An Inspiring Example of the Power of One
This British Christian needs to be better known:
Here is something to keep in mind: there are numerous well-known heroes and champions of the faith who have done so much for Christ and the Kingdom. But I suspect that the great majority of heroes will never be known about, except by a tiny handful of people.
One such individual is the 81-year-old English Christian David Skinner. I just looked it up, and it seems the first time David commented on my CultureWatch website was way back in February of 2007. He was quite taken by an article I wrote in 2006 titled “When Nations Collapse”. He said this in his first comment:
“Dear Bill, Britain is on the verge of enforcing with the utmost vigour, the Sexual Orientation Regulations – due to start rolling in April. Could this be the definitive tipping point for our nation – the cancer within? I would like to find more evidence from history that it was due the destruction of the family that caused the rest of a nation to follow suit.”
A month later he sent in this comment:
Dear Bill, You need to sound the alarm. Britain without any one being aware, except for a handful of people, passed from liberty into bondage and Marxist oppression, last Wednesday night, 21st March 2007. All that thousands had fought and died for, some in the most brutal fashion, over the previous centuries, was lost during one vital debate in the House of Lords. Rub your eyes, pinch yourself, put it in your diary. It has really happened. The Sexual Orientation Regulation engine has started and on April 30st it leaves the station to inexorably pull Britain into the darkness. Wake up Australia. https://billmuehlenberg.com/2006/07/07/when-nations-collapse/
He has been active on my site ever since. My wife and I got to stay with him for a few days back in 2014. A year ago I wrote two articles which featured David and his ministry: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2025/05/18/the-death-of-free-speech-in-the-uk/
https://billmuehlenberg.com/2025/05/20/unsung-heroes-for-the-kingdom/
Those two pieces give you a lot of insight into what a tireless worker he is, and the heavy price he has had to pay for being a beacon of righteousness in a dark and godless land. In my daily prayers, I lift up David and some of the other Christian warriors there, such as Lisa Nolland. It always burdens me knowing how few such champions there are in the UK, especially those willing to be bruised and battered as they engage in the culture wars and seek to be salt and light.
Like so many activist Christians – me included – David knows all about how the secular left uses lawfare to silence us and shut us down. So he has been battling the thought police, the actual police, and the courts for years now. Whether he silently prays outside of an abortion mill, or resists the radical homosexual agenda, he has been in spiritual battle mode for decades now.
Some good news
Just last week David sent out an email to friends and supporters, announcing a win has finally come his way. He said in part:
I want to give thanks to the Christian Legal Centre for gaining the victory for me over the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, 24th April, by overturning the conviction made against me in Poole Magistrates Court on 1st May 2025, and as a consequence having to pay nearly £4000 in fines, court costs, and administration fees, plus being threatened with a two- year prison sentence. The conviction was for sending an email to senior public authorities in Dorset, including a police inspector, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and local BCP (Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole) councillors. My email contained text and graphic images opposing abortion and censorship zones around clinics in Bournemouth.
I want above all to give God the glory.
I want to give thanks to my long-suffering wife for standing by me and keeping the home fires burning.
I want especially to give thanks to my brilliant legal defence, Michael Phillips, supported by Navaid Syede and the righteous Judge Pushpinder Saini, who overturned the conviction.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers.
The judgment brought an end to criminal proceedings that had lasted nearly 3 years, during which time I was forced to attend Poole Magistrates’ Court ten times. This included having to attend a trial that was cancelled at the last minute in October 2024, because the court listing for that day had been clogged with minor cases, plus the magistrates did not feel qualified to judge my case. This was a disgrace for which no one seems to be accountable, and it seems to be a psychological weapon for demoralising and grinding down those caught up in the judiciary’s spider web. The process itself is the punishment which is designed to shut up all dissenting voices.
As is happening with many others who are receiving rough justice, my trial on the 1st May 2025, appeared to have been pre-judged and lasted barely an hour and a half.
He went on to say this:
We can thank the Trump administration and the Vice-President of America, J.D. Vance, for highlighting the gagging of all dissent towards the genocide of 10 million (and rising) unborn children, since 1967, in Britain. But only grass-roots pressure put on those in government, coming from public opinion, will change the law and bring to an end the scourge of abortion, which has brought a curse on our land.
By God’s grace, our victory is not the end; it is only the beginning. I appeal to everyone to wake their churches from a deadly slumber and become engaged in a spiritual war against those who imagine and contrive to create laws designed to destroy the British nation. This war is more real than a flesh-and-blood war.
‘..we do not war after the flesh:(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience…’. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Blessings, David Skinner
I immediately replied to that email, saying: “Great news David – well done! You have been in my prayers.” And he still is in my daily prayers. Consider two sad realities about all this: One, there seem to be so few Christians there who are involved in the good fight like David is.
Sure, there are all sorts of ‘Christian’ churches and activities, but how many of them have long ago capitulated to the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, and pro-trans agendas, and how many of them have fully allowed themselves to be hoodwinked into embracing Islam?
Two, I would imagine most Christians who are 81 have long ago moved into retirement mode, are living the good life, and are enjoying cruises down the Rhine River. But not David. He is one of those resolute Christians who would much rather burn out than rust out.
Just today I got another email – this one from MassResistance, speaking about David and his case. There is a link in the email to the full story. It begins this way:
David Skinner is 81 years old, but he is one of the most fearless and effective pro-family (and MassResistance) activists anywhere. Britain has become one of the most brutal anti-family and anti-free speech regimes in the West. When it comes to the basic constitutional rights of citizens, police protection and the criminal justice systems have largely collapsed. So David’s court victory has been celebrated in pro-family media across the UK.
In 2017, David took charge of our new UK MassResistance chapter. He already had scores of pro-family contacts across Britain. That year, Brian Camenker of MassResistance spent a week in the UK working with David to help organize. From his home base in Bournemouth, David and the others directly confronted the LGBT agenda that was ravaging the country.
The article goes on to discuss the abortion “safe zone” case he has been fighting all this time, and the appeal to his conviction. It ends this way:
David Skinner is a special fellow. Even at 81 years old, he boldly sticks with his principles, takes on the hard battles, and does not give up. He tells the truth in a country where the truth can put you in prison! Compare this with the pathetic state of the mainstream pro-life movement in the U.S. They are perpetually afraid of offending anyone. They water down their message to be “nice” rather than aggressively telling the uncomfortable and distasteful truth. They would never present the actual gory photos in their message to the public officials who are part of the problem. It’s embarrassing to suggest, but can Americans learn some lessons on “revolution” from these British? https://www.massresistance.org/docs/gen5/26b/UK-activist-wins-court-appeal/index.html
David certainly is a special fellow. I have known him now for two decades, and I wish there were more Davids like him to take on all the Goliaths waging war against us and the Christian faith. If only we had more stalwart and indefatigable champions like David.
The Lord bless you and keep you, David!

Amen.
I agree Bill, well done David. The UK hasn’t changed much. Our convicts used to be put in prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed their families, and then they were sent to places like Australia to work as slaves, while the rich grew richer. Same evil devil, now convicting anyone speaking out against abortion, same-sex marriage and transgendering by putting them in prison or fining them with colossal court cases.
The sad reality is there are enough christians in the UK to end all this madness in a heart beat if they only made the most minimal effort.
But like in Oz they dont. They dont even make the slightest effort.
Yes sadly so Damien.
Thanks Bill, for this update on David our brother. He was a prolific contributor to this site back in the day, with some of his comments being longer than the article in question. 🙂
Seriously, those British authorities to whom Mr Skinner’s correspondence was addressed, testify by their actions, that they know perfectly well that what they are doing, is wrong.
Why else would they be upset by factual information about a legal medical procedure, that they themselves approve of?
Some years ago, I sent similar correspondence to the members of Tasmania’s upper house, who voted for the Reproductive Health (Access to Terminations) Act 2013.
One particularly irate male MLC, being unable to find my number in the phone book, rang my close relative, and screamed the words “Absolutely disgusting” into her answering machine, before violently slamming down the receiver.
Now, if this gentleman believes abortion is “absolutely disgusting”, why on earth did he vote for it…?
Thanks Cathie.
