Treasuring Every Book of the Bible
Christians should love, and live in, all 66 books of the Bible:
Every Christian should love God of course. And given that the primary means by which God has communicated with us is by his word, then every Christian should love the Bible. Yes, Jesus reveals God to us as well, but we primarily learn about Jesus through Scripture.
However there would be far too many believers who have never read the entire Bible. They might have read much of the New Testament, and bits of the Old, such as the Psalms, but they have never actually read through all 66 books – 39 in the OT and 27 in the NT.
Recall what Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
Here I highlight each biblical book by sharing just one powerful verse from each one. This can be a tough thing to do, since one might find 100 terrific passages in the Psalms, a dozen great verses in Romans, and so on. And it might seem hard to find one standout text in some biblical books.
But these are the sorts of verses I have noted in my daily reading and listed in my personal concordance. You might want to do the same: not only read every book of the Bible but then jot down one or more of your favourite passages.
And bear in mind that they may not all be ‘positive’ or uplifting texts – sometimes they are words of warning or rebuke. Those sorts of passages are also important. Here then are some of my treasured passages – out of many!
Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Exodus 2:24-25 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.
Leviticus 19:18 You shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Numbers 11:29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’S people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!”

Judges 7:2 The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me’.”

Esther 4:13-14 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Very encouraging message this morning before church!
Thank you!
Thanks Patty.
Those verses were encouraging for today Bill, as US and Israel try to disarm/take out the evil Iranian regime, but not everyone believes or understands why US and Israel have to war against Iran. If people read the Old Testament they will find out why US and Israel have to overcome Iran for our freedoms to continue, otherwise we will be annihilated. So lets pray and hope the evil regime will be overtaken soon.
Thank you Lynette.
You are absolutely correct. To avoid some books of the Bible and treasure others is the heresy of canon within a canon and so many Christians, even pastors commit it. Thank you for sharing this wonderful list of Scriptures.
Thanks Tim.
Thanks for sharing your picks!
I was weeping by the time I got to Leviticus…and still in tears upon reaching the Revelation–O, what a promise!
Many thanks Paula.
