More Scenes from the Passing Madness

The downward spiral of Western civilization is reaching fever-pitch, with so many new examples of cultural decline and social suicide that one wonders if we are not going to hit rock bottom any second now. Things really cannot go down the tubes much further one would think.

To simply chronicle all this moonbattery would take an entire team of scribes working full time. It is hard to keep up with it all. Thus here I can only mention very briefly a number of new examples, and simply allow the cumulative effect to make its mark.

So let me offer another five hair-raising cases, beginning with the land of fruit and nuts: California: “The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples.

“Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered ‘infertile’ under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.

“The fact sheet supporting AB 460, the proposed legislation, states that insurance companies are denying coverage ‘based on [the policy holder’s] not having an opposite sex married partner in which to have one year of regular sexual relations without conception’.”

No wonder California is going down the tubes so fast. With moral and mental meltdowns like this taking place, it certainly cannot long last. Also on the homosexuality front, consider yet another example of the tolerance brigade in action:

“Catholic students at George Washington University are rallying to the support of their beloved priest after two gay seniors launched a campaign to kick him out of his post at the university’s Newman Center for preaching that homosexuality and abortion are sinful.

“The GW Hatchet, a campus newspaper, reported this week that seniors Damian Legacy and Blake Bergen are spearheading the campaign…. In their letter of complaint the pair will reportedly cite studies showing how being around ‘homophobic’ behavior can lead to loss of appetite and problems sleeping.

“The students complain that Fr. Greg Shaffer has spoken out against gay ‘marriage’ and abortion, and has counseled homosexual Catholic students to embrace celibacy. They said they were disturbed when Fr. Shaffer quoted the Book of Romans and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.”

Poor things – offended by the words of the Bible, and having sleeping problems! Yep, so let’s just get rid of the guy. After all, we don’t want freedom of expression and a genuine circulation of ideas on a college campus now do we? That would be just too much to ask. Indeed, it would require real freedom and democracy to have that sort of thing happening.

Example three comes from the US military. It has long been a promoter of political correctness and the homosexual agenda. And in doing so, it has been waging war against religion. Consider this incredible headline: “Army Reserve training material lists Catholics, evangelical Christians and some Jews in ‘religious extremism’ category along with the KKK, Hamas and Al Qaeda.”

The story opens, “A slideshow presentation shown to US Army Reserve recruits classifies Christians, including both evangelicals and Roman Catholics, as religious extremists, placing them in the same category as skinheads, the Ku Klux Klan, Hamas and Al Qaeda.

“The presentation also warned that members of the military are prohibited from taking leadership roles in any organization the Pentagon considers ‘extremist,’ and from distributing the organization’s literature, whether on or off a military installation. The opening slide warns that ‘the rise in hate crimes and extremism outside the military may be an indication of internal issues all [armed] services will have to face.”

Yep, evangelicals and Catholics are teaching their members how to fly airplanes into buildings, and how to strap on explosives and wander into crowded markets. Yep, exact moral equivalence here. But the God haters are not just found in the military.

Example four is most telling. The side that screams the most about tolerance, acceptance and just getting along almost never practices what it preaches. Rick Warren’s son has just tragically committed suicide after a long struggle with mental illness. Yet the peace and love brigade wasted no time in turning this into a political crusade, full of so much acceptance and love:

“Sad news struck the Christian community this weekend with the news of the death of Rick Warren’s son, Matthew, who committed suicide Friday. However, what followed only added to the Warren family’s heartbreak. Atheist and homosexual activists took advantage of the torn Warren to attack him because of his Christian views. According to USA Today, many atheists took to digital media to assure the Warren family that there is no Heaven. They highlight one particular poster who accuses Warren of ‘selling false hope’.

“You can find, among hundreds of comments on USA Today’s news story on Matthew’s death, comments such as the Cincinnati poster who says, ‘Either there is no God, or God doesn’t listen to Rick Warren, despite all the money Rick has made off of selling false hope to desperate people.’

“In another comment, the same poster counsels Warren to ‘abandon primitive superstitions and accept the universe for what it is — a place that is utterly indifferent to us.’ The hate from the left got even worse on twitter. With no substantiated proof, they begin to attack Warren by saying his son was homosexual, and even went as far as to accuse Warren of wanting homosexuals to die. Some of these statements may not be suitable for children so please be advised.”

Ah the sweetness and light from the tolerance brigade. If we could only all learn to be as loving and inclusive as they are. And of course we have seen exactly the same ugliness from the rabid secular left concerning the death of Margaret Thatcher, aged 87. Within minutes of the announcement the poisonous radicals were celebrating her death, posting the most diabolical things about her.

They will weep and mourn over the death of a dictator and thug like Hugo Chavez, but a freedom fighter and defender of all that is good and right is treated like dirt by this mob. As Bernie Finn remarked, “Watching the Left celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher reminds me that hatred is their oxygen. Without something – or someone – to hate, the Left has no reason to exist. They deserve our pity.”

But with the secular left firmly in charge of most things in the West today, we can only expect to see more of this in the days ahead. But the good news is, a few champions taking a stand can really turn things around. Margaret Thatcher was of course one such champion.

Indeed, when things were looking very black indeed last century, I believe she was providentially raised up, along with Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II to help be a bulwark against evil. Others concur: back in 2006 John O’Sullivan penned his important volume, The President, the Pope, And the Prime Minister: Three Who Changed the World.

In the book he demonstrates how three extraordinary individuals were able to remarkably transform their world. Each one had a resolute belief in freedom, and was willing to courageously fight oppression, taking the long view of history.

Those three certainly did change the course of the modern world, and as we again enter a new dark age, pray that God will raise up more heroes who will stem the tide and turn things back before it is too late.

  1. Thank you, Bill, for this valuable post of yours, which is both enlightening and deeply disturbing.

In June 2005, the American Jewish conservative columnist Don Feder made the following observation:

“If you’re an evangelical Christian, a Jew, a Catholic or any kind of believer — you have an implacable enemy — one who hates you and wants to destroy you. When I say hate, I’m not talking about pique, annoyance or a vague aversion. I mean hate the way Nazis hated Jews, the way white supremacists hate blacks, the way the Hutus hated the Tutsis.

“Once you reach this realization, it gives you an almost Zen-like clarity of vision and focus. Because then you understand your enemy, what motivates him, and what he is capable of. And you begin to comprehend what you must do to defeat him.”

When will ordinary Australians wake up and realise how desperate is our plight?

  2. Similar charges were made against those who stood up for the rights of the enslaved. I think we should be encouraged that we are such a threat to the world.

  3. The attacks on Margaret Thatcher have been truly appalling, even allowing for the fact that one cannot expect a dyed-in-the-wool Labour (UK) supporter to exactly like her.

There is little doubt that she made enormous changes in Britain; and depending on which end of the country you lived in, they were viewed either as positive or negative changes. I didn’t necessarily like all the things that she did, but even the least politically clued-up person could recognise that she emanated some very special energy….something not often seen.

Yes she got some things wrong; no-one is perfect; and not everything worked out for the best. The outpouring of hatred, however, since her death has been quite an eye-opener. I’ve read the blogs of a few people who I knew would probably jig up and down somewhat, but even they have resorted to outright venom. I personally can’t abide the likes of Tony Blair, for example; but I cannot see any benefit in having a party upon the news of his death, were that to happen any time soon.

The fact that so many people still harbour such hate, well over twenty years after she left office, must mean that she had some personal power that they didn’t like. There have even been youngsters celebrating that weren’t born when she became PM. Add this to the hate levelled today at Christians, natural male-female relationships and the family and we have a horrendous torrent to overcome. Somehow, somehow, we must find the same courage that Mrs Thatcher had; determination to stand our ground and fight.
