Wolves Endorsing Wolves

Like attracts like – for good or ill. Biblical Christians love to associate with others who love God and his Word supremely. And apostates are happy to hang around with other apostates. True prophets of God congregate with others of the same stripe, while false prophets attract their own.

Thus it comes as no surprise that idolatrous, rebellious and apostate “churches” and “Christian leaders” from one place will endorse and promote rogue believers and renegade leaders from other places. We have a clear example of this taking place, with a notorious apostate from the US coming soon to Australia to spew his poison in “churches” which have long ago turned their backs on truth, on Scripture, and on holiness.

They have so nicely embodied the truth of Romans 1:14-25: “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.”

I refer to the American Episcopalian reprobate, Gene Robinson who will be here May 22 – June 2. The 65-year-old recently retired as bishop in the Episcopalian church. The homosexual activist is noted for repudiating just about everything: his wedding vows, when he dumped his wife and two daughters and took up with his boyfriend lover; his commitment to the Word of God; and his responsibility as a leader to the flock of God.

Al Mohler wrote of him just after he was made bishop in 2003. He said that this consecration “will long be remembered in the history of the church as a craven act of moral rebellion and the rejection of Holy Scripture. November 2, 2003 is a day that will live in biblical infamy.”

Of his remarks at the event, Mohler remarks, “Here we have a classic expression of an individual asserting his own autonomy over biblical authority. Gene Robinson does not really care what the Bible has to say about his homosexuality. Indeed, he has conceded that the Bible condemns homosexual activity, but also asserts that the Bible should not have the last word in the matter.”

He concluded his article this way, “The supreme tragedy in the case of Bishop Gene Robinson, is that the confusion is not found in the world, but within what claims to be the Church. Robinson may now claim his office as the Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire, but his real claim to fame will be as the theologian-in-residence of the Church of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

Sadly this ungodly and immoral church has only grown since then, and now we have this reprobate being flaunted and drooled over by like-minded apostates here in Australia. Here is how the sponsoring group in Melbourne boasts of itself:

“The Centre for Faith Life and Learning (CFFL) is proud to be the lead Melbourne organisation in bringing Bishop Gene Robinson to Australia. The CFLL was established in 2007 by the Rev Dr Chris Page, as a joint venture between East Doncaster Baptist and Manningham Uniting Church. The current director is Rev Andrew Boyle.

“The Centre aims to provide leadership in exploring progressive Christian thought and practice. It offers an open, non-dogmatic, inclusive approach to Christian life and theology embodying the theme of Head, Heart and Hand. The Centre aims to incorporate historical and contemporary interpretations of the Bible that draws on the best of recent Biblical scholarship. It also hopes to have the courage to reconsider doctrine and beliefs that are unhelpful in the present day.”

You have all you need to know in those brief lines. “Progressive Christianity” is simply code-word for apostate and heretical deconstructionism. I have discussed these radicals elsewhere: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2011/01/23/progressive-christianity/

So of course it “offers an open, non-dogmatic, inclusive approach to Christian life and theology”. That means it is quite happy to embrace any and all heterodox and trendy nonsense which the world has to offer, all the while rejecting biblical Christianity lock, stock and barrel.

It certainly does seek to “reconsider doctrine and beliefs”. It reconsiders them right out of the biblical ball park. One simply has to look at some of the other activities it proudly has been involved in:

“-The Progressive Christian Network of Victoria: Open Christianity Series
-Forums on Buddhist meditation and Hindu thought and practice
-Heaven and Hell – A contemporary approach
-The Morality of Mortality – forum
-‘Coming Out’ – The Parents Journey”

So these renegades are tickled pink (pun not necessarily intended) to bring out this leader in false theology, idolatry, and sexual immorality. The homosexual press is also agog with all this, not surprisingly. As one homosexual paper said,

“Robinson will head to Sydney in May next year following his January retirement and in the lead up to the federal election where same-sex marriage is predicted to feature in the political debate. ‘I think it will be not too far in the future that we will look back on this the same way we look back on laws that prohibited people of different races from being married or how we look back at slavery,’ Robinson told US reporters.”

Oh puh-leeese, spare us this ridiculous, tired, and lame theological revisionism. That and the other furphies of the revisionists I carefully debunk in my book, Strained Relations. Let me just quote a very small portion of it here:

Apartheid and laws banning inter-racial marriage are about keeping races apart. Marriage is about bringing the sexes together. Heterosexual marriage has been around for millennia. Talk of same-sex marriage has been around for a few short decades. Marriage was thus not created to discriminate against anyone, as apartheid was.

Laws banning interracial marriages were unjust, and overturning them did not mean a redefinition of marriage but an affirmation of it. Men and women should be allowed to marry regardless of skin colour, as this does nothing to alter the one man, one woman aspect of marriage. Same-sex marriage however is completely different, and it is a redefinition of marriage.

As one commentator notes, “Same-sex marriage and interracial marriage have nothing in common. There is no difference between a black and a white human being because skin color is morally trivial. There is an enormous difference, however, between a man and a woman. Ethnicity has no bearing on marriage. Sex is fundamental to marriage.”

And yet this wolf in sheep’s clothing will be coming here to tell other wolves and their fleeced flocks these lies and deceptions. And these folks will lap it up. Well did Paul warn about those with itching ears: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:3).

Oh, in case you are not yet convinced about what a reprobate this guy is, Al Mohler also reminds us of the time he spoke at a Planned Parenthood meeting – you know, the world’s largest baby-killing organisation. He quotes Robinson:

“‘Planned Parenthood is an organization that I have always admired and respected. It does such extraordinarily fine work, and I’m very happy to be associated with it.’ And, Planned Parenthood is clearly happy to be associated with Bishop Robinson. Here we find true guilt by association.”

Yep, just as these trendy progressives in Australia are quite happy to be associated with this false leader. Unless they repent big time, they will all face the music soon enough, and I would not want to be there when that happens.
