Muslims, Morality and Multiculturalism

I have said it before and will say it again: multiculturalism can only work if there is a shared set of values and a common, cohesive social understanding. If guests to a host nation refuse to agree with the beliefs and ideals of a nation, then this is not multiculturalism but an invitation to chaos and discord.

Without genuine attempts at assimilation and integration there can be no successful multiculturalism. And sadly the record in the West of Islamic integration has not been very good. While some Muslims do their best to embrace our values and ideals, many sadly do not.

And that is where we are getting into all sorts of trouble. But there are far too many Westerners aiding and abetting all this. Far too many of our political leaders, elites and media commentators have taken the line that we are being “racist” and “Islamophobic” if we insist that Muslims coming here adhere to some of our core values and beliefs.

We have given them a free pass to bring their anti-democratic, theocratic, misogynist and archaic worldview without demanding that they make any concessions or even seek to fit in with Western culture. Thus our dhimmi elites are as much a part of the problem as are immigrants who refuse to fit in and adopt Western values.

Examples of this are never ending. Here are just some I have collected over recent years:

“Muslim taxi drivers refuse blind fares with ‘unclean’ guide dogs”

“Some Muslim taxi drivers [in Queensland] are refusing to carry blind and disabled passengers with guide dogs – because their religion tells them the animals are ‘unclean’.”

“A Sydney man has appeared in court accused of helping to whip a victim with a cable as part of a religious punishment for drinking. Police allege he was one of four men who broke into a unit at the weekend and restrained a 31-year-old man who was lashed 40 times with a cable.”

“Scared Muslim let off police shooting”

“A Muslim terror suspect who wounded a policeman in a gunfight escaped conviction on serious shooting charges after a judge found ‘anti-Muslim sentiment’ made him fear for his safety.”

“Muslim women not used to drinking walk free after attack on woman”

“A gang of Somalian women who repeatedly kicked a young woman [from Leicester] in the head walked free from court after a judge heard they were ‘not used to being drunk’ because they were Muslim.”

“Man charged after ‘marrying’ girl, 12”
February 7, 2014
“A man who was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl has told police that he married the child in a religious ceremony in NSW this year, police say.”

“Islamic teacher who sexually abused girl, 11, as he taught her the Koran spared jail because his wife doesn’t speak English”
March 18, 2014
“Preston Crown Court was told Maknojioa had been engaged by the children’s parents in 2012 to teach them about the Islamic faith up to three times a week at their home in Lancashire.”

“Muslims Do Not Want To Be Touched By UK’s Sniffer Dogs As They Are ‘Spiritually Unclean’”
September 30, 2014
Muslims consider dogs to be “spiritually unclean.” They want no dogs as part of airport security, even if it tends to limit the jobs of the guards, according to a British Transport Department report.

There are plenty more such examples that can be mentioned here. As can be seen, some of these involve Muslims assuming they can bring their anti-Western values and laws into the West, while others involve clueless Westerners allowing them to get away with this.

This is not how true multiculturalism works. This is how we destroy a society by allowing radically competing moral, social and even legal codes to coexist. That is a recipe for disaster. And consider the latest shocking case of this:

Muslim youth who have been charged with terrorism offences or targeted in recent counter-terrorism raids are merely teenagers being teenagers, a university lecturer has told an Islam conference.
Psychcentral NSW’s Hanan Dover said the young men, arrested in the counter-terrorism raids following the shooting death of NSW Police employee Curtis Cheng and previous raids across Sydney and Melbourne, were targeted because of their natural teenage way of “acting out” and that their normal “teenage speak” was being criminalised.
Ms Dover, who is an adjunct lecturer of religion at Western Sydney University and a community psychologist, yesterday defended the young men charged with terrorism on a discussion panel at the 2nd Australasian Conference on Islam Radicalisation and Islamophobia, claiming they had been treated unfairly.

Oh, so killing police, planting bombs, and decapitating folks – all in the name of Allah – is just normal teenage behaviour? Hmm, for some reason, when I was a normal teenager I did not engage in any of those activities. Nor have billions of other past or present teenagers the world over.

But it seems we must grant special exemptions to Muslim teens because terror and jihad are just normal activities for such youth. Um, newsflash Hanan Dover: you are part of the problem. Your moronic excuse-making for terrorism is exactly why we are in such a mess today.

Of course we expect Muslims to seek to justify Islamic terror – but puh-leese, spare us these mind-numbing justifications. They really do nothing for endearing ordinary Australians to your faith. They simply confirm what many already know: too many Muslims think they can come here and reject Australian values and beliefs and simply import their eighth-century ones instead.

Thankfully while this appalling example of Islamic doublespeak was reported in some newspapers today, Miranda Devine had a very good piece speaking about this whole problem. Entitled, “Your ‘morals as a Muslim’ don’t give you a free pass,” it is well worth quoting from. She provides some recent examples of this and then says:

To give in to small acts of defiance is to legitimise the political ideology of Islamism which ultimately seeks violently to impose a world wide caliphate under Sharia Law. A contemptuous attitude to our society’s rules and laws is the first step to radicalisation and must be understood, not just as a person being religious, but a person substituting a separate law and system of beliefs under Islam which is incompatible with our own.
It does not mean that the person is violent but just that he holds a literal interpretation of the Koran to justify a contempt for our “infidel” society. This is the fertile ground in which violent radicalism sprouts. The ideology of apartness and victimhood is at the heart of Islamic teachings, and explains why the Australian Grand Mufti’s language was so jarring in his statement issued after the latest Paris terrorist attacks.
Regardless of his expressions of solidarity with the victims of the “heinous” acts, effectively he justified those acts by listing five “causative factors”: “racism, Islamophobia, curtailing freedoms through securitisation, duplicitous foreign policies and military intervention”.
This same grievance-fuelled worldview is used to justify violence by Islamist radicals. No matter how Western leaders try to pretend otherwise by using euphemisms like “Daesh”, Islamic State’s blueprint is the Koran. This is what Coalition MPs Josh Frydneberg, Andrew Hastie, Andrew Nikolic, Michael Sukkar, Craig Kelly, George Christensen, and, before them, Cory Bernardi, are talking about.

Yes, I just wrote about some of these sensible leaders and their concerns about Islam: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2015/12/01/the-islamic-war-on-freedom-and-life/

But we will never solve any of these problems if we keep making excuses for Islamic values and actions which go against Western traditions and values, and think that we can allow for a two-tiered moral system to exist in Australia and the West.

The simple truth is this: Islamic sharia law is utterly incompatible with Western values of freedom and democracy. We must choose which one we will subscribe to – but we can’t have both.
