Here is a mathematical formula you can count on: the more that evil and immorality and idolatry triumph in a land, the more the attack on Christianity will ramp up. We basically have an inverse ratio going on here: as a culture becomes more ungodly, more immoral and more decadent, the more persecution of Christians we will see.
And there is a very simple and very biblical reason for this. The world loves the darkness and hates the light. The world hates God and it hates his people. As the world gets further and further away from God, its hatred will increase, and they will take their rage out on Christians.
The Bible is quite clear about this. Simply running with three passages from the Gospel of John spells this out perfectly:
John 3:19-20 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.
John 15:18-19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
John 17:14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
There you have it: the world loves sin and unrighteousness and it hates God and righteousness. Therefore it especially hated Christ. And because we are Christ’s followers, we can expect exactly the same treatment. As John MacArthur put it, “The more like Christ you are the more the world will treat you like they treated Christ.”
Most Christians talk about wanting to be more like Christ. And well they should. But do they realise that if this is what they really want, then they can expect to get the same treatment that Jesus got? It goes with the territory: the more Christlike you are, the more persecution you will encounter. Guaranteed.
And all around the West we see the moral, spiritual and social decay and ruin getting worse by the day. Ungodliness and immorality abound, so that those who stand true for God and his values are increasingly coming under attack. Whether you are standing up for the unborn or the institution of marriage, you will be getting opposition – big time.
As George Orwell once said, “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” I have documented countless cases of this over the years. The anti-truth and anti-Christian bigotry keeps escalating. And so too does the evil and perversion. And our children are especially in the crosshairs. Consider just one recent development in all this.
Hardly anyone had heard of drag queens reading to children in public libraries a few years ago. But now we see this happening everywhere. There has been an explosion of this of late. Last year I wrote a piece about this worrying trend. As I said in the article:
Homosexuals cannot reproduce – they can only recruit. Therefore, seeking to drag children into their sordid lifestyle has always been a big part of the way they operate. This has been going on for decades now, and is getting worse. . . . So anything they can do to get access to our children they will try. And lately they have been pushing a new tactic: having drag queens come into public libraries and read stories to very young kids. That is just another way to soften them up and to seek to normalise the lifestyle of the militants.

But it keeps getting worse, as does the anti-Christian persecution. Consider this shocker of a news item from today:
A Baptist pastor was arrested on Saturday after refusing to move across the street from the Spokane, Washington Public Library while exercising his free speech against a “Drag Queen Story Hour.” The event had a significant militaristic police presence, including camouflaged snipers positioned atop the roof to oversee the large crowd that stood both for and against the men dressed like women reading stories to children.
Afhsin Yaghtin of New Covenant Baptist Church was arrested for obstructing an officer as he contended with police that the South Hill Library is public property and that he should be able to speak adjacent to the facility instead of being required to stand across the street. Video footage posted to social media shows police telling Yaghtin that if he does not support the event, he needs to stand on the other side of the street, away from the library.
“So, I can stand right here,” Yaghtin states to one officer. “No, you are going to need to go across the street,” the officer replies. Yaghtin then speaks to another officer, and is again told to stand across the street. He asserts that the library should be considered public property as the event is solely in one room. “This is a public library. The only event that they’ve reserved is a private room,” Yaghtin argued. “The rest of the library is U.S. property. … I have the right to free speech wherever I want to speak.”
He was soon taken into custody and charged with obstructing the police, or as reports state, “trying to enter the non-designated protest area.” Yaghtin has since been released. According to The Spokesman-Review, an estimated 40 police officers were stationed outside of the library.

Wow, things are spiralling out of control real fast! So now we have small armies of police defending perversion and decadence at all costs, while targeting any concerned citizens and Christians who dare to stand for righteousness and seek to protect our vulnerable children.
If this does not perfectly illustrate what I have been talking about in this piece, I am not sure what would. And yet I just had a guy on the social media claiming that this is not how Christians should act, that it only causes strife and division, and that we should just pray instead. To which I replied:

The simple truth is this: it sure isn’t our side that is causing the strife and division. The other side has declared an all-out war on everything that we believe in and value so dearly. I for one will not just sit by and allow this to happen. I especially will not sit by when our children are under direct assault by the sexual militants. No Christian should sit back and do nothing.
Wakey, wakey: There is a war going on folks. And as the world gets increasingly ungodly, immoral and diabolical, we Christians who really love the Lord and seek to stay true to him and his Word will feel the brunt of the world’s rage and anger. Which side will you be on?

I’m sure that such deviant practices caused God to send the flood and for the Canaanites to be destroyed. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated for evert.
I don’t think Christian’s should be meek and silent about this. We are citizens too and have the same right to freedom of speech. There were many strong WARRIORS in the Bible from Joshua to David and Jude in the New testament was strong and outspoken about straying from the truth that Jesus taught warning the people and exhorting them to get back on the right path. I think it is our duty as Christian’s to stand up loudly against this perversion that is spreading like cancer in our society. If we don’t who else will? It is our duty to be the light in the darkness of this world. It should be rebuked!

Yet here we are in 2019, 100’s of 1000’s showing up for cricket tests, football, horse racing, but we, the body of Christ, cannot get up off our rear ends and march against this demonic move against our children. In unity there is strength. We have the power and authority to stand. I’m up for it. Can you imagine the effect of over a million Christians marching on Canberra? Media cannot ignore that, neither can the local, state or federal governments. Do we love Christ enough to stand up in His name to do that?

Reading Stuart Piggins’ great book “The Fountain of Public Prosperity” Australia was made great in terms of social freedoms based on righteousness by the dedication of Bible believing Christians by and large. In 1902 at least 24,000 people were brought to faith in Christ in missions – with the moral stability that normally brings – funded across regional NSW by an individual (in Sydney?) (the Melbourne crime level dropped after Billy Graham preached to thousands there 1959). Someone in The West Australian mentioned Margaret Courts’ call to prayer and fasting as part of the LNPs’ miracle victory. I am saying that Bills’ and other valued ministries should goad all true Christians to unite as one – as God has made us one in Christ – to storm the Throne of Grace for the restoration of bold Biblical public proclamation of the Word of Christ again. Proverbs 29:18 in both AV and NIV tells us we are in desperate need of seeing as GOD sees us and responding in faith as did the disciples in Acts 4:24 following. We may yet see great days of the Son of Man (Whitefield). Every generation God has supplied His prophetic witness and we no less. How beautiful the feet of them that say to Zion “Your God reigns!”

Sue Murphy, most people go to sporting events in cities where they live. Getting a million people to Canberra would be very difficult logistically, because it is so far from where most people live. In most countries the majority of people live in or near the capital city. Hong Kong is not a large place, so it is easy to get everyone out on the streets. People from Perth and Brisbane and even Adelaide would have to travel for days on buses and need accommodation when they get there, And the pollies might not even be there on the day. If you find out something like this is happening in your area, get everyone you know, including non-Christians who are not happy with that, to ring the library or other offending place, write letters and emails in large numbers and to the local council. Flood them with communications, no-one can call the police on you for that! And it will get their attention because it will make life difficult in their offices.
I note that Jesus did not sit meek and silent when the money changers turned His Fathers house into a den of thieves.
Neither should we sit meek and silent when we see our Christian values run rough shod over, whether it be Christ haters, police, politicians or whatever.
Dear Bill, I remember watching a report by ABC journalist Kel Richards on the Christian march on Canberra. I think when the new parliament house opened. 40,000 people took part from memory. I remember as a man from my home town, who also attended the same school as me was interviewed, he rode his horse to Canberra.

Yes Bill, but I have faith…. And John, I am Australian, which is the country that God has deemed I should be born in. I will continue to fight for it , pray for the people here, vote, cry over it and be glad in it. The values and direction of Australia are part of my calling as a Christian, to fight the good fight. The Holy Spirit guides, leads and wants us to watch over the land… Maybe not caring about our country, has brought us to where we are today. We are called to be in the world, not of it…we must, we have to fight..

I am not an Anabaptist, so I DO think Christians have a role to play with the state, with politics, etc. Sure, unchecked nationalism can become an idol, but that is not what I am talking about here. When Jesus said we should render to Caesar what was his, he meant that government and the state are God-given institutions that have a role to play, and we should respect that. He did NOT mean that they were separate parts of life that Christians should have nothing to do with. Quite the contrary, the lordship of Christ should extend to every area of life, including politics and the like.
One cannot really claim to be concerned about faith, family, and freedom without also being concerned about ones’ country. All these things are social goods that do not exist in a vacuum. It is within actual countries that we see these goods either promoted and celebrated, or attacked and stymied.
So it is impossible to want to protect freedom for example, without also being concerned about and involved with the country we live in. And of course this is all quite biblical. Not only did Jesus command us to be salt and light (and that cannot occur in a vacuum), but we have so many other verses about this as well. Here are just three:
Proverbs 11:10 When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Jeremiah 29:7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
We are to be concerned about the country we live in and seek its welfare, so that these other goods can flourish. So yes, properly understood, a true Christian WILL stand for country, just as they stand for these other important things. But thanks for your thoughts.
