Daring To Be a Daniel (In Victoriastan)

Political prisoner Paul Furlong needs our support:

Melbourne Pastor Paul Furlong has just been released from jail after serving nearly three weeks for the unspeakable crime in Victoria of daring to hold church services. For that he was whisked away by a group of armed police, denied basic rights (even denied having a Bible for a week), and treated just like your garden variety axe murderer.

Paul is pastor at the Revival Gospel Healing Ministries church in Narre Warren, and has dared to defy Big Brother statists by putting the worship of God ahead of their ludicrous and senseless draconian lockdowns – the fourth one Victoria has now had.

Monica Smit of Reignite Democracy Australia was there when he was finally released. Her report makes for scary reading indeed:

I can confirm that he was granted bail today.

I attended the hearing and was shocked to hear the criminal terms being used on such a pious and honourable man. Pastor Paul is a charity worker and man of God. He’s been married for over 30 years, has 3 children, a business and has saved hundreds of children from sex-trafficking and poverty. If he is a criminal for exercising his freedom of speech, religion, and assembly…Australia is going down a dangerous path.

The prosecutor was Senior Sergeant Luke Holmes who appeared via webcam wearing a mask alone in a closed room. The most surprising thing he did was attempting to add a bail condition that Pastor Paul be restricted from communicating with myself (Monica Smit) and Nick Patterson, leader of PeaceMakers. The judge declined that condition promptly.

The Pastor is not allowed to communicate via social media whatsoever. His wife, Julie, had to give what’s called ‘an assurity’ of $15,000, which she says is coming out of their personal savings. This means she must help to ensure that Paul doesn’t break his bail conditions. She is obliged to report him to the police or risk losing their savings.

Luke Holmes said more than 5 times that the Pastor is very dogmatic in his views, He explained, “Mr Furlong holds his beliefs very strongly, which is a concern for us”. It seems that Paul’s courage of conviction is threatening to the Sergeant.

Are citizens with strong views a danger to society? Or are they a danger to the establishment? I’ll let you decide.

Luke Holmes seemed very unnerved with this particular statement the Pastor said online a few times…“I will obey God over man”. Luke continued to say, “holding mass gatherings puts the entire country at risk” and he justifies the police response by saying their actions were to protect the public.

Luke Holmes also attempted to discredit Paul by mocking his use of common law, his tone was mocking and belittling.

The judge called on Paul’s wife, Julie who is a primary school teacher. You could see the struggle on her face. Being away from her loving husband for well over 2 weeks has clearly taken a toll on the family. She was asked by the judge “Do you share the same beliefs as your husband when it comes to COVID restrictions?”. Julie took many moments to answer, she said “I am a law-abiding citizen…I believe in the same bible my husband does”. https://www.reignitedemocracyaustralia.com.au/paul-hearing/

There you have it folks: if you are a biblical Christian who strongly holds to your beliefs, you are a major threat to the State, and you will be targeted. In the People’s Republik of Victoriastan under Dan Andrews, we have common criminals and youth gangs running amok, but if you dare to believe the Bible and stay true to it, you WILL be arrested and locked up – to keep us all safe, presumably.

Thanks Dan. It is so reassuring to know that you have our backs covered. Rebel News has also been covering this story, and Avi Yemini spoke to Paul after his release:

After spending 17 days in jail, with most of that time in solitary confinement, Pastor Paul walked out of the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall, Victoria, last night and into the arms of his loving wife. Pastor Paul was initially taken into custody on May 29 for allegedly “inciting” church in Narre Warren during the latest Melbourne lockdown.

During their search for the pastor, police raided three of his family members’ homes before finally locating and arresting Pastor Paul at his business. I waited all evening outside of the jail to greet Pastor Paul upon his release. The pastor was surprisingly optimistic about his time in captivity and was quick to forgive his jailers.

Even though he had his Bible confiscated, he did have an opportunity to sing and minister to his fellow inmates before being released.  Since initially breaking his story, the community has helped us crowdfund a top-rate legal team to get Pastor Paul out.

Thank you for making that possible. But there’s still a long road ahead. We’ve already spent thousands of dollars to get to this point, and this was just the first of many legal battles to come for Pastor Paul. The government has no plans on letting up, and we don’t either.

Thankfully some others have been concerned about all the deplorable things happening in Victoria. Alan Jones on Sky News for example has long been calling out the Dictator of Victoria and his totalitarian power grabs, and he has also spoken a number of times about the plight of Furlong. Last night for example he discussed both cases once again. You can see his interview with Monica Smit of Reignite Democracy here: https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_6259116683001

He says he plans to have Paul on his show in the near future, so stay tuned.

The Liberal Party and Christians

I could speak of plenty of other examples of anti-Christian bigotry and discrimination occurring right now in Australia, but let me briefly mention just one more, this one having to do with the Liberal Party in South Australia. It seems the good Libs there have a bad case of Christophobia. Here is how a report in yesterday’s Australian begins with the story:

Conservative South Australian Liberal MPs have urged Josh Frydenberg to intervene in the state branch after venting outrage that hundreds of Pentecostal Christians had been forced out of the party. Nicolle Flint, Tony Pasin and Alex Antic lashed out at the moderate-dominated state branch in a meeting of federal Liberal MPs on Tuesday, after 150 conservative members were terminated and a further 400 members asked to “show cause” as to why they should not be kicked out.

In what was described as a “robust discussion”, the conservative MPs called on the Treasurer — the acting Liberal leader while Scott Morrison is overseas — to intervene in the state branch “as a matter of urgency”, according to sources in the meeting.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham, a leading SA moderate, is claiming the suspended members were planning to “campaign against endorsed candidates at the next election” and some did not support the Liberal Party. Conservative MPs reject this and say no evidence has been provided to support the claim. They say it is a “power grab” by the moderate faction to maintain its control of the branch. Ms Flint, the member for Boothby, told the meeting it was the most “extraordinary and undemocratic decision I’ve seen in my time in Liberal Party”.

She said the requirement for members to sign statutory declarations pledging their loyalty was “offensive to our founding principles, especially free speech and democracy”, according to MPs. Mr Pasin said he joined parliament to defend freedom of religion and “I never thought I’d have to take up the fight within the Liberal Party”. “The message to Christians coming out of the Liberal Party in South Australia is clear: ‘You are not welcome,’” he told MPs.

That’s the current Liberal Party for you today. Homosexuals are of course fully welcome, as are Muslims and atheists – but if you happen to be a biblical Christian, it seems you are VERBOTEN from coming anywhere near the Party. I wrote about this worrying trend with the Libs last month, where I noted that true conservatives and true Christians are becoming threatened species in the Liberal Party: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2021/05/02/scomo-and-the-libs-reality-needs-to-match-the-rhetoric/

Please keep Paul Furlong in your prayers. He is a Daniel living in the midst of far too many Christian cowards who would never dare rock the system, but just blindly go along with whatever our Statist overlords decree. Paul is a champion, and his arduous journey is not over yet.

  1. Yes, he is a champ.

If that officer is so strung out over Pastor Paul’s views, it makes you wonder what claptrap is being said by commanders to rank and file officers about Christians?

    Truly cause for concern.

  2. Hey Bill – Thank you. What A MIGHTY Man of God Paul Furlong is.
How the Angels are Praising & Glorifying God!

I was blessed to be able to pray for Pastor Paul with 3 pastors & 2 laypeople of my church this morning on our weekly zoom prayer meeting (there was MUCH silence after my petition) – My Prayer NOW is – Our Church will follow Pastor Paul’s Lead….

Hmmm – Without saying too much (as I am being as wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove) there is a time and a place and I waiting on God to give me the directive as necessary – We so need to STOP bowing to ‘unlawful’ Gov directives/requirements/mandates.

Love your work, as always & especially LOVE Reignite Democracy – to quote YOU – What Champions!

  3. I’ve known Paul Furlong for many years, and for all that time I’ve been of the opinion that it’s his wife who most needs our support. Despite being the father of three young children, Paul frequently spent time overseas, leaving his wife and children at home in Australia. Some years back I remember thinking that this situation was far from ideal, despite the fact that his wife never complained. I’m sure that she is the one who deserves a gold medal for her patience and support.

  4. Thanks Elizabeth. I too know Paul. I would like to think that they both have agreed to Paul’s many travels. Sure, that often can be tough on the spouse and children left behind, but in my books they are both champions and they both need our prayers.

  5. Thank you Bill for the update. Thank God for what Rebel News is doing for us here in Australia as well as Canada. It seems they are the defacto mouth piece for Bible believing Christians at the moment. Certainly my own part of the Body, The Anglican Church, is very silent on such matters other than doing its best to appease “those that must be obeyed”. Oh, what a rapid decline we have seen since the “acceptance” of Sodomite “marriage” in most of the western world. It seems that was the point at which the Marxists (satanists) decided “well, if we can get them to agree to accepting that we can get them to accept anything and everything”. I’m fearfull it may have also been the point at which the good Lord wiped His hands of our society. Here in Tassie our Churches abide strictly by the QR Codes for fear of a possible 6 months imprisonment and/or up to $ 17,200 fine. Mean while you can basically go into any other so-called “business” without any problem. Sadly, my own family has not been fellowshipping since the introduction of the code. I guess we each have our own “crossed the line moment” and to us having to get permission from Caesar to enter our church and fellowship was a line we could not cross. I believe very soon the line with be the requirement to be vaccinated before you are allowed by Caesar to gather to fellowship. Sad but exciting days ahead. The opporunity to spread the Gospel to those that now have “ears to hear” is rapidly increasing. People that were closed to hearing the Good News are now beginning to question in light of what is happening. As we all know, the Good Lord is the only one that can provide the answers to those questions.

  6. “She was asked by the judge “Do you share the same beliefs as your husband when it comes to COVID restrictions?”. Julie took many moments to answer, she said “I am a law-abiding citizen…I believe in the same bible my husband does”.

Wow! I could almost imagine the Lord smiling and saying to Himself “Good and faithful servant”. What a Holy Ghost inspired answer that was. Seems the Judge tried to put our Sister to the test just like the Pharisees when they put Jesus to the test. Again wow!

  7. Having watched the plight of the Victorians for well over are year now, and as are member of the Stop the sale of Victoria and Reignite I have watched and prayed for them all, including yourself Bill by staying in contact through your articles. I have felt your anger, frustration and hopelessness too. It is at these moments that I feel closest to God and I truly know what it means when we are all one in Christ. It has angered me because Western Australian’s are still like frogs floating around in warm water totally oblivious to what is transpiring over there in Victoria. I have watched everything that has happened over in Victoria from the first protests to the last most recent. The protests have always been peaceful but what was disturbing was the police. Many have become like sub humans and some even very aggressive and enjoying it. Yet I see others that hate what they are forced to do, and I pray for them too. This has certainly been are wakeup call for the Victorians, but unfortunately Western Australians have not got are clue because nothing is heard over the media and Mark McGowan is playing his cards very close to his chest. I too get angry, frustrated and in the beginning had this feeling of total hopelessness, and not being able to do anything except maybe voice it out on your page. So now to see Pastor Furlong take are stand as he has done is truly are witness for those who follow Christ. I have seen the effect it has had on those like Morgan, Monica, Ali and others who have been fighting the good fight. It has touched their hearts. OH WHAT ARE WITNESS both he and his small church are for Christ. To see Pastor Furlong’s church do are service in the Park after his arrest was are sight to behold. Watching the police surround them as they prayed are passage from scripture we all know so well. “As I walk through the valley of death” melted my heart and I truly felt like I was at one with them at that moment. There is no doubt that we are in the last days, but remember we have are merciful God, are forgiving God that says that if we repent of our sins he will heal our lands. He is talking to us, his church. The Lord has shown me that those who call ourselves his have failed the nation that he has put us in charge of. The salt now has lost its flavor and ready to be trampled on. The people of this nation have for the most part lost respect for us and honestly I don’t blame them. I have witnessed through messages on the internet people crying out for God’s Church. Why because we represent Christ on earth, well we are suppose to. So we all now have an opportunity to redeem ourselves and I pray that Pastor Furlong is the first of many of our Lord’s people who will take are stand for truth, justice and righteous. Now is our time to shine and take back what is rightfully our inheritance, our nation, the one that our forefathers established and that our Lord is coming back for. The nations do not belong to man, they belong to God and we are the keepers and without Jesus as our King and Savior there would be no hope at all. When our Lord’s true church makes a stand united with repentance in their hearts, then the harvest will surely come in because as they watch the power of God working through his chosen then the people of this nation will be ripe for the picking.

  8. It’s a tremendous shame that Cory Bernardi’s ‘Australian Conservatives’ didn’t gain traction – though Cory is doing a masterful job now in his current role as Sky presenter! A must watch every week!

The focus and energy of conservatives now needs to get behind Monica Smit of the fledgling Reignite Democracy Party, and also the Christian Democratic Party, of which Lyle Shelton is about to take the helm, remembering always that each one of us will need to give account to God of our stewardship of the giftings, opportunities and responsibilities that He has entrusted us with.

As Bill has expressed in various ways recently, Jesus was no wooz! Jesus was a man’s man who spent his time with burly fishermen. He was an iron fist in a velvet glove. And so must we be also, as ambassadors for our King – wise as serpents, gentle as doves.

Dictator Dan is high on the anticipation of the Great Reset of our world to global communism – however he has a big shock coming because good is going to prevail. God wins!

Our Lord warned His people: “If the world hates you, remember that it hated Me first.” (John 15;18)

His Word encourages us to remember always that “Greater is He that is in you, than he who is in the world!” (1 John 4:4)

And our mandate as God’s people, in the words of Colin Buchanan’s wonderful children’s song, is to:

“Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you!” (Joshua 1:9)

Saints, “Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.” (Galatians 6:9)

Together may we all faithfully pray!

  9. Thank you Bill for writing that article. I have donated to helping Pastor Paul via Rebel News, I support him & his work 100%

  10. Pastor Paul reminds me of the Apostle Paul in the Bible. Instead of 39 strips across his back he has gotten a personal $15,000 fine to pay but also media attention on Alan Jones’s show showing that his charity rescues victims from sex abuse. Maybe he was able to witness to others in jail like Paul and Barnabas did. It was the Roman government/soldiers of the day that were used by the Jewish rulers to imprison the Apostle Paul, so now we have police operating like the Roman soldiers with the medical rulers dictating or giving the rules.

  11. Many if not most Pastors seem to have gone weak at the knees when it comes to speaking out. Understandably they may not want to be political. I get that. But we need leaders who hear from God. And having done so to lead. The time may well come when we will need to be prepared to pay a big price for our faith. But I don’t think this is the time. One of my heroes is Dietrich Bonhoeffer. There were many others of his ilk. But let’s tread carefully and more importantly prayerfully. There is merit in keeping our powder dry.

  12. Looking on as an outsider I see Victoria as our most Godless state, run by an extreme leftist government and supported by the majority of Victorians. But in their continual struggle for stupidity I notice this state is continually in the past and present being cursed by very very inclement weather and fire storms not seen in any other state and which I believe is punishment from the great God to turn this state back to his laws and statutes. I have little faith that Victoria will come in from the cold and maybe like Lot it is time to move on and not become a victim of its radical ideology or share in the corrective punishment by our Creator.

  13. I don’t totally disagree with you, but over here in Western Australia we have picked up are predominately Labor Government too, so we too may go down the same path unless we change our ways. However what really made me wake up was when are local market that I have attended for over 20 years decided to celebrate the Chinese New Year instead of Australia Day. It was the year of the bat, oh sorry I meant rat, and that is when the virus hit. Rats are well know for plagues, right? Melbourne has been celebrating two New Years a lot longer than we have. I found it interesting when I was told by the market supervisor that the dragon dance (where the dragon would be flowing in and around our stores) is when the dragon inhales the bad spirits and exhales the good ones (or something like that) and is suppose to bring you good luck. Well needless to say this market that was once are thriving and lively market is now close to death. Clearly the dragon has brought no luck to the Chinese peoples, so why on earth have we allow it to be exported over to here, are country that once proudly called itself Christian. Oh and I also discovered who actually sets up these Dragon Dances and they make very generous donations too. Where there is are spiritual vacuum you can expect that something else will fill it. I have since looked up the meaning of the Dragon Dance which many Australians and our Premiers formerly attend and cheer on, especially Daniel Andrews. There is are spiritual significance behind that dance, and you will find it if you delve further into it origins. We have allowed the Dragon Spirit to lay claim over our lands and all the while what are we doing? Fighting over what day Australia Day should be on. While Monica and the others are doing are great job in fighting the good fight in the natural, only our Lord’s true church can fight in the spiritual. I pray that they wake up to this soon.

  14. Maybe not too off-topic the way things are going here in Victoria ;-( , but John Anderson’s latest conversation has to be one of his most important – it is with a lady who escaped from North Korea via China, and gives a chilling insight into what life under ‘hard-core’ Socialism-Marxism is like.
    See: https://johnanderson.net.au/yeonmi-park/

  15. It’s a world wide thing. It’s another sign of the end times. The bible says and warns that in the end times there would be an increase in Christian persecution. This is one of the many signs that we are getting to the end. Jesus is coming back very soon. Hallelujah amen.

  16. “‘an assurity’” is actually “a surety” legally similar to a guarantee (such as with a loan) to ensure that Paul will observe his bail conditions and answer the bail (ie. present himself in court) when the case returns to court.

My wife taught this man in secondary school and although we have lost contact with the family over time, we still hold them in high regard as Godly people.

Bill where is the crowd-funding link? Or is there already sufficient finance to support the legal defence?

  17. VICTORIASTAN

It’s just as well you don’t serve in the modern British Army, Bill, because you would be in serious bother with your little suffix added on to VICTORIA!

Apparently the “ISTAN” suffix is one of twenty pointers to what the modern British Army calls “XRW” or Extreme Right Wing indicators and warnings. Serving soldiers are encouraged to report any personnel adding that suffix to British place names to WARP – the Army Warning, Advisory and Reporting Point. Among other things, the leaflet says XRW groups are openly racist, Anti-Semitic, Anti-Islam and homophobic; they generally take their inspiration from Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. Correct me if I am wildly wrong here, but did the British Army not play a major role in defeating Hitler and the Nazi regime?

It seems particularly inappropriate in your case with the name Victoria. What could be more steadfastly British than that!

Meanwhile, there are several “istan” places in modern Britain where English is no longer the main language spoken!

By the way, in the second world war, the newly formed Parachute Regiment – the finest fighting soldiers in the British Army – used the term WAHO MOHAMMED as a battle cry when valiantly fighting the Nazis. The cry was copied from Arab desert tribesmen in North Africa who used that expression at the beginning of each shouted message they used to communicate with each other.

I’ve got a strong feeling that that battle cry is no more – no doubt the mere mention of Mohammed is one of the modern XRW trigger words – along with Allah, Islam or Muslims.

Perhaps the modern British Army is preoccupied with establishing the Caliphate as part of their NATO peace-keeping role in Kosovo or the likes.
