The amount of frenzied anti-Christian bigotry is increasing by the day, with PC zealots working overtime to harass and persecute Christians any way they can. And all this is aided and abetted by the state which is becoming increasingly secular, anti-Christian, and irrational.
Examples are around by the truck-full. Every day new outrageous cases come to light. And all this is taking place in what is supposed to be the free and democratic West. The West, once the bastion of Christian belief and morality, is now becoming the fortress of ruthless anti-Christian hatred.
Consider the latest case of mind-numbing stupidity and anti-Christian zeal. A woman who advertised in a church for a Christian roommate now has to face a court case for her outrageous behaviour. Yep, can you think of anything more horrific and dastardly than that? A Christian actually daring to ask for a Christian roommate!!
This is how the media has covered the story: “A civil rights complaint has been filed against a woman in Grand Rapids, Mich., who posted an advertisement at her church last July seeking a Christian roommate. The ad ‘expresses an illegal preference for a Christian roommate, thus excluding people of other faiths,’ according to the complaint filed by the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan.
“‘It’s a violation to make, print or publish a discriminatory statement,’ Executive Director Nancy Haynes told Fox News. ‘There are no exemptions to that.’ Haynes said the unnamed 31-year-old woman’s case was turned over to the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Depending on the outcome of the case, she said, the woman could face several hundreds of dollars in fines and ‘fair housing training so it doesn’t happen again’.”
There you have it folks. In ‘Christian’ America you will now be fined if you simply state your preference for a Christian roommate. Not only that, but you will have to go through state-sponsored re-education camps to wash such horrific and nasty ideas out of your miserable brain.
Isn’t it great that the state is so concerned about all this that it will take such steps to ensure that no Christian dares again to commit such a despicable crime? Of course the state is being a bit slack here. It is only doing half its job. Why not go all the way?
What the state should be doing is now making it illegal for Christians to be allowed to have Christian roommates. To really ensure a diverse and tolerant culture, the state should now decree that all Christians will have to be paired up with atheist roommates, or with Muslim roommates.
After all, the state must weed out every ugly hint of discrimination, so we must teach those stupid Christians a lesson. Indeed, why stop there? Why not force all Christian churches to have Hindu pastors, or secular humanist youth leaders, or witches for counsellors?
Indeed, why doesn’t the government stop beating around the bush? Why doesn’t it get really serious about the Christian problem? Perhaps every believer should be branded with a cross on their foreheads. Their businesses could be shut down. Their Bibles could be confiscated and burnt in public squares.
Indeed, maybe just put them in boxcars and haul them off to concentration camps. Maybe just line them up and shoot them all. Of course we have witnessed this sort of thing happen before. History is replete with such examples of state-sponsored persecution.
It all starts in small, incremental steps. A little bit of bigotry here, a tiny bit of repression there. Soon the entire work of hard-core persecution was well underway. By then of course it was too late to do anything about it. The small steps inevitably lead to bigger steps, until the momentum of the whole program is too great to stop.
When little freedoms are undermined or whittled away today, it will be that much easier to do the same to bigger freedoms tomorrow. And when Christian freedoms are attacked in small ways today, they will be even more ferociously assailed tomorrow.
And the sad thing is, when the repression and bigotry is in the early stages, very few will speak up and make a stink about things. But when the persecution is really moving along nicely, then there will be little room to move, and little scope for protest.
We need to learn the lessons of history here. If we do not speak out loud and clear in the early days, we can kiss the future goodbye. Only by being alert and vigilant now can we protect our freedoms. Freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, and freedom of speech are all very great goods which we dare not take lightly.
To lose them is to lose it all. And we are well on the way to losing it all. But the scariest thing about all this is that while so much anti-Christian bigotry is taking place, so few Christians seem to know about it or care about it. We are allowing the assault on the church to take place by saying and doing nothing.
We have had voices from the past warning us about this very thing. Let me cite one such voice. We dare not ignore what he had to say. The costs are far too great.
“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.
