How to Kill a Nation (From Within)

Enough already. Let’s just get it over with and put this nation out of its misery. How much further down the gurgler can it go? Surely it has reached rock bottom by now, and no amount of CPR is going to do it any good. Only a miracle can resurrect this basket case.

I refer to the nation once known as Great Britain. It is now Godless, Gruesome and Ghastly Britain. I have written before of its many acts of self-immolation. Incredibly, two more PC whoppers have just emerged. I don’t know how any nation can survive so many self-inflicted wounds.

The first case of insanity involves possible prison terms for parents who refuse to let their kids sit through a homosexual indoctrination program in a primary school. As one news report says, “UK parents could face criminal charges for having removed their children from programs held at George Tomlinson Primary School promoting the homosexual lifestyle. Waltham Forest council has announced it will prosecute parents of about 30 children who did not attend a week’s worth of lessons coinciding with ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month’.”

Fortunately there are a few Brits with a modicum of sanity left in the country. Richard Littlejohn of the Daily Mail did not mince his words about this idiocy: “This isn’t education, it’s cultural fascism”. It is all about coercing people into politically correct ideologies, and children are our big losers: “Labour’s deranged obsession with social engineering over genuine education has betrayed an entire generation”.

Of course the school says this is an important component of the study of history. But as Littlejohn rightly asks, “What has any of this got to do with ‘history’? It’s about as historical as Andy Pandy. (Come to think of it, I’m surprised the relationship between Andy and Teddy isn’t being explored as part of gay history month. Goodness knows what they got up to in that box.) And why a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender month, anyway? Why not a Foot Fetishists, Spankers, Sadists and Masochists History Month?”

And spare us this baloney about tolerance: “Risibly, Waltham Forest said that action was being taken against the parents as part of a policy of ‘promoting tolerance’. So why not tolerate parents who, for sincerely-held reasons, consider their children too young to be taught about gay relationships? That’s because when it comes to so-called tolerance, the new, intolerant state religion of ‘diversity’ trumps the old religions any day of the week. Parents who choose to tell their children about homosexuality only when they feel the time is right have to be pummelled into submission, using the full might of the law if necessary.”

The second episode involves yet another round of attack on marriage and family. It especially helps bring about the death of fathers and the very notion of fatherhood. As a Daily Mail article puts it, it seems that “single women having IVF will be able to name anyone they like as their baby’s father on the birth certificate. New regulations mean that a mother could nominate another woman to be her child’s ‘father’. The ‘father’ does not need to be genetically related to the baby, nor be in any sort of romantic relationship with the mother.”

“Critics said a woman could list her best friend on the birth certificate. The word ‘father’ may even be replaced with the phrase ‘second parent’. The second parent, who will have to consent to being named, will take on the legal and moral responsibilities of parenthood. This raises the spectre of a legal minefield in which female ‘fathers’ will fight for visitation rights and be chased for child support payments if their fragile relationship with the mother breaks down. The changes, due to come in on April 6, will apply to many of the 2,000 women a year who have IVF using sperm from anonymous donors.”

The article offers a number of concerns raised by critics: The practice would lead to the “falsification of the birth certificate. This is putting the rights of the parents way above those of the child. It is absurd that anyone can be named as the father or the second parent.” (Baroness Deech, a former chairman of the HFEA)

“There is no doubt from sociological evidence accumulated over the past few years that children do best in a two-parent married family with heterosexual couples being the married parents. It probably will be the child that is the loser but by the time we find that out, in 15 or 16 years, a huge amount of damage will have been done.” (Dr Trevor Stammers, a GP and lecturer in healthcare ethics)

“I don’t think the state should collude with parents to conceal the true genetic identity,” and a birth certificate should be a true record of a child’s genetic heritage. (Geraldine Smith, Labour MP for Morecambe)

“This sounds like social engineering on the hoof.” (David Jones, a professor of bioethics)

“We are going to get to the point where a birth certificate is not going to be a true statement of anyone’s biological heritage.” (Philippa Taylor, of Christian charity CARE)

“The present Government seems not to care a damn about families. Teenage pregnancy is on the increase, abortion is on the increase, family breakdown is at record levels and we have got a growing number of dysfunctional children that are the product of broken homes. The lesson seems to be loud and clear to me that fathers are required.” (Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith)

Other critics are mentioned. And rightly so. This is just another example of anti-family social engineering run amok. Every step of radical engineering not only destroys families, but destroys societies and nations. Everyone suffers when such lunacy is allowed to run unchecked.

These two cases, along with many others which this website and others have reported, make it crystal clear that there is nothing great about Great Britain any more. Having jettisoned and renounced its own Judeo-Christian heritage, it is left floundering on the raging tempest of relativism, subjectivism, radical individualism and statism.

Jesus once said that a house built on the rock will stand, but a house built on shifting sands will collapse when the winds and the rains arise. England today is a nation without a foundation, and it is in terminal decay, unless something drastic happens to turn this mess around. Whether that happens is anyone’s guess.

  1. Bill,

Words fail me, but thank you for your words. What can one say or do? It’s not yet that bad in little ol’ NZ. We’ve had a reprieve with the demise of the previous Labour administration. But I’m not hopeful for the future…

    Dominic Baron, New Zealand

  2. As i read this article, processed it, and archived it in my mind along with other related articles, i could not help the constant thought of… “Oh crap, we’re screwed.”

More and more, it begins to look more hopeless, and brighter is the only hope left that is Jesus who will come again, and if not, we’re really screwed.

Worse still to know that it will only get worse, and we’re going to have to live through it, fight it, and watch the next generation succumb to it.

    In much sigh, Tony Trinh

  3. Actually, Tony, I believe that there are enough people still around with some sanity, that they need to know what’s going on, find their democratic voice in concert with all the rest of us, and a big difference can be made.
In the mean time, we on this site, can pray for this ground-swell to get organised with each other, by the power of God in Jesus.
The politicians are all just taking the easy way out on all these decisions. Jesus’ way is the harder way – the long-term way of looking after people from conception to a natural grave.

  4. I once heard a minister say that the “Great” was removed when Britain failed to adequately protect the Jews in Palestine at the time of the UN vote, and he believed that because of this, more calamities would occur.
Where is the insipid Rowan Williams in all of this? Trying to be culturally relevant I suppose!

  5. As I reside in this offshore administrative zone of the European Union, formerly known as Britain, I know that many residents here will not identify with, or recognise, Great Britain as being a “basket case“, besides which, they are too stressed and distracted with the loss of their jobs, their homes and families in the “current economic downturn” to even notice or care. If the distance of Australia does not lend enchantment to the view, imagine how God views it from his infinite reference point.

When I tell my nearest and dearest that there is a war on, that we face the gravest threat to our nation since World War II, they look at me as though I should be sectioned. Yes, they know that Gordon Brown’s government is the walking dead, but for me to suggest that it is consciously and deliberately destroying marriage, family and the lives of countless children is going too far.

I have been struggling for two years now to paint a broad canvas of Britain from the Biblical vantage point. Thank God we still have the charts, compasses and the captain’s voice to refer to. Each and every day, a new piece of information comes in that fits into this massive canvas, making it clearer and more tragic everyday. Fragments of it, which on their own should sound the alarm bells, I feed to politicians but how am to present the whole piece to those who have ears to hear and eyes to see? For it is the whole picture, that touches on every area of our lives, that needs not just to be seen but understood and responded too – quickly whilst we have yet the daytime.

  6. Thanks David

We feel for you and other concerned and godly Brits in a godless and rotten UK. However, things are just about as bad here in Australia, and in America. Canada and New Zealand and Holland may be just as bad as the UK. So it is a matter of degree: the entire Western world is in deep decline.

The only good thing we can say about the UK is that it serves as an example – albeit a negative example. At least other peoples and nations can point to it and say, “How awful. We must not go down that path.” Perhaps as pictures of lungs ravaged by tobacco, the cancerous UK may serve as a warning and deterrent to others.

If not, the West really is in big trouble. But of course there is one last hope which is the greatest hope. Christ came to transform individuals, and indirectly, nations. He has done it before and he can do it again. It’s just that the West might have to go through a new dark age before it comes back into the light.

  7. Yes, Bill, I think that secularism has already run its course, it is a spent force and Britain will be offered only two choices, life or death, the Ten Commandments or Shariah.

Returning to your article, why would anyone in their right mind have their name put on the birth certificate of a child that was not theirs when those feckless fools, who offer sperm, ovaries, wombs, saucepans and kitchen cabinets, are already being pursued through the courts for maintenance payments?

  8. Is it just a coincidence that the UK is both at the forefront of the cultural suicide of the West, and the home of Charles Darwin and his ideas? It is also the land where the church first capitulated to Darwin and his contemporaries on the twin issues of evolution and the age of the earth (specifically uniformitarian geology). When the church abandons belief in God’s Word, what hope does the nation have?

    Ewan McDonald.

  9. Arrgh. Anyone heard of imprecatory prayer? There were times when David thought it necessary in the psalms, maybe to save the generations in places like Britain the time has come for God’s sorting out of of all the godless rubbish that passes as culture these days.

Truly staggering. “claiming themselves to be wise they became fools.” (Romans 1:22)

    Phil Twiss

  10. Was it once said of a 3 child family; ‘one to replace yourself, one to replace your partner and one for merry old England’. Now, no matter how many children you have, the State will lay claim to them all. You have no rights as parent other than what the State gives you. Woe to those who do something different.
    Are any of us safe?

  11. Check out the book The Abolition of Britain: From Winston Churchill to Princess Diana by Peter Hitchens, the sane brother of misotheist Christopher.

Hitchens says that at one time, kids were taught history that more-or-less fairly stated the good and bad things in British history, i.e. warts and all. But more modern course just give the warts. Much the same apparently happens in American schools, where leftist teachers spout on about how GWB is the real terrorist, and in Australia where we are painted as a racist society — despite voting non-Caucasians as “Australian Idol” and cheering the Chinese mayor of Melbourne at the Commonwealth Games.

How many British kids learn that the Westminster System of government has been successfully exported to many parts of the world that now enjoy the most freedom and prosperity? There is an apocryphal account of a refugee from an Eastern European state wanting to emigrate only to a Commonwe. Maybe the American system is better, maybe not, but that seems unique to the USA, while Australia, New Zealand and Canada have the Westminster System. Also, how many are informed that while slavery was all around the world, Britain abolished it without a civil war, and also used the gunboats of its mighty navy to intercept slave ships? Nowadays this would be condemned as “British imperialism” “imposing her morality on others”.

The British William Sleeman also demolished the murderous Thugee cult in India, and Sir Charles Napier, the British Commander-in-chief in India from 1849 to 1851, replied to a devotee of Sati in a way that would slap around modern cultural and moral relativists:

“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”

    Hitchens covers:

Why the Left always gets the traditional family squarely in its sights — and two early signs of the assault on the family in Britain

History: why the British Left went after Britain’s glorious past with particular ferocity

Kindness, tolerance, and generosity: how and why these became some of British leftists’ most potent weapons of deception

How, under the guise of combating racism, British thought police banished national pride from textbooks

The Church: how a venerable and reverent tradition was thrown out in the guise of a stealthy reform that nobody thought was needed

How the great British writers became anathema to British teachers and schoolchildren

Why, instead of debating conservative opponents, liberals habitually mock and sneer at their positions

    Jonathan Sarfati, Brisbane

  12. My father is 82 years old, my dearest friend and greatest role-model. How sad I feel for those who will and who are encouraged to grow up without a father. Fathers are the most loving and solid people we could ever hope to find. Fathers build the greatest families; why would we ever want to replace them? Dads are really great!
    Jane Byrne

  13. Bill,
I was mortified on reading this article. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry – I felt like doing both: to laugh at the irrationality of it all, but to cry at the sad reality. How tragic to see the once Great Nation of Britian and all it’s bequeathed to the world, secede from sanity and embrace such moral depravity. It’s Western style Sodom and Gomorrah gone to seed. Britania no longer rules the waves. The waves of liberalism rule Britania and unfortunately much of the Western World.

If Britian and other nation won’t be ruled by Christ, it will be ruled by every other ‘ism’, ‘ology’ and any other demonically inspired twaddle.

Observing Britians woeful demise, conjures up images of the Titanic in it’s death throws with it’s tragic loss of lives. But as with that disaster, there were survivors and rescuers. Our hope is that despite secular/Islamic influences holding sway, through prayer we can go One higher and tough the heart of the One who rules over all and will do ‘far abundantly beyond what we can ask or think’. It’s out of our hands, onto our knees, place it in the hands of God and be prepared to do ‘whatever He says to you to do’. All else is futility. As Jesus said “Without me you can do nothing”. Sadly secular/Islamic Britian is proof of this.

  14. I have seen this for some years that we in the West are ripe for judgment, so it was no surprise this week to receive David Wlikerson’s prophetic warning re the financial meltdown being more than a recession or depression. I’m starting to store non-perishable foods in the back shed. God bless all who put their trust in the God of the Universe.
    Ian Brearley

  15. It scares me that all this goes on and so many of my christian brothers and sisters do not stand up for what is good and pure and right. I guess whenever they have they get branded as intolerant and have swallowed the lie in our culture that says we must tolerate all, which in the end leads to intolerance anyway. Thanks Bill for bringing this to light, I am glad that you take the time to bring news to us that is extremely relevant.
    Keith Jarrett

  16. It seems we feel that Christians are not standing up for their faith. I believe most do, it’s just that the world is sick and tired of having the flag of Christ waved in its face. The world blames Christians for all it’s problems, from every war to every social problem. The Church is seen as a ‘kill joy’ trying to suffocate the immoral secular way of life. It is not seen as the moral glue holding communities of this country together. Where are our children?
Sunday schools and church youth groups have faded away fast. This is not just because the world has swayed them in its direction but because Christian parents are allowing their children to swayed. It hurts when a young family stops going to church all together because basketbaal, footbaal, cricket, sunday shopping and outings are more important than going to Church. If we are going to make a stand in the future it is through are children. Most youth groups and Sunday schools fail because of lack of commitment of Church members. Personally experienced this a few times. Get behind our future and encourage them in what ever way you can so that being a Christian in the community will be the normal thing again.

  17. In the first 400 or so years after Christ and His apostles made their mark in the Holy Land many good Christains were involved in bloody and prison persecutions throughout Europe including Ireland and England. This was meant to happen as part of speading and building the Church amongst many great evils. This led the path to large parts of the world knowing Christ. I believe and hope that through the many persecutions of Christains today, even though blood is rarely shed, that this great love for Christ will grow in both the east and west. Maybe it’s already happening in some places of Africa and elsewhere.

    Stefan Pittari

  18. David,
In picking up on the “killjoy” part of what you say, we all need to see more clearly and express that God’s way, through Jesus, is the healthy, fun, fulfilling, rewarding way in society and personally.
I think that’s what Bill and others bring out in this blog, is that the Bible is not a list of do’s and don’ts, but a way of wholesomeness for society and that every other way gets off track and becomes damaging–the killjoy ways.

    Rebecca Field

  19. Rebecca,
Please forgive me, my intention was not to suggest that the Church is a kill joy. I agree with what you say. It just the world’s perspective of Christians. When witnessing to others in the past, the Church is often ridiculed in such a manner. The Church is seen as too restrictive by worldly minded people who have no desire to be bound by rules and regulations which bring about joy in the life of every Christian. Any wonder why there are problems with these people having the balance of power in the decision making in the world.
    David Visser

  20. Isn’t it time Christians say enough is enough?

Sadly many Christian leaders read the paper, watch TV … and preach a message of defend the hopeless and fight such absurd evil as this. But how many will pick up a pen or get on TV to say enough is enough etc … count them on a single hand.

Why, what are their reasons? Generally, perhaps it’s their lack luster approach, vengeance is God’s job, passionate about their church programs, don’t say anything bad to anyone (no matter what), too scared to rock the public boat. Jesus had balls … I’d love to see just 20 of Australia’s & UK top Ministers get in the media and start saying enough. Instead of the media calling the same old Catholic spokesman who has to talk about everything by himself. The media would never say … NO … we don’t want to talk to a pastor with 1000’s of sheep in the church.

If the shepards won’t do it (lead by example as in the Word) … how odd for them to ask the flock to do it. Shepards should be public figures … there is plenty to rock the public boat about, but still they’re too afraid to get in the boat, let alone out of it in a public faith walk.

Perhaps sheep need to flock to those who do, rather than talk. Who’s pastor has been on TV, radio or in the media of late defending anything?

    Tony Clark

  21. David,
I understand what you are saying and that we are on the same page. My post was to you, but to any secular person who might want to take note.
God’s way is the beautiful way. His plan was all for beauty and bounty within joyful guidelines and He gives us the power to do it, which we don’t have in ourselves. Because Jesus way is often the harder way, that adds the spicy challenge to life, without having to test out all the hurtful ways to get a kick.
