Turning Virtues Into Vices: The New Inquisitors

Such is the nature of the radical secularists that they are managing to turn previous virtues into today’s vices. And in the process they have unleashed a new Inquisition. In a perfect illustration of the prophet Isaiah’s warning, the new social engineers are turning our world upside down.

This is what Yahweh said through Isaiah two and a half millennia ago: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (5:20 ). This describes to a T what we are experiencing in the West today.

I was going to say “post-Christian West”, but a more accurate term would be “anti-Christian West”. All over the Western world there is a war going on against the very values and ideals which made the West great in the first place. Examples of this are easy to come by.

Consider how a group of ornery atheists in the US is suing Texas governor Rick Perry for daring to do an incredibly outrageous thing: hold a prayer meeting. Yikes, you would have thought the governor just called for the legalisation of child sex. Actually these angry atheists would clearly have preferred him to do something like that.

This is what Perry stated, “Given the trials that beset our nation and world, from the global economic downturn to natural disasters, the lingering danger of terrorism and continued debasement of our culture, I believe it is time to convene the leaders from each of our United States in a day of prayer and fasting, like that described in the book of Joel. I urge all Americans of faith to pray on that day for the healing of our country, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of enduring values as our guiding force.”

One of the more bizarre things about this is that the misotheist group behind this claims to have 700 members in Texas. Given that truth tends to mean so little to such folks, it is probably more likely that they have 70 members. But even if we accept their numbers, just what does this figure represent?

There are nearly 26 million people in Texas. So this group comprises just 0.0027 per cent of the state’s entire population. Yet this minuscule rabble wants to hold the entire state hostage to its anti-Christian bigotry. Given that the majority of Texans are Christians, this is even more bizarre.

And also bizarre is how they are claiming that such a prayer meeting is unconstitutional. The American Founding Fathers had no problem whatsoever with this kind of activity. Indeed, such times of prayer and fasting were held on a regular basis.

Consider what John Adams, Second President of the United States, said in a 1798 National Declaration: “As the safety and prosperity of nations ultimately and essentially depend on the protection and blessing of Almighty God; and the national acknowledgment of this truth is not only an indispensable duty which the people owe to Him, but a duty whose natural influence is favorable to the promotion of that morality and piety, without which social happiness cannot exist, nor the blessings of a free government be enjoyed;… I have therefore thought it fit to recommend, that Wednesday, the 9th day of May next be observed throughout the United States, as a day of Solemn Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer; That the citizens of these states, abstaining on that day from their customary worldly occupations, offer their devout addresses to the Father of Mercies, agreeably to those forms or methods which they have severally adopted as the most suitable and becoming.”

Or consider this 1812 National Declaration proclaimed by James Madison, Fourth President of the United States: “Whereas the Congress of the United States, by a joint resolution of the two Houses, have signified a request, that a day may be recommended, to be observed by the People of the United States, with religious solemnity, as a day of public Humiliation, and Prayer; and whereas such a recommendation will enable the several religious denominations and societies so disposed, to offer, at one and the same time, their common vows and adorations to Almighty God…”

As one commentator notes, “James Madison, the author of the First Amendment (and the ‘separation of church and state’ establishment clause that secularists like to cite as reason to boot God from government), called for FOUR national days of prayer. And one would think the author of the First Amendment knew what he meant!”

Quite so. But these radical secularists want to turn America inside out. What has made America great (its religious people, humbling themselves under their Creator, seeking his blessing) is now seen as a curse by these anti-Christian bigots.

Another example of seeking to turn the world inside out has to do with the various attempts at stamping out any and all forms of censorship. I refer here to several recent US documentaries aired on our ABC 2 over the last few months. We of course expect our secular left ABC to run with such programs.

These shows had to do with how laws against obscenity and so on were gradually done away with in the US. Laws banning filthy talk and behaviour, obscene language, and pornographic images have all been whittled away by the secular left over the past four or five decades.

Of course these documentaries made the pro-porn crowd out to be the heroes, while those who sought to maintain standards of decency were vilified, mocked and made to look like the source of pure evil in society. All the radicals, civil libertarians, anarchists, rebels, and sleaze merchants were given a free run, whether Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Hugh Hefner, or Larry Flynt.

Anyone opposed to their agenda was treated like a nutter and a hangover from the Middle Ages. Of course plenty of gratuitous nudity, profanity and perversion was featured in these shows as well. The programs sought to argue that the end of all censorship was a sign of liberation and freedom.

But the very opposite has been the case, with millions of people becoming sex addicts, marriages busting up, STD rates skyrocketing, and society fragmenting. The sexual revolution has been an unmitigated disaster, as I and others have documented before.

Yet the ABC runs with programs like these on a regular basis, betraying yet again their leftist and secularist biases. And of course now things are coming full circle. With hate crime laws, equal opportunity laws, vilification laws, and discrimination laws, we are returning to a new age of censorship, repression and intolerance.

I have documented countless examples of how freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience are all under threat. Indeed, it is exactly because of today’s secular left that a whole new Inquisition has been set up, where the censorship of any contrary views (be it on same-sex marriage or climate change) is ruthlessly enforced.

There is a new witch hunt under way today, and it is being conducted by those who cry the most about tolerance, acceptance, and the like. The secular left and all its cronies in the MSM have unleashed a new Reign of Terror on all those who dare to disagree with their radical agendas.

So those shouting the loudest for an end to censorship and for a new freedom have in fact become those who are most active in censorship today and the restriction of freedom (for those who take a different view than them). The liberators have become the new totalitarians. Our anarchist leftists have become the new authoritarian oppressors.

And we all suffer as a result.
