It is Good to Get Good News

There has been some good news coming out of late in the political realm:

After a week of a lot of bad news following the Australian federal election, we are starting to get some good news as well. Indeed, I have said in various articles this week that the reality is this: we will always win some, and we will always lose some. When it comes to politics, the ‘good guys’ might be in power for a few terms, and then the ‘bad guys’ might be in. So we have to be prepared for good times and bad times, politically speaking.

The crushing defeat of the Liberal Party can only be redeemed if some super-solid soul-searching takes place, old failed strategies are rejected, and the Party recalls what it is supposed to be all about. And one thing it sure is not about is simply trying to move more and more to the left, and be more and more like Labor. That is a proven recipe for disaster.

Whether the Libs have the ability to see this, and weed out some dead wood, remains to be seen. Starting with the traitorous Turnbull would be a good obvious place to begin. Plenty of others should be sent packing as well. But many of us fear it will be business as usual.

Until some of the conservative champions in the Senate are brought into the lower house, there is next to nothing to choose from, apart from a few like Andrew Hastie. So all this is the bad news, with Labor currently holding 50 more seats than the Liberals! But there has been a bit of good news, both here and overseas, so let me mention a few examples.

The implosion of the Greens

This is certainly one of the better bits of news. Not only has the Greens’ vote been going down, but three of their four sitting MPs have lost their seats: Brisbane, Griffith and Melbourne have now fallen, but the seat of Ryan remains with the Greens.

Three out of four – not bad! And the seat of Melbourne of course belonged to the Greens’ leader, Adam Bandt. He is now a goner. This may have been the best bit of news out of the entire election. A few chants have already gone up:

“From the Yarra to the seeya”

“From the Yarra to the sea, Melbourne is finally free.”

“Hamas has lost its Australian leader.”

He basically supported Hamas while he demonised Israel. He campaigned for an end to the Jewish state, while making excuses for diabolical and horrific terrorism and bloodshed. He refused to stand in front of Australian flags, and his policies have pushed the Greens to the very outer fringes.

As I posted on the social media yesterday about his departure: “When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness” (Proverbs 11:10). He has now perished politically. We can keep praying for him, that he finds Christ. But we should welcome this good news and celebrate indeed.

So the Greens have lost big time in the lower house, although 11 Greens may still remain in the Senate. So this is only partially good news. But voters are waking up to the fact that this is no longer just some environmental party, but an extremist cult that hates Australia, hates Israel, hates family, and hates freedom. It is as divisive a party as you can get. Yet they still think that they must go even further in their climate alarmism, Israel-hating, and woke agendas.

The Teals

Thankfully some of the Teals have also been in trouble. For example, Zoe Daniel lost Goldstein to Liberal Tim Wilson – even though she danced with delight on Saturday night thinking she had won. Talk about getting that one wrong. With other Teals still on shaky ground, it seems that the electorate is starting to wake up to them as well, along with the Greens. These smaller parties, like the earlier Democrats, might just be a flash in the pan.

Of course as to the Wilson win, this is a bit of a mixed bag. Now there is already talk of him seeking the leadership of the Liberal Party. Hmm, just what they need: a leftist and a homosexual. That should please the conservative and Christian base of the party – not. It just means driving the Libs even more in the direction of Labor and the Greens. So I am glad that some Teals are losing their seats – but who replaces them makes a big difference.

NSW and abortion

The win here was 10,000 pro-lifers rallying outside of Parliament House last night in Sydney. Speakers included Joanna Howe, Archbishop Anthony Fisher, and Tony Abbott. The flip side of course – the bad news – is the horrific abortion bill they were standing against. In February Amanda Cohn of the Greens introduced the “Abortion Law Reform Amendment (Health Care Access) Bill 2025”.

It is a terrible bill, with the intent of forcing Christian hospitals and health workers to participate in abortions against their conscience. George Christensen said this about it:

Pro-life leader Dr Joanna Howe has revealed that New South Wales Premier Chris Minns and NSW Labor have struck a backroom deal with the Greens to ram their radical abortion bill through Parliament THIS WEEK. Now that the federal election is over and they no longer need the religious vote, Labor is giving this bill priority over all other business—fast-tracking it with government time to force it through before opposition can build. This is not just a New South Wales issue. Rather it’s a direct assault on life, religious freedom, and medical ethics in Australia that will be replicated by other State governments before too long.

So the news here is certainly mixed. This bill is evil and must not be passed. But it was so very encouraging to see such a large crowd turning up last night to stand against this pro-death legislation. Please keep praying for the outcome of all this thanks.

UK

I have spoken a number of times lately about the big wins of Nigel Farage and Reform UK in the local elections held there. It seems they are going from strength to strength, and some commentators are saying he could well become the country’s next Prime Minister.

Writing in spiked-online, Frank Furedi said this about the major gains:

Reform UK’s recent electoral victories are the latest sign that the global populist surge is not slowing down. Last week, Nigel Farage’s party won control of 10 local councils, won two mayoralties and even managed to win another MP in the Runcorn and Helsby by-election. Clearly, populism remains a major political force.

Indeed, British voters have long been at the forefront of the anti-globalist revolt. The triumph of Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum unleashed a populist energy that continues to haunt the political and cultural establishment to this day. Brexit demonstrated that the people’s voice could no longer be silenced by those who believe that there is no alternative to the status quo.

In retrospect, Brexit marked the beginning of the end of the cosmopolitan order, personified by ‘Davos Man’, the archetypal attendee of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Writing in Forbes a month after the 2016 referendum, journalist Kenneth Rapoza correctly characterised Brexit as ‘The populist revolt against “Davos Man”’. ‘Brexit proved once again that Davos Man isn’t all-knowing’, Rapoza argued. Not only did the elites not see the Leave vote coming, their apocalyptic predictions of Brexit-induced economic doom also never came to pass.

Brexit caused no end of consternation for the cosmopolitan elites….

He closed his piece this way:

The working classes were betrayed by their former parties and left without a medium through which they could voice their concerns. No wonder that populist upstarts, expressing genuine empathy with ordinary people, have been able to rise to prominence.

In Britain, Reform is fast becoming the vessel for those who want their voices heard and their values respected. That is the essence of populism. Whatever happens to the party next, the mood it has tapped into is clearly here to stay. This was no mere ‘protest vote’. https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/05/06/the-reform-revolt-is-more-than-a-protest-vote/

USA

In America there of course have been quite a few big wins now that Trump is dealing with the woke and DEI agendas, draining the swamp, and weeding out billions of dollars of waste, fraud and corruption. One of the most recent wins comes in the form of the US Supreme Court ruling that the Trump Administration can enforce its trans ban in the military.

The justices blocked a lower court order that temporarily halted the enforcement of the ban. Good. The military should be about one thing only: defending the nation, and not becoming a hothouse for all the latest trendy woke agenda items. Strong committed soldiers are the need of the hour, not sexual fetishes and identity politics.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this on X: “No more trans @ DoD”. He also said this: “No more pronouns, no more climate change obsession, no more emergency vaccine mandates, no more dudes in dresses. We’re done with that sh-t.” And it’s about time too.

So as can be seen, we have some clear wins here, while other wins were bitter-sweet, with plenty more battles still to be dealt with in the days ahead. But we must take encouragement when and where we can find it. Seeing Bandt gone is terrific, and for many of us, a real answer to prayer. Seeing the Teals slowly begin to implode is also good news.

Having so many pro-lifers taking a strong stand against the horrible Greens’ death bill was also so very encouraging (please keep praying for the outcome of that one as well). The rise and rise of Reform UK is also good news, given what a wretched condition the UK has been in for so many years now. And the many welcome moves by Team Trump are also something to celebrate.

Yes, we will keep having losses along the way. But when we get some wins, they are worth proclaiming and they are worth raising a glass to. Keep working and keep praying friends. God is not yet done with planet earth.

  1. Thank you Bill for pointing out the great gains that were made during this time of terrible disappointment with our latest election results . As you pointed out there are such great outcomes as well, and the remnants’ few conservatives politicians left on the benches will now fight harder as is already apparent.
