Massacring Scripture for Fake Marriage

There are a few things in life that seem to be never-ending. Taxes would be one, but another one is the ability of clueless wonders or deceptive dupes to totally mangle, twist and distort the Word of God to promote radical, godless agendas.

The number of incredibly appalling cases of theological revisionism out there is mind-boggling. We have cases every day of those who trash the Bible as they run with fully unbiblical agendas. The good news is that one day all these Bible-benders and truth-deniers will have to meet their maker and give an account for all this.

These Scripture-twisters are of course a dime-a-dozen, and not a day goes by when we do not see another mind-boggling example of this. Consider the latest case as reported in a Queensland newspaper. A political leader who should know better has managed to absolutely mutilate the Bible as he pushes fake marriage.

The story opens:

Queensland Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls has voted in favour of same-sex marriage but said it was a difficult decision. The LNP leader told reporters in Brisbane on Sunday he had filled out his postal survey earlier that morning, after a lot of “interesting” discussions with his wife and three teenage children.
“This has been really hard for me,” he said. “I come from a traditional marriage, a traditional background.” Mr Nicholls said ultimately it was St Paul’s letter to The Corinthians, in the bible, which swayed him in favour of marriage equality.
“He says faith, hope, love and the greatest of these is love,” he said. “And on that basis I voted yes.”

Good grief! What in the world does faith, hope and love – especially as biblically defined – have to do with destroying marriage and promoting the radical cause of the cultural Marxists? Has this guy even read this chapter, let alone any other parts of the Bible? It sure does not seem so.

Let me do a little bit of basic Bible study here. The phrase he is totally twisting and abusing for his own political ends of course comes from 1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” It is the final verse in what is known as the “love chapter”.

As always, context is king, and anyone who knows even a little bit about 1 Corinthians will understand that chapter 13 is strategically placed between chapters 12 and 14. The entire epistle involves Paul dealing with divisive and carnal Christians at Corinth.

And chapters 12-14 deal especially with what had become a contentious matter of spiritual gifts. So it is in that broader context that Paul raises the importance of Christian love as he tries to navigate his way through the host of problems besetting the Corinthian church.

He most certainly was not offering any sort of saccharine-sweet, touchy-feely pop psychology pep talk about “all you need is love” as the Beatles wanted us to believe. He was not pushing a patently unbiblical notion of love as mere feeling or emotions, and certainly not lusts.

Biblical love is always a much firmer thing than what the worldlings and the sham Christians make it out to be. It is hard-headed and realistic. It confronts sin head-on, and never promotes, affirms or seeks to make excuses for any sort of evil.

Had Nicholls read the whole chapter he would of course have come across verse 6. It could not be more clear in what it affirms: “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” Um, earth calling Mr Nicholls, the Bible everywhere presents homosexuality only in a negative light.

It is ALWAYS seen as evil and sinful, and thus never something any believer can in any way delight in or promote. And of course the Bible from Genesis to Revelation makes it quite clear what God’s intention for human sexuality is all about, and it sure does not entail homosexual marriage.

As I have mentioned so many times already, the biblical understanding of love is quite straightforward. Genuine love is always about willing the highest good of the beloved. It is about seeking the best for the other person. That includes setting people free from their sinful and dangerous lifestyles.

A person in the bondage of homosexuality is NOT being loved when we simply affirm the sin and seek to further legitimise it. Nor are we showing biblical love when we push something like fake marriage which simply shows we are shaking our fist at the Creator, and telling him he is wrong about marriage and that he needs to get with the times.

Please tell me how that equates to biblical love. What it equates to is sinful rebellion against Almighty God. Telling God he is wrong and telling people to engage in blatant sinful activities has absolutely nothing to do with biblical love. It has everything to do with diabolical evil and blatant disobedience.

And remember that verse 6 tells us that love “rejoices with the truth”. The truth of God must always stand against the lies of men. God’s truth about sexuality, marriage and family stand completely against the radical agenda of the homosexual activists.

We either run with God and his truth, or we side with sinful man in open, defiant rebellion against God. This of course has always been the case. Thus all the more reason to bemoan clueless wonders – or deceptive manipulators – like Nicholls on this issue.

If he wants to push for faux marriage, even though he is supposed to be leading a conservative party, that is up to him. But how dare he drag into this debate the Holy Scriptures, and twist and abuse the Word of God to push an ungodly and evil agenda. Shame on you Mr Nicholls.

Let me finish with some wise words about truth and love penned by Harry Blamires way back in 1957 in his book A God Who Acts:

A curse of contemporary Christendom has been the replacement of traditional theology by a new system which we may call Twentieth-century Sentimental Theology. Sentimental theology has invented a God: it insists that he is a God of love, and implies that it is therefore his eternal concern that a thumping good time should be had by all….
So runs the Sentimental Creed. Because this God loves all men equally, therefore we must live in agreement with all men, smiling indulgently upon every vanity and betrayal. Because this God is a God of Love, we must never differentiate between good and evil, for judgment partakes of uncharity and presumption. Because this God is a God of mercy, we must pretend that sins have not been committed, that evils under our own noses do not exist.
