Creeping Sharia: Lessons From the UK
All over the Western world we see prime examples of creeping sharia and the Islamisation of free, democratic societies. And as more and more of this occurs, the less free and democratic these societies become. One nation that seems to be leading the West in all this is the UK.
On a regular basis we hear of more horror stories emanating from this part of the world, with the spread of sharia seemingly unstoppable. And while the march of radical Islam proceeds apace, the decline of Christianity is also occurring.
Simply looking at the number of former Christian churches in the UK which are now mosques is but one example of all this. But on a regular basis the newspaper headlines confirm all this. Consider three recent headlines coming from the UK.
The first headline is a real shocker: “Girl of five is youngest UK victim of forced marriage as Home Office looks at prosecuting families”. The article begins this way: “Up to 400 children in the past year have been coerced into or threatened with marriage – including a girl aged just five.
“She is the youngest victim in Britain, according to the Home Office’s Forced Marriage Unit. The young age of victims was disclosed as ministers consider whether to bring in new laws to make it possible to prosecute families who compel children to marry.
“A new criminal offence of forced marriage could be similar to the system in force in Scotland, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail. Children make up nearly a third of cases dealt with by the Home Office organisation. Its head, Amy Cumming, said: ‘The youngest of these was actually five years old, so there are children involved in the practice across the school age range.’
“Miss Cumming said 29 per cent of the cases her unit dealt with last year were under the age of 18. The name of the five-year-old has not been disclosed and no details of where or how she was married have been released. The Home Office said that most cases involve families from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and North and East Africa.”
In the past when people migrated to another country, it was because they liked what they saw there, and wanted to be a part of it and blend in. But increasingly, especially with folks from Muslim-majority countries, they are not blending in at all, but are setting up parallel societies, expecting the host nation to embrace their values, beliefs and customs. That is not quite how multiculturalism was supposed to work actually.
The second example is just as frightening. The headline reads: “100,000 British women mutilated”. Imagine if the Christian religion were responsible for something like this. The secular lefties would be demanding the immediate end to Christianity. But when done by another religion, then it is just another example of multiculturalism and learning to be tolerant and just get along.
The story begins: “As many as 100,000 women in Britain have undergone female genital mutilations with medics in the UK offering to carry out the illegal procedure on girls as young as 10, it has been reported. Investigators from The Sunday Times said they secretly filmed a doctor, dentist and alternative medicine practitioner who were allegedly willing to perform circumcisions or arrange for the operation to be carried out. The doctor and dentist deny any wrongdoing.
“The practice, which involves the surgical removal of external genitalia and in some cases the stitching of the vaginal opening, is illegal in Britain and carries up to a 14 year prison sentence. It is also against the law to arrange FGM.
“Known as ‘cutting’, the procedure is traditionally carried out for cultural reasons and is widespread across Africa. It is thought to be needed as proof of a girl’s ‘purity’ for when she marries, but victims are rarely given anaesthetic and frequently suffer long-term damage and pain. Research suggests that every year up to 6,000 girls in London are at risk of the potentially fatal procedure, and more than 22,000 in the UK as a whole.”
The truth is, not all cultures are equal, and some cultural practices are simply unacceptable in our Western democracies. That is why multiculturalism has so often failed big time: it has been based on the false premise of cultural relativism. But clearly some cultural practices are to be preferred to others, and Western nations should not be ashamed of affirming and upholding their own values.
Not only is the spread of Islam remaking the UK and the West, but it is also having a direct bearing on Christianity as well. It is getting more and more difficult for Christians in their own countries to stand up for their faith in public. Increasingly to do so is seen as “hate speech” and the granting of special rights to Muslim minorities often means the reduction of rights for Christian majorities.
Consider this headline: “Norwich church banned from using market stall after complaints about ‘hate-related’ leaflets”. The story goes this way: “A church has been banned from using a market stall to hold its weekly outreach service following a complaint about ‘hate-motivated’ leaflets published by the group.
“The Norwich Reformed Church held a weekly outreach bookstall from the Norwich City Council-owned site on Hay Hill, but has been informed it is no longer allowed to use the stall after the council received a complaint about literature on it. The complaint prompted a review of the materials produced by Reverend Alan Clifford, pastor of the church, and the council contacted police as materials, particularly the leaflet entitled Why not Islam, were considered to be hate-motivated.
“The church has been prohibited from using the site, while the council-run Eaton Park Community Centre has also been contacted with a view to ceasing any further bookings made by the church. A council spokesman said: ‘We received a complaint from a member of the public about material published by the Norwich Reformed Church (associated with the Farthing Trust) which uses council facilities.
“‘This was considered to be hate-motivated and, in accordance with the agreed Norfolk Multi Agency Protocol, we contacted the police. ‘Although the police advised that no criminal offence had been committed, we have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to foster good relations between people of all backgrounds and religions. By allowing premises owned by the council to be used by an organisation publishing such material, we would be failing in that duty. People across Norfolk have recently been urged to stand up to hate-motivated and intolerant behaviour through a publicity campaign and as a council we have to play our part and take action where necessary.’
“Rev Clifford, who has written to the Christian Institute for advice, said an ‘extraordinarily silly’ form of ‘political correctness’ had emerged. He said: ‘While the opinion of the Christian Institute is awaited, it is hoped that in due course, common sense might prevail, and that Norwich Reformed Church’s rights to worship and witness will be restored’.”
But common sense is often the last thing prevailing in these situations. As creeping sharia spreads its tentacles even further, and with an even tighter grip, more and more examples of the loss of freedom, the curtailment of democratic rights, and the restriction of Christianity will be found.
As always, unless we wake up and do something about this, and do something soon, it may well be too late.

“That is not quite how multiculturalism was supposed to work actually.” – well, that’s not how the powers-that-be – who encouraged mass-immigartion – have sold it, or claimed that it would be/was – but in truth, the separate societies/rejection of Western values have actually served their real motives very well indeed …
John Thomas, UK
Western civlisation is facing an unprecedented threat to its very existence. We are faced with a stark choice. Crush this threat or be crushed. There is no middle ground. We are no longer dealing with innocuous cultural differences but militant, intolerant ideologies that brook no criticism or dissent. This aggressive assault has two prongs; one come from the homosexual Marxists and the other from the fascist Muslims. Sodhimmitude and Dhimmitude. The question is: which of the two will win?

Looks like the UK has become the cesspit of Europe!
Steve Davis
Thanks Steve
Yes it certainly has got some big problems. But much of Europe is not doing very well either.

The UK is fast becoming an example of not what to do. Yet it seems inevitable that this kind of thing will happen here too.
Peter Sanderson
Yes Peter, unless we stand up and be counted.

Great piece. Can the process be reversed in the U.K.? Or have they passed the point of no return?
Allen Mitchum
Good question Allen
It depends if the English – especially English Christians – wake from their slumber and say enough is enough and start to take a stand. That remains to be seen however.
