The Ongoing War on Christian Education

This is my third article on this topic in as many days. Why? Simple: the more I write on this, the more I encounter radicals who are hellbent on destroying Christian schools. But there is another reason sadly: so many Christians for one reason or another are utterly clueless, uninformed, ignorant or incapable of seeing just what is at stake here.

The simple truth is, the very concept of Christian education is fully at risk. But let me backtrack a bit. Here is a sad but certain reality: Far too many Christians have been conceding far too much ground to homosexual activists for far too long now. They naively think that if we keep giving in, the other side will eventually be happy and go away. Um, they are dreaming.

The more the militants get, the more demands they will make. It never stops – it always escalates. That is how they operate. It really is time Christians started to wake up to the radical agenda of the activists. The militants have laid it all out for us in black and white, and all we need to do is start taking them at their word.

In other words, Christians need to snap out of their slumber and wake up to the real world. They need to start getting a bit savvy and discerning. There is nothing virtuous or Christlike about ignorance here. Indeed, our refusal to learn about what is going on is something we are all fully culpable for.

But back to the topic at hand. We will see in coming days what exactly the new Morrison legislation will entail in terms of forcing Christians schools to not be able to expel students on the basis of their sexuality. But I am convinced that nothing good can come of any of it, no matter how it is worded and what is included.

Indeed, things keep getting worse, with so many Liberals not only jumping on this anti-Christian bandwagon, but now demanding homosexual teachers also be included. As one recent media report noted:

The Liberal candidate in the crucial Wentworth byelection, Dave Sharma, says he “absolutely” opposes continuing to allow private schools to fire gay, lesbian or transgender teachers and has made this clear to Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Treasurer and deputy Liberal leader Josh Frydenberg has also put pressure on the Prime Minister over the issue, saying in a radio interview on Monday: “I don’t think these laws are right.” Days after flagging he will scrap exemptions that currently allow religious schools to expel gay students, Mr Morrison is now being urged to rip up laws that allow such schools to discriminate against teachers on the basis of sexuality.
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/dave-sharma-tells-scott-morrison-to-strip-schools-of-their-right-to-fire-gay-teachers-20181015-p509qb.html

All this is a fundamental attack on the right of Christians schools to be able to determine who comes in and who remains as students – and possibly teachers – and to enforce biblical morality and practice. But since Morrison seems hell-bent (word used advisedly) to introduce this legislation, and since so many clueless Christians are fully supporting it, let’s look at how it will play out.

To claim this will be a once off with no further moves in that direction is the stuff of fantasy. Even if it is the most bland and seemingly innocuous bill ever, it will simply push the door open further, and soon enough more radical politicians will kick the door down altogether.

Anyone who has followed the radical homosexual lobby for the past few decades knows exactly how this will pan out. It will NOT stop there. We all know how they have been winning over and over again. It is piecemeal, but it is relentless. And they keep getting their way as clueless politicians and Christians cede ever more ground.

So it does not matter a hill of beans if Morrison plans to take this no further. Is he Prime Minister for life? Even if he too is not stabbed in the back and replaced by another Liberal leader, soon enough Labor will be back in power, and we KNOW full well that they will not settle for this, but will expand it exponentially.

Don’t believe me? Then just read what the Labor leader has plainly said he intends to do:

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will move to remove laws that allow religious schools to sack a teacher or staff member on the basis of their sexuality, gender identity, or relationship status. The major parties last week agreed to amend legislation that allowed for the discrimination of LGBT students, but the Liberal Party has stopped short on confirming if the protection would also be granted to teachers. Mr Shorten says Labor believes the laws are no longer appropriate.

There you go folks. All these Christians foolishly supporting Morrison, saying it is no big deal, and will only apply to students – which is bad enough actually – have no clue as to how this WILL proceed. Labor and the Greens, the media, half of our spineless Liberals, and plenty of compromised Christians will all insist that yes, this MUST apply to staff and teachers as well.

If we are not aware of the slippery slope in action by now, then we will never get it. This has been going on for years. One compromise after another. One act of capitulation after another. One concession after another. On and on it goes – and it never ends.

The endgame is the complete neutralisation of all Christian schools and all Christian education, along with the complete neutralisation of all Christian churches. Things are all going nicely according to plan. What the activists told us they intended to do decades ago is all panning out.

And note that Morrison and Shorten are both on the same page: both are using the weasel word “sexuality” as a catch all. Morrison said no school can dump any student because of sexuality, and all that Shorten has done is spell this out in clear detail: “on the basis of their sexuality, gender identity, or relationship status”. Well, that pretty much covers the lot of it.

Thus any staff or student who is into homosexuality, adultery, cross-dressing, fetishes, pornography, fornication, polyamory, S&M, and a million other sexual sins, will ALL be allowed to stay, and Christian schools will NOT be allowed to do anything about it.

Compromised and carnal Christian schools will of course have no problem with this at all. It will be business as usual. But faithful and true biblical schools firmly committed to God and his word will face the wrath of the state, and most likely be prosecuted and eventually shut down. That is the endgame here folks.

That is what is up for grabs here. Yet we have Christian politicians and Christian leaders all singing from the same song sheet; this will be OK, this will not impact us, we will be able to fully carry on as normal. Yeah right. Clueless wonders. The blind leading the blind.

No wonder the other side keeps winning. With such morally, mentally and spiritually blind, deaf and dumb folks on our side, we really are goners. But let me conclude with two more quotes from a book I referred to in the first article in this series. Peter Kurti in The Tyranny of Tolerance notes how the ever-escalating set of demands of the left always harms freedom:

As rights asserted by identity warriors ratchet to the left, the shared social and cultural norms informing the institutions of democracy are gradually weakened because they become detached from their cultural and historical roots. This goes to the paradox lying at the heart of identity politics and its preoccupation with ideas such as anti-discrimination. Individuals need to be members of a class or group in order to enjoy their newly realised status of “victims”; and the benefits accruing to their new identity status are not to be lightly discarded.

Milton Friedman famously warned that “the society that puts equality before freedom will end up with neither; the society that puts freedom before equality will end up with a great measure of both.” But identity politics prioritises equality over freedom and, in so doing, locks people into specific categories at the expense of individual liberty – all in the pursuit of some ideal of democratic egalitarianism. The politics of identity has become the artillery ranged against the walls of liberal democracy.

And he also reminds us that these various anti-discrimination laws have the effect of forcing religion out of the public square, rendering it just a private, inner experience with no outward, social manifestation. He writes:

Religious belief is not something that can be confined to the realm of the mind as though it were a kind of mental hobby or recreation. Belief and practice are inseparable; freedom to believe must surely be accompanied by the freedom to speak. Those whose ways of life are guided by the search for ultimate meaning and a solemn obligation to do so dutifully are often likely to clash with the values of the secular state.

It is not difficult to see that if this dutiful living is met with the coercive force of the state, not only the right to freedom of religion but also the broader rights of freedom of association and freedom of expression are bound to be put at risk.

Of course, and that is exactly what we see being played out now concerning Christian schools. Given what is at stake here, every Christian in the nation should be outraged about this and making a very loud stink. Yet the rather pathetic reality is this:
-95% of Christians don’t even know about this.
Of the rest:
-95% don’t give a rip, or actually think it is great: “Jesus excludes no one; Christians are too bigoted; it is good to have homosexuals in our schools,” etc.

Lord help us.

  1. May well we say ‘God help us’ but God has given us dominion over all things which in essence spells responsibility.
    We are responsible for our actions and if we do not adhere to God’s edicts, he warns that we will be on our own (turn his face from us).
    We insult God when we shy from being called homophobe for God is a homophobe and gives reasons for it;
    We insult God when we accept divorce for ‘what God has joined together let no human hand put asunder’;
    We insult God when we murder his children albeit unborn under the guise of a woman’s rights;
    We insult God when we accept the terminology of ex husband or ex wife – again what God has joined together and we celebrate divorce with a remarriage (so called but in essence it is just a celebration of divorce and or the death of a family unit).
    I have no doubt that God is busy protecting certain elements of his creation from the inevitable disaster that we are about to experience – as I understand it, it will come by way of plague borne from sexual diseases such as HIV. This will set the stage for the great cleansing that mankind has experienced on multiple occasions but has learned little to nothing and the masses will wake up only a little too late.

  2. I feel very uncomfortable knowing how these things are being promoted regarding schools. The fundamental role of a school is to educate and empower children in preparation for adulthood. Sexuality, gender, politics, etc don’t have any place in the classroom. As a retired teacher, I am more concerned about students reaching their potential academically! I have also had many primary, and secondary, students tell me that they would prefer not to attend sex ed lessons, with a lot of them feeling acute embarrassment. Good teacher’s will keep their private lives out of the classroom.

  3. Hi

    I would like to give encouragement in these perilous times and the worsening times ahead

    2 Timothy 2:19 New King James Version (NKJV)

    19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

    Revelation 2

    7Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

    17Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.

    Revelation 21

    1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

    8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

  4. Exactly correct. What on Earth does “discrimination based on sexuality” mean? Presumably they intend to make laws whereby students can do whatever they please. The fact is most private schools are extremely reticent to turn away students. They are, after all, paying customers but at what point does perverse behavior stop being about “sexuality” and be actionable and why is anyone in a school expressing any sort of sexuality anyway. How is it that people cannot see the obvious hedonism and social decay being expressed here? The evidence is plain from history that these sorts of things are a prelude to social collapse. We did not get to where we are by encouraging children to express their “sexuality” at school. The lack of any sort of reasonableness here is staggering.

    The Apostle Peter said it well:-

    2Pe 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds driven with a tempest, for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever.
    2Pe 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error;
    2Pe 2:19 promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.
    (MKJV)

    I have said all along that the invented “homosexual rights” are in direct opposition to real human rights. They proved to be so in history and they are proving to be so again. It is not for no reason that God emphasizes the importance of respect for the biological family, it is in reality the basis for all human rights, but people appear intent on learning things the hard way. How can anyone remotely reasonable just stand aside and watch moral decay imposed on their children?

  5. Hi Bill,

    Thank you for this, I trust you enjoyed the March on Saturday I did, pushing the rainbow pram…hahaha! Just hung up from a call with a church leader who repeated the fact that “we live in a very different world today” der…this doesn’t mean that we have to role over and take what’s being done to us lying down does it? God’s Word does say that when the law requires that which is contrary to the Word of God and the Law of God, the laws of the land need not be obeyed, do they!? This world is in decay…we can recycle to our hearts content but these efforts our futile as we are not here to save the planet but make disciples of Jesus in order for others to know our Lord and Saviour God in heaven. So please tell us why do-good Christians particularly in churches rather alleviate poverty and preserve our current ways of living even though they are always changing rather than Evangelise the nations or live out the Great Commission? We are better off working toward our heavenly reward than anything here on earth, we seem to be babies who never grow up and we like nothing better than to shoot the messenger or throw babies out with bath water as the wise among us are resented for the wisdom which God has blessed them with, but no matter Mary desired a good thing which will not be taken from her plus the fools who mock from the sideline will not enter the Kingdom of Jesus. May God continue to bless you brother ox Shalom

  6. I am dealing with a Catholic school now that has threatened to kick me out simply because I questioned a You tube video that opened up sexuality in the form a book explaining different types of families eg: two mums two dads! not one parent knew or had consented to it, still to this day I have not been told who authorized it. I also found out the author wrote another book called Its Perfectly Normal where it says that masturbation is normal!! and it had explicit drawings of children in a very sexualized manner. An absolute disgrace!! How can a Catholic primary school not do a background check on the author? What happened to protecting children? Keep up the great work Bill!

  7. Good article. Question is, what do we do in response? We need practical counters to the problem. Shrewd yet innocent. Here is one suggestion. Teachers are hired on one or two year contracts. Before a teacher is accepted, the parents of the school have to ratify the hiring with a vote requiring 65% majority to pass. At the end of the contract period, the teacher again has to be voted on. News will get around if the teacher is not compliant with the schools faith statement and so long as the majority of the schools parents vote do not vote for the teacher, they will not remain in the school. The school has not discriminated against the teacher – they have followed the parents vote. The parents well the vote is a secret ballot of confidence. How do you prove what was voted and why? Thoughts?

  8. There is a total lack of leadership against this onslaught Bill. No matter how strongly individuals feel against this invasion we will not make an impact on politicians. What we need is a united front against this evil led by the churches. But where is that leadership?
