Antics of the Angry God-Hating Atheists

Yeah, yeah, I know these guys claim there is no God. Yet they spend their entire lives complaining about and hating on this God they say does not exist. They are absolutely obsessed with and phobic about someone they insist is not there. Talk about the height of irrationality.

And they want us to be ‘reasonable’ like they are? Sorry, but I don’t have enough faith – or foolishness – to be an atheist. These guys hate God, and it shows in all they say and do. The old saying, ‘you always hurt the one you love’ could be redone here this way: ‘you always demonise the one you hate’.

Except they don’t believe in demons either. Yet they spend all their time and energy bashing this God they think is not there. Makes perfect sense to me. The simple truth is, most atheists do not have solid intellectual reasons to disbelieve in God. The intellectual case for God is exceedingly strong.

What we have instead is personal, experiential, moral and emotional objections to God. Having gone back and forth with so many of these misotheists over the years, it is clear that they are often simply reacting to earlier experiences, either of parents, churches, church leaders, and so on.

They may have had a lousy experience when young, and now they are lashing out in anger and bitterness and hurt. I find this all the time. And of course another truth is, when you talk to these guys and ask them about the God they hate so much and claim is nonexistent, it is easy enough to say in reply: “Yeah, I don’t believe in a God like that either”.

Their conception of God is usually so far removed from the one true God, that of course they are ticked off with such a God. I would be too. They have erected a straw man – or in this case, a straw God – and they have a jolly good time in knocking it down.

It is all fun and games, but games are meant to be left to childhood. Adults should really move on. So they hate a God that indeed does not exist, and they have tonnes of pent-up anger and hurt from things that happened in their past. We see this being played out all the time.

Romans 1:18-32 lays out the case perfectly for all this. Let me offer the first six verses of this important part of Scripture:

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Consider the latest episode of God-hating atheists showing their ‘rationality’ and ‘sensibleness’. A group of really radical feminists known as Femen are at it again. I have written about them before. See here for example: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2014/01/09/more-scenes-from-the-baby-killing-wars/

They are a delightful bunch. And their latest episode proves that they sure do hate God. It does not get much worse than this. This is how one report describes their misotheistic antics:

The topless protest group Femen have taken their brash form of activism to shockingly new heights (or depths), simulating anal sex with crucifixes outside the Vatican to protest the Pope’s alleged meddling in politics. The three women pulled off their stunt on St. Peter’s Square, the enormous plaza located right in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.
Two of them had “Keep it Inside” scrawled across their backs, an apparent reference to their anger that the Pope’s activities extend beyond the tiny papal enclave in Rome. The trio, decked out in nothing but black ankle boots, leather miniskirts, and flower garlands in their hair, dropped to all fours and began simulating a lewd act with the crucifixes.
Police immediately swarmed on the women as bemused tourists snapped photographs. Covering the women’s bared breasts with coats, the cops dragged them off, with one of the women crying: “The pope is not a politician, god is not a magician.”
According to the Local’s Italian language edition, the protest was organized to protest the Pope’s planned visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg later this month. The protesters say the visit is an attack on Europe’s secular principles. It remains unclear if any of the women will face criminal charges.

Classy. There is only one way to explain all this: these folks have a demonic hatred of God. Again, it may well be that they had negative or nasty experiences while young. And if and when real abuse and mistreatment of people took place at the hands of the church, we can only offer our apologies, and cry with them that such things ever happened.

But I of course am not privy to their personal stories. It would be interesting to find out. But what we do know is their anger and bitterness against God is driving them to take these utterly barbaric and contemptible actions. And of course the Christian church is always a safe target.

In this regard at least they are not holding to gross double standards, as most atheists do. These guys are equal opportunity offenders it seems. They are willing to take on Islam as well, as this report states:

A German religious forum took an unexpected turn yesterday when three topless protesters had to be dragged out of the building. The Berlin Islam Week event, held in one of the city’s town halls, was stopped in its tracks by members of extreme protest group Femen, who charged into the hall with slogans attacking ‘religious oppression’ and Sharia law daubed on their bodies. Photographs from the moment the women were dragged out by policemen show a bemused-looking woman filming the event on her phone as unimpressed guests look on.

Now at least here they were right to point out “religious oppression”. You get that by the truckload-ful in Islam. And the oppression of women tops the list. So at least Femen was here picking on a much more suitable target. It is a pity most Western feminists are so completely oblivious to the inherently misogynist nature of Islam.

But back to the Vatican protest. It certainly was one of the more nasty pieces of work you will ever encounter, and if you are game, the first link below has a video clip of their protest. These are some very messed-up young women.

But of course they are women made in the image of God, and people for whom Jesus hung on a cross – the very cross these gals so blasphemously used in such a deviant fashion. So we have to pray for the Femen militants, and for all atheists.

Their real objection to God, as I mentioned, is not really intellectual but moral. They have either been hurt deeply in the past, and are lashing out, or they are too intent on living their selfish and self-centred lives of immorality and rebellion.

We need to keep interceding for such folks. We are all sinners who rightly deserve the wrath of God. By his grace alone, many of us have found the one true God and his forgiveness, and been made new creations in Christ. Pray that these embittered and enraged atheists will do the same.
