Treating Prolifers as Terrorists

Imagine a government actually treating someone who cares about the most innocent and vulnerable members of society as a terrorist. Imagine refusing to allow such a person to even enter into your country to speak about the protection of unborn babies.

What sort of nation would act this savagely and bizarrely? North Korea? Cuba? No, it is in fact the Australian government which has just incomprehensibly revoked the visa of an American prolife speaker who was on board a plane coming here for a ten-day speaking tour.

newmanTroy Newman from Operation Rescue was en route to Australia in the US when his United Airlines flight was pulled right out from under his feet. He was told he could not complete his next leg of the flight from Denver to LA, and this because of an order from the Australian government!

One news item puts it this way:

Troy Newman is the head of anti-abortion organisation Operation Rescue and was due to speak in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Cairns over the next fortnight at events run by the group Right To Life Australia. But in a statement, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton confirmed Mr Newman’s visa had been cancelled. “Mr Newman can appeal for a revocation of this decision and no further comment will be made during this appeal period,” Mr Dutton said.
In a Facebook post, Mr Newman expressed his disgust at the decision. “The Australian Government has revoked my visa in mid-flight,” he said. Mr Newman said he “was pulled off a plane in Denver” and told he could not travel to Los Angeles and then on to Melbourne.
The “pro-life” campaigner also posted a video of an awkward exchange with airport staff in Colorado. “Please pray for me, I’m stuck in Denver airport like a man without a country,” he said. The Operation Rescue website said Mr Newman had “booked another ticket on a different airline and will travel on to Los Angeles tonight” in the hope he can still fly to Melbourne.
In a statement, Right To Life Australia spokeswoman Mary Collier said: “We are all very upset that this has happened and are working furiously to turn it around.” Several Australian politicians, including Labor backbencher Terri Butler, had called for Mr Newman to be banned from entering the country.

He ended up on another flight and has now been detained in Melbourne:

American anti-abortion activist Troy Newman has been detained at Melbourne Airport, after travelling to Australia even though his visa had been cancelled. Mr Newman, who has questioned why doctors who abort babies are not executed, had his visa cancelled by the Immigration Department yesterday and was stopped from getting on a flight in Denver.
But the ABC understands he flew on a United Airlines flight, and a spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the airline now faces a fine for carriage of a person who does not hold a valid visa.” Since Mr Newman-Mariotti does not hold a visa, he is unable to enter Australia and remains in the presence of ABF (Australian Border Force) officials at the Melbourne Airport pending his removal,” the spokeswoman said.
Lawyers representing Newman said they had withdrawn a Federal Court bid launched this morning to allow him to enter the country, meaning he will likely be deported. Mr Newman is the head of anti-abortion organisation Operation Rescue and was due to speak at events run by the group Right to Life Australia around Australia.
He said the revocation of his visa yesterday was “based on a pile of lies, including the idea that I promote violence”. “My 25-year history of peaceful, prayerful action speaks for itself,” he said. “Please pray that we can get past immigration so the truth can be told throughout Australia.”

Obviously a few pro-baby killers made a stink about Newman to the government, and that was enough to actually get him banned. That is simply mind-boggling. Such is the inordinate and obscene power of political correctness and a handful of noisy and small minority activist groups.

Now freedom and democracy are being held ransom by a handful of those who champion baby killing and want everyone to submit to their deadly agenda. And the Australian government actually goes along with this. And bear in mind that the new Turnbull government is largely responsible for this.

The Christian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison was only just recently replaced by Peter Dutton and this may have had a bit to do with it. This is just some of the first fruit of the reign of leftist non-Christian Malcolm Turnbull. I cannot imagine this happening under an Abbott government.

Because I have been travelling the past two days I have not been able to monitor all this properly. So this is a sketchy initial report. I will provide more and fuller updates in the near future. In the meantime, we can certainly complain to the authorities here.

Contacting the Minister is a first step. You can call his office on 02 6277 7860. And I am told that Peter Dutton’s email address is this: minister@border.gov.au.

This is all the stuff of the Brave New World scenarios: evil is celebrated and promoted by the state while good is howled down and penalised by the state. May God save Australia.

  1. I hope some good may come off this via the adverse publicity generated by the ban that may make intelligent people wonder why he would be considered such a ‘threat”.

Have signed this petition asking him to be allowed in. https://www.change.org/p/immigration-minister-hon-peter-dutton-mp-and-minister-for-women-senator-the-hon-michaelia-cash-protect-freedom-of-speech-and-allow-us-pro-life-speaker-troy-newman-into-australia-to-complete-his-australian-tour

  2. Hi, Bill. Thanks for the article and the link to the ministers email address. I have sent him a short note suggesting he let Mr Troy Newman in and let the Australian people hear him out and decide on the morality of murdering unborn babies or giving them a chance at life.

  3. Bill…my understanding was that he took Southwest Airlines out of Denver. Safe passage for yourself and hope other Pro-life Aussies are able to have this travesty overturned! I wondered how 500+ signatures were able to effect this visa cancellation without anyone knowing about it in advance? Very Fishy!

  4. This seems very uncharacteristic of Mr Dutton. What is going on? There must be more going on behind the scenes.
I just wrote Dutton and told him the Liberal Party has definitely lost my vote.

  5. Thank GOD I did not vote for the Liberal party so this is not staining my hands.

  6. Think that Mr Newman could be confidentially directed by Luke 10.
    particularly with verses 10 – 12.
“10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not make you welcome, go out into its streets and say,

11 “We wipe off the very dust of your town that clings to our feet, and leave it with you. Yet be sure of this: the kingdom of God is very near.”

12 I tell you, on the great Day it will be more bearable for Sodom than for that town.”

As for us Australians verse 12 is more than appropriate.
    Regards
    Terry.

  7. The cancellation of Mr Newman’s visa at the 11th hour, when he had already begun his journey to Australia, is disgraceful as it has an impact on Mr Newman personally as well as on the organisers of the RTL convention in Melbourne who are left without their keynote speaker at very short notice.

Still, I am puzzled about the allegations that Mr Newman has argued for the execution of those performing abortions if found guilty. These allegations are denied by Operation Rescue but are reported repeatedly by the media, yet it seems no journalist has investigated the allegations and provided chapter and verse for what Mr Newman actually wrote or said. I hope he has not been careless with his words in the past and so given the pro-choice cause a free kick.

  8. Since I live in the adjoining electorate to Peter Dutton in Brisbane, I phoned his Dickson electorate office to lodge my complaint. There I was told that if it was an immigration issue I had to phone him in Canberra at my expense as they could not divert my call.

I phoned Canberra at peak-hour rates and the woman listened to me but she could not give me the reasons why Troy Newman’s visa was cancelled, but did say she had received quite a few phone calls about this matter. Peter Dutton was not in the office and I could not speak to an adviser. Talk about fob offs!

So I phoned Teresa in the Brisbane Cherish Life office who said that Troy had found a way to Australia and we held in ‘detention’ while his appeal was heard in the high court. Teresa said that Troy had been granted a visa 2 months before he was due to fly to Aust. but he was told of the cancellation of the visa by airline officials when he boarded the flight, Denver to LA.

Since I learned that an Emily List MP, Terri Butler, Griffith electorate (I think that was Kevin Rudd’s seat) was one of the people who objected to Dutton’s office, considering Troy was a threat, I phoned her office and could not speak with her or an adviser. But the person who answered the phone sure knew why Terri was objecting to Troy’s ‘murderous’ claims. I challenged her but got nowhere. She wasn’t listening to the content of my message. I phoned the Griffith office after phoning Terri’s Canberra office and the phone rang out before it was answered by a parliament house person. She told me Terri was back in her electorate. That’s not what the person in the electorate told me.

Late Wed night I had sent email to a number of politicians, including my local MP in Petrie, Luke Howarth. I gave my phone and email details, but have not heard from one of them. Is silence golden?

  9. Hi Bill, is there any contact details for this poor brother, or his lawyers? The only reason I ask is, he is being over the top slandered on certain blogs and, I thought it was decent to inform him or his team.

  10. Spencer, I just called Peter Dutton’s Canberra office and was told that it wasn’t actually him who revoked the visa, but the department, obviously some senior public servant.
While I do not understand or agree with the visa being revoked, he did know before he left America and it might have been wiser to postpone the visit rather than claiming a “right” which for whatever reason was no longer extended by a sovereign nation. Humility I believe always works best for the cause of Christ. But as somebody else said, he got more publicity than these people who don’t want him to be here would have wanted him to have. Those things always back fire, praise the Lord.
    Many blessings
    Ursula Bennett

I call it legalised corruption. Its no accident either way
