On Islamophobia and Creeping Sharia

Oh dear. On another site a friend had some guy saying on his post that as a Christian he had to stand up against Islamophobia. He does? How come? I would have thought that a Christian might be more interested in standing up against Christophobia.

Why do I get the idea this guy would also likely stand against Naziphobia, KKKphobia and Khmer Rouge phobia? No wonder the church is in such a mess, with “tolerance” loons like this around. Appeasement and capitulation seem to be the order of the day for far too many Christians.

And in the meantime Islam continues its slow but steady advance throughout the West. Examples of creeping sharia are legion, yet the West is largely snoozing through the whole thing. After all, we don’t want to be seen as Islamophobic now do we?

So here are four more worrying examples of stealth jihad: two from overseas and two from Australia. Let’s begin with the UK and this creepy headline: “Children of 8 are ‘racist’ if they miss Islam trip: School’s threatening letter to parents is met with outrage”.

The story begins: “Parents were ordered to send their children to a workshop on Islam or have them labelled as racist for the rest of their school career. They were sent a letter warning that the primary school pupils would have a ‘racial discrimination note’ put on their records if they did not go.

“Families were told to pay £5 per child for the Explore Islam trip next Wednesday to Staffordshire University, which would involve Year 4 and Year 6 children being shown Islamic artefacts. Mothers and fathers were warned: ‘Refusal to allow your child to attend will result in a Racial Discrimination note being attached to your child’s education record, which will remain on this file throughout their school career. ‘All absences on this day will be investigated for their credibility and will only be sanctioned with a GP sick note.’

“Yesterday parents at Littleton Green Community School in Huntington, Staffordshire, said the threat to the pupils aged between eight and 11 was ‘ludicrous’. Gillian Claridge, 55, said: ‘How dare they threaten to brand the children racist at such a young age? It’s going to make them feel like little criminals. The very nature of religion is all about choice. On this occasion they were not being given any choice at all. It was a draconian move and it’s left a lot of parents fuming’.”

So much for freedom of conscience and freedom of religion in the UK: “You will become a dhimmi or you will be punished!” Things are no better in Norway it seems. Check out this story:

“Can a chain with a cross be a reason for dismissal from one’s office? Apparently so, if you live in Norway and are a staff member of NRK, a state TV-and-radio broadcasting company, reports La Republica. Siv Kristin Saellmann—a popular TV news anchorwoman in Norway—was suspended from her job for appearing on the air with a Cross (1.4 centimetres long) on her necklace.

“Some viewers – mainly members of a local Muslim community – protested against this, claiming that ‘a necklace with a Cross insults Islam’ and ‘this symbol does not guarantee impartiality of the TV channel’. The journalist, one of the best known and the most popular on the Norwegian public television, was suspended and prohibited from hosting her programs, ‘lest she should be a source of discord and crimes’.”

Yep, that little cross is really offensive alright. And we gotta keep all the Muslims happy. I suppose the next thing they will be demanding is that all churches in Norway be shut down – they are pretty offensive too. And while they are at it, why don’t they insist that a new law be passed that makes Christianity illegal? All in the name of tolerance and multiculturalism of course.

Australia too is under the curse of creeping sharia. Here are two more recent examples. The first one comes from Sydney, not Saudi Arabia: “Exclusive: A child bride forced to illegally wed at 14 has won a disturbing custody fight that shines rare light on arranged unions in suburban Australia. Married off as a schoolgirl to a 21-year-old groom by her Muslim parents, the woman endured years of violence and abuse before walking out with their young daughter.

“The Federal Circuit Court heard the bride’s mum pushed her into the Islamic ceremony, telling the then-teen she’d get to attend theme parks and movies and eat lollies and ice-cream with her new husband. But once the girl moved in to the man’s outer-Sydney home she was locked inside, let out only to attend high school. The court heard evidence her husband used to burn her homework, and made her drop out of classes entirely after about a year.

“He also stopped her watching her favourite TV shows – Home and Away and Neighbours – instead screening a violent DVD showing soldiers taken hostage and blown up with grenades. In a decision published last week, Judge Joe Harman described the man as ‘a most heinous, capricious and revolting misogynist’.”

Finally, from Melbourne, this story: “A call to put the ‘Christ back in Christmas’ has been backed by readers in Greater Dandenong, keen to see religious icons included in the municipality’s street decorations. Last week Greater Dandenong Cr John Kelly told Leader he believed the street decorations weren’t reflective of the religious origins of Christmas. Cr Kelly blamed political correctness for creating an environment where people were ‘a little bit precious and sensitive’ about the true meaning of Christmas.

“David Owens, of Dandenong Ministers Fellowship agreed, saying the council bent over backwards to accommodate any religion other than Christianity. ‘Christian churches across Dandenong are helping Muslims to learn English and help them assimilate to the Australian way of life, while our governments and councils take away that way of life,’ Mr Owens said.

“Peter Hartin of Dandenong said the $85,000 council budget for street decorations could be better spent on manger scenes at major centres across Greater Dandenong, showing Christ’s birth. Carol Forsyth said even if people didn’t believe in Jesus Christ, they were reaping the benefits of his values of love and peace.”

Some of these items are of course rather insignificant in themselves. But taken together, we have a real advance of creeping sharia occurring throughout the West. And the incremental nature of all this may lull far too many Westerners into a false sense of security.

Instead of bemoaning our lack of freedoms when it is all too late, we had better start speaking up now for those things which we value: freedom, democracy, freedom of conscience and religious liberty. They are all disappearing fast under stealth jihad.
