family. Thus Obama has done us a great favour in many respects by being so outrageously anti-family and anti-faith.

The humongous turnout in today’s Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day is one clear example of this. Disgusted Americans are voting with their feet and are telling the radicals – be they the homosexual militants or their biggest fan in the White House – that they have had enough, and they are not going to take it anymore.

The photos of lines of cars backed up for miles outside of Chick-fil-A restaurants were greatly encouraging, as were the pics of the massive crowds packing into these stores around the country. It may be just a small, symbolic gesture, but such a massive turnout was a tremendous show of support for the Christian–owned company, and a clear rejection of the militant activist agenda.

Even the hate-filled bigots have had to admit the August 1 day of support was an overwhelming success. While many of them are showing their tolerance and sweetness by saying they hope all those who eat there choke and die (I kid you not), even they cannot deny the evidence of overwhelming American support. Not only has Obama showed just what a radically leftist Democrat he really is, but his party is doing no better. Consider its radical move to make homosexual marriage part of its official party platform in their upcoming national convention. Just how far off the rails are these guys?

Black American commentator Ken Blackwell discusses this in “Will Democrats End Marriage As We Know It?” He writes: “Mr. Obama’s position on marriage has changed. Or, more accurately, we might say his true position has come out. In 2008, he told Pastor Rick Warren that he believed ‘marriage is between a man and a woman. And God is in the mix.’ Which one moved?

“Democrats have announced they will put same sex marriage in their platform when they meet in convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. This, in a state that voted last May to sustain true marriage. North Carolina voters joined 31 other states in backing true marriage. The vote was a stunning 61%-39%. That was up from the last reputable public opinion poll which had showed 55% supporting marriage to 39% opposed.

“North Carolina’s marriage referendum was part of a nationwide pattern. True marriage typically does better at the ballot box than in public opinion surveys. Ohio, Wisconsin, and Florida are battleground states this year. In Ohio in 2004, 62% of voters backed true marriage. That helped to carry the Buckeye State and the election for George W. Bush. In Wisconsin in 2006, 59% of voters backed marriage. Every county in the Badger State except ultra-liberal Dane County (Madison) voted for marriage.

“And that was in the same year when Nancy Pelosi’s liberal cohorts swept into office. Florida saw marriage voters break the 60% threshold to lock marriage into the state constitution. If the Democrats’ platform embraces this radical proposal, they will be voting to end marriage, not change it.

“If you say a man may marry a man, and a woman may marry a woman, then on what principled basis can you say three men may not marry? George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley advocated polygamy at the Newseum in 2008–and was wildly cheered by the mostly liberal audience. As a professor of constitutional law, Turley knows that same-sex couplings will lead to polygamy – ‘and I’m for that,’ he says.”

He concludes, “Mae West once said: ‘Marriage is a great institution, but I’m just not ready for an institution.’ It’s too bad Mae West is not sitting on the Democratic Platform Committee. She had a keener understanding of true marriage than many of today’s evolved politicians.”

Quite so. Another commentator, Ben Shapiro, has just written about “The Democratic Party Fascists Take Over”. He highlights the Chick-fil-A saga, and begins this way: “Let’s say that you own a business. And let’s say that as a person of faith, you decide to use the profits from that business to support, at least in some small part, traditional marriage. Now let’s say that your political opponents find your position stunning and launch a boycott against your business. So far, no harm, no foul. It may be irritating that your political opponents choose to make your personal political predilections the basis of a crushing economic attack. But it’s their right.

“But now let’s say your political opponents are in government. And let’s say they use the power of their office to shut down your business — not because you violated any law or broke any regulation, but because they don’t like your position on traditional marriage. This would be fascism.”

He continues, “Welcome to Barack Obama’s America. Two of Obama’s closest political allies, Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston and Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, came out last week in favor of banning Chick-fil-A from their cities….

“Now, neither Emanuel nor Menino can legally bar Chick-fil-A from their cities. But this attitude – that businesses are worthy of government bans simply for failing to tow the liberal line – now infuses the Democratic Party. It’s why President Obama’s allies at Media Matters consistently team up with him to launch devastating boycotts against conservative business people. It’s why those public relations assaults are invariably well coordinated with government actors who suggest that force of law be used to punish those conservative business people.

“This is the difference between free speech and fascism. It’s one thing for people to choose not to engage in business with people with whom they disagree. That’s often nasty and extreme, but it’s certainly within First Amendment territory. It’s another thing entirely for the government to step in to punish people who disagree with liberal policies, simply because they disagree with liberal policies. That’s fascistic. It’s deeply dangerous. And it’s becoming the ugly new attitude of the Democratic Party elite.”

The good news is – as I already stated – the more radical Obama gets, the more he alienates people, even his own supporters. For example, blacks of course overwhelmingly voted for him in 2008. But with his declaration of war against marriage, the more socially conservative black community is having second thoughts.

Indeed, many are publically expressing their extreme disgust at what he has done. One news article puts it this way: “A group of conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama’s support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming support of the President, though the group’s leader is offering few specifics about the effort.

“The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign, has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans. He calls this campaign ‘an effort to save the family.’

“‘The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be that want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,’ said Owens, in an interview Tuesday after the launch event at the National Press Club. ‘I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road.’ At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black regional pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign….

“In a fiery Tuesday press conference at the press club, Owens said Obama was taking the black vote for granted and decried the idea of similarities between the gay rights movement and the civil rights movement, an assertion made by the NAACP following Obama’s same-sex marriage support…. A Pew Research Center poll conducted in April found that 49% of African-Americans oppose legalized same-sex marriage, compared with 39% who support it.”

So keep it up Obama. Keep it up Democratic Party. Keep alienating people with your radical agendas, and soon you will find yourselves looking for new work. And I don’t mind that at all.
