Charlie Kirk: Christian Martyr, Conservative Champion, Truth Speaker
Now more than ever, truth must be proclaimed:
Here is a something you can count on: those who love lies hate the truth, and those who live by truth. As George Orwell once put it, “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” He also put it this way: “Truth is treason in an empire of lies.”
The assassination of Christian conservative Charlie Kirk is just the latest example of this. The lovers of lies tried to kill Trump but just narrowly missed – literally. But they gunned down Kirk. The left is not interested in debate – they are only interested in silencing opposing viewpoints. Leftist could not out-debate Charlie, so they killed him.
And this did not happen in a vacuum. The left and the mainstream media have been demonising and dehumanising Kirk for years now – just as they have Trump. Thus they are in good measure responsible for the horrific assassination of Kirk and the attempted assassinations of Trump.
The odd thing is, Kirk was killed on a university campus. College campuses are supposed to be places where free speech and an open exchange of ideas take place. But our schools are now hotbeds of leftist activism and ideology. Indoctrination had replaced education, and these campuses have now become very unsafe places indeed.
But Charlie was bravely involved in challenging the progressive hegemony at these campuses. He thrived on discussing ideas, even with angry and nasty opponents. He knew that truth-speaking, and not violence, hate and intimidation, was the way to go in changing the views of others.
Kirk was an incredible patriot with a deep love for God and especially for America’s God. But the radical left hates America, and it especially hates God. So it has long hated Kirk. This is especially the case since he could easily win one debate after another with these folks.
He simply wanted to engage with others and have discussions. He was largely self-educated, with no college education, but he could readily best these college kids and grad students in discussions and debates. And that really upset the left. As I wrote in my piece yesterday about his death:
“Kirk enraged the radical left because he was a happy Christian with a wonderful family, and he dealt with his intellectual and ideological opponents with facts and good cheer. He invited his most ardent detractors to come and debate him. His mastery of the facts and his debating skills meant he constantly was getting the best of his countless debating partners. No wonder so many leftists hated him so much.” https://billmuehlenberg.com/2025/09/11/on-the-charlie-kirk-assassination/
How do we respond?
The sad reality is the demonised left is willing to kill some of us to shut us up. But thankfully all that will do is wake so many of us up. And we must learn from history here. There have always been attempts to silence the churches and God’s people. As Jesus told us, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).
Or as G. K. Chesterton rightly said with his characteristic wit: “At least five times the Faith has to all appearances gone to the dogs. In each of these five cases, it was the dog that died.” Charlie did not die in vain. He may have been gunned down, but a hundred will rise to take his place. A thousand will rise to take his place.
Indeed, recall another Charlie. Ten years ago the horrific Charlie Hebdo shootings in Paris took place. Eleven people were murdered by Muslim jihadists. Many Westerners wanting to show support for the satirical newspaper and those killed started to emblazon the phrase “I am Charlie” on their clothing. They wanted to identify with the victims.
We should do the same with the Charlie Kirk shooting. In an interview with Rita Panahi about the Kirk assassination, English commentator Douglas Murray said we must bear in mind the words of Ayaan Hirsi Ali concerning the Hebdo killings: ‘The best thing is to spread the risk around’. That is, we all should be Charlie; we all should speak up even more; we all should refuse to be cowed by the haters. Good advice indeed.
And we all need to be Charlie Kirk. We need to carry his torch and pass it on to others. Never forget these realities:
The hate-filled mobs sought to silence Jesus for speaking the truth.
The hate-filled mobs sought to silence Charlie Kirk for speaking the truth.
The mobs failed and the truth is still being proclaimed.
As we read in Hebrews 11:4: “though he died, he still speaks”.
Keep speaking out friends! Kirk would not want you to pull back and self-censor yourself. He would not want you to cower in fear. He would want you to be even more bold and faith-filled as you proclaim truth to a world inundated with lies.
Jesus wants us to do the same. When he said ‘you will know the truth and the truth will set you free’ (John 8:32), he was telling us how we are to proceed in a sin-soaked and lie-laced world. He knew that speaking the truth in love (as Paul exhorted us in Ephesians 4:15, and as Charlie Kirk exemplified) was the way to proceed.
Prayer points
Over the past few days I have been repeatedly praying for the family of the murdered 23-year-old Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska. Progressive leftist and Democrat policies in good measure led to her diabolical killing. See one of my two articles on her here: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2025/09/10/iryna-zarutska-never-needed-to-have-died-like-this/
I am now repeatedly praying for the family of the murdered Charlie Kirk. Iryna should not have died. Charlie should not have died. But the rabid left is now fully in the grip of demonic forces. This is a political and ideological war to be sure. But even much more, it is a spiritual war.
This is a war of ideas, but much more a war in the heavenlies. So while God’s people need to engage in the political and intellectual arenas, above all we must engage in the spiritual realm, with much more concentrated prayer and spiritual warfare.
And one last prayer point: Please pray that this vile assassin is quickly caught by authorities and brought to justice.
God bless you Charlie Kirk. We WILL keep speaking truth in a truth-starved world, just as you and Jesus did. This IS our turning point.

Faith in Jesus is not religion
Faith like Charlie loved even his enemies
He died was murdered because his love and faith convicted the God haters
Charlie is in glory
His family suffers
Jesus death and Charlies death will serve a purpose that one day we will celebrate together
Thanks Ilona.
A hundred, a thousand, perhaps a million voices will arise as the blood of Charlie cries out from the ground.
There will come a groundswell like one we have never seen before. A boldness will come upon the church and the Son will set us free indeed, they will love not their life unto death, and the truth will set many free.
Such is our hope and prayer.
Quite so Ben.
Beautifully written as always and inspiring us all to continue to Stand Firm and Speak the Truth in Love, Bill.
Glory be to God for your faithful witness, Brother in Christ.
And the Battle is the Lord’s and we take further courage in the fight predominately in Prayer for persecuted Christians world-wide….
Amen Melinda.
I’m still gutted by this! He was such an effective force puncturing the lies and deception young people are under in those Leftwing seminaries we call universities. Many Aussies were also touched by him.
But i have a feeling the truth will spread even more aggressively from this day forward!
I hear you Damien.
An ex-felon high on fentanyl inadvertently dies while being arrested for trying to purchase products from a bodega using counterfeit money and there are riots, black owned businesses are looted and burnt to the ground, people are shot and beaten up.
An ex felon dies from fentanyl toxicity while being arrested for trying to purchase products with counterfeit money and there are violent riots and looting everywhere.
A family man and thoroughly decent human being is killed while attempting to having a conversation about politics on a university with university students and flags are put at half mast and people hold vigils to remember him.
I’m noticing the extreme contrast to 2020 right now.
Yes quite right Joel.
In 2012, Marina Keegan was about to graduate from Yale. One night, she sat in the Administration Building hall. In her book published posthumously (The Opposite of Loneliness. 2014), she writes, “And I looked up. At this giant room I was in. At this place where thousands of people had sat before me. And alone, at night, in the middle of a New Haven storm, I felt so remarkably, unbelievably safe. We don’t have a word for the opposite of loneliness, but if we did, I’d say that’s how I feel at Yale. How I feel right now, Here. With all of you. In love, impressed, humbled, scared. And we don’t have to lose that.”
Showing great promise as an essayist and novelist, she was killed in a car crash not long after. I wonder what she would say or how she would react to the assassination of Charlie Kirk?
Thanks Russell.
