Fighting Critical Race Theory

CRT is getting out of hand, but resistance to it is taking place:

There is good and bad news concerning Critical Race Theory (CRT), the latest neo-Marxist assault on the West and its values. The bad news is, it seems to be everywhere in America – and increasingly in the West. The good news is, people are starting to fight back. For those not in the know, and who need a simplified layman’s outline as to what CRT is all about, it would go something like this:

Premise 1: The West is inherently and systemically racist – all the time.
Premise 2: All whites are privileged and racist – all the time.
Premise 3: All non-whites are oppressed because of white racism – all the time.
Conclusion: SMASH the evil racist white system!

But don’t take my word for it. The picture I am using in my article very nicely summarises the whole thing. It comes from this page: https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2021/06/critical-race-theory-one-perfect-photo-lloyd-billingsley/

And as can be seen in my outline, this is not mere theory. Action is required. Whether it is BLM rioters burning down our cities, or the radical demands being made for things like reparations, these folks want action. I have written before about all these matters.

As to BLM, see this piece: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2020/06/09/the-truth-matters-about-black-lives-matter/

As to reparations and the case against it, see this article: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2019/06/15/reparations-for-slavery-social-and-political-considerations/

As to a more generic background piece on CRT, read this article: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2021/05/10/critical-race-theory/

Those promoting CRT are becoming increasingly militant and radical in their claims and demands. The examples of this are endless. Here are just two more recent cases. First, check out this headline: “Black holes are racist? Space is the final frontier for the woke on their mission to redefine the universe”!

No, I am not making this up folks. The article begins:

Not content with finding everything on Earth racist, the woke are now boldly going into space as Ivy League university Cornell offers a course that – wait for it – attempts to link cosmological terms with racial inequality. Almost all space is black. ‘Space’, you see: the name is a bit of a giveaway. Scientists say 99.9999999% of everything is, physically…empty. Black. ‘Black’, meaning the absence of light, the absence of color, the absence of matter. Empty. To us mere mortals, that is, to us humans with our inadequate monkey brains and not-very-advanced senses. So, with this solid fact of human existence in our tiny little minds, surely if space is offensive to anyone, it’s to whiteys like me, no? https://www.rt.com/op-ed/527453-black-holes-racist-space/

And here is another case – admittedly, not quite so nutty – also from America: the Iowa public school system has mandated CRT. But watch Dennis Prager as he nicely dissects all this: https://www.prageru.com/video/ep-192-disturbing-iowa-school-documents-leaked/

So that is the bad news. CRT craziness is everywhere. But as I said, there is some good news. Folks are starting to push back against all this activism. Let me offer two encouraging developments here. The first comes from here in Australia. One report puts it this way:

The Australian Senate yesterday voted in support of a motion calling on the federal government to reject critical race theory from the national curriculum. The motion was moved by Senator Pauline Hanson. Critical race theory, or CRT, is an academic theory developed primarily by Black scholars and activists to highlight the systemic and institutional nature of racism.

The motion comes after concerns reported in some media, such as The Australian, that the proposed draft national curriculum’s is “preoccupied with the oppression, discrimination and struggles of Indigenous Australians”.

A draft of the proposed revised national curriculum was released at the end of April. New revisions include a more accurate reflection of the historical record of First Nations people’s experience with colonisation, with a commitment to “truth telling”. This means in part recognising that Australia’s First Nations peoples experienced the British arrival as an “invasion”. (It also classifies as an invasion according to international law at the time.)

After the release of the draft curriculum, a conservative think tank claimed there were signs critical race theory was creeping into schools. https://theconversation.com/the-senate-has-voted-to-reject-critical-race-theory-from-the-national-curriculum-what-is-it-and-why-does-it-matter-163102

My second good news story comes from the US, and it involves ordinary mothers who have had enough of this crappola being force-fed to their children. Let me offer the headlines and opening paragraphs of one recent article – penned by an Australian living in America:

Moms Must Keep Hammering School Boards Until Critical Race Theory Is Dead

Nationwide, mothers in school districts are pushing back against Marxist-infused critical race theory curricula in order to protect their children.

There have been few things more glorious to witness in recent weeks than the impressive array of courageous and relentless mothers around the country lambasting school boards for their support of vile critical race theory. These moms of different socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds are confronting and boldly holding to account school board members, administrators, and teachers who are indoctrinating innocent children with a destructive ideology.

They understand perhaps better than anyone that Marxist-infused curricula intended to sow division and resentment have no place in a free and civilized society, and is endangering their children’s cognitive, psychological, and emotional well-being. It has been an exhilarating display of unity and common decency.

It turns out everyday women don’t want their children being brainwashed to view the world through the lens of “whiteness,” white racism, and white privilege. They don’t agree that America was founded on racist principles. They reject the claim that hard work, self-reliance, objectivity, deferred gratification, family, respect for authority, and respect for the written word are intrinsically racist values exploited by white Americans to relentlessly suppress people of color.

Mothers resent their children being defined as a collective based on race, gender and sexuality, and being told that their achievement in life is determined by these fixed categories as opposed to their endeavors. They don’t like the glorification of organizations like Black Lives Matter that undermine the nuclear family and promote violence against police.

Crucially, they intuit that when school curricula present as fact a pseudo-academic theory that is entirely unsupported by empirical data, and that ipso facto precludes criticism and dissent, students are being propagandized, not educated. Now, protective instincts are kicking in and moms are fighting back.

She closes her piece this way:

Yet as foolish and unacademic as critical race theory is, this poisonous ideology is imperiling children’s education and wellbeing and the preservation of free society. Moms flexing their muscles may be exactly what’s necessary to force ethically delinquent school boards back into the sphere of integrity, intellectualism, academic rigor, and basic morality. https://thefederalist.com/2021/06/21/moms-must-keep-hammering-school-boards-until-critical-race-theory-is-dead/

Now that is encouraging news indeed. It seems whenever I speak on these sorts of issues I am always asked by someone, “Bill, what can we do?” Well, what you just read is one very good answer to that question. The truth is, there is a million things we can do.

Simply being an ordinary mum wanting to protect one’s children from all this neo-Marxist gibberish is one way to proceed. Plenty of other things can be done. As usual, getting the word out on all this is basic. With the mainstream media fully promoting things like CRT, we need to make use of all the alternative media we can to get the other side of the story out far and wide.

And remember: we have a fundamental moral right to stand upon as we speak out against CRT. And that is because Critical Race Theory is racist. Let me close with one expert on this who speaks to the situation in America:

In addition to pointing out the dishonesty of the historical narrative on which critical race theory is predicated, we must promote the true story of America—a story that is honest about injustices in American history, but that places them in the context of our nation’s high ideals and the progress we have made towards realizing them. Genuine American history is rich with stories of achievements and sacrifices that will move the hearts of Americans—in stark contrast to the grim and pessimistic narrative pressed by critical race theorists.

Above all, we must have courage—the fundamental virtue required in our time. Courage to stand and speak the truth. Courage to withstand epithets. Courage to face the mob. Courage to shrug off the scorn of the elites. When enough of us overcome the fear that currently prevents so many from speaking out, the hold of critical race theory will begin to slip. And courage begets courage. It’s easy to stop a lone dissenter; it’s much harder to stop 10, 20, 100, 1,000, 1,000,000, or more who stand up together for the principles of America.

Truth and justice are on our side. If we can muster the courage, we will win. https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/critical-race-theory-fight/
