The Piddington David Versus the Government Goliath

People power challenges the uncaring woke Statists:

Now and then David wins. Now and then a small group of determined citizens take on the all-powerful State and get some small victories along the way. A symbolic vote by Oxfordshire villagers to leave the UK if the government does not wake up and heed the voice of the people is just the first step in this case of brave resistance.

The British Labour government wants to bring some 1,256 strangers – male asylum seekers –into the tiny English village of Piddington which has just 350 residents. This is despite the overwhelming rejection of this horrible idea by the British citizens who live there. With the State refusing to hear their pleas, the people there just voted to leave the UK! These are the numbers:

-285 residents (92% of the voters) voted to leave
-26 residents (8% of the voters) voted to stay

Citizens have been sick and tired of out-of-touch governments that refuse to listen to their deeply felt concerns. Women have even been taking self-defence classes in the village hall! It is just getting out of control. No wonder parties like Reform UK and Restore Britain are rising and rising in support and popularity.

This non-binding vote is just another instance of ordinary citizens saying they are fed up with governments that do not give a rip about their concerns. The government is doing nothing about all the illegals flooding the country. The people are rightly upset that these migrants so often get all sorts of perks and freebies (housing, services, and so on) while hard-working Brits have to support all this with their taxes.

And of course it has not just been Labour, but the Tories – at least up to just recently – that have done little or nothing about the flood of migrants, whether legal and illegal. This why so many are calling out the uni-party, and why folks like Farage and Lowe are gaining so much traction.

PIDDINGTON HAS VOTED FOR INDEPENDENCE. 285 YES. 27 NO. But here’s the extraordinary contradiction. Some of the women protesting the asylum centre say they’re not against the asylum seekers…they just want them housed somewhere else. Somewhere else? Where? Another village? Another town? Another group of women’s doorstep? A working class neighbourhood? If 1,256 single men is unacceptable for Piddington, why should another community simply inherit the problem? “Not here” is not a national policy. If it’s not acceptable for Piddington, it’s not acceptable anywhere, surely.

What is about to happen in Piddington is utter madness. How on earth has it come to this? But there’s an uncomfortable question here: this constituency voted for the policies that have brought us to this point. There is a saying ‘Be careful what you wish for! Or in this case …what you vote for! Now local women are speaking out and they have every right to. But where was this outrage when women in working-class communities elsewhere were raising the same fears? Women’s safety cannot suddenly matter more because the consequences have arrived in a picturesque village. If it is wrong in Piddington, it is wrong everywhere.

Perhaps we should heed the lessons of history

As many of these comments make clear, we have a bad case of NIMBY going on here – Not In My Back Yard. These remarks certainly bring to mind a very illustrative – and rather hilarious – episode from the US concerning illegals and lefties. As I said in a piece written exactly four years ago today:

Something very interesting – and all rather humorous – is happening right now in the US concerning illegals. Those states that are most impacted by these open border policies are starting to fight back. The conservative Republican governors of Texas (Greg Abbott) and Florida (Ron DeSantis) are forcing the left to put up or shut up.

 

They are moving these illegals to their own territory, most notably the home of the uber-left, Martha’s Vineyard in leftist Massachusetts. Ya gotta laugh. All of a sudden all these bleeding hearts are not talking so much about compassion and care. They are quite upset in fact. ‘Hey, when I said we should take in all these illegals, I did not mean in MY house!’

 

Martha’s Vineyard is of course known as the summer destination of the rich and powerful. Plenty of lefty big wigs have homes there – folks like Barack Obama and John Kerry. And other leftist hot spots like New York and Washington DC are also having busloads and planeloads of migrants being shipped there, much to the great concern of the Democrat residents.

So it seems the residents of Piddington may have woken from their political stupor and realised the idiocy of their leftist views. Reality always has a way of cutting through brainless ideology and cheap sloganeering.
