On Muslim Prayer Broadcasts
We need to be aware of what is really happening here:
Go to any Islamic country and you will hear loudly and clearly the adhan, the call to prayer. The word means “announcement,” and it is heard five times a day. It is usually broadcast from the minaret of a mosque. In part, it is meant to remind Muslims to pray. But there is much more to it.
And increasingly these are now being heard in many Western cities. And it usually is not some soft and gentle broadcast, but a quite loud, perhaps annoying, call being blasted out by the use of loudspeakers, PA systems and the like.
Let me mention just some cases of this in Australian cities. It has been occurring in Melbourne for some time now. Consider this from five years ago:
The Islamic call to prayer will ring out from two mosques in Melbourne, Australia, throughout Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting. The municipalities of Hume and Dandenong, both home to large Turkish communities, have allowed the call to prayer, or adhan, to be broadcast for the evening and Friday prayers. https://jihadwatch.org/2020/05/australia-city-of-melbourne-allows-islamic-call-to-prayer-to-be-broadcast-over-loudspeakers-during-ramadan
More recently there were plans for a mosque in Sydney to regularly broadcast the call to prayer.:
Australia’s largest mosque could begin broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer from loudspeakers every week under a proposal lodged with a Sydney council. Lakemba Mosque, also known as the Masjid Ali Bin Abi Talib, has proposed to affix four loudspeakers to its minaret in a new bid to the Canterbury-Bankstown Council in Sydney’s west. It would be the first mosque in Sydney to broadcast the call to prayer – known in Arabic as the adhan – regularly throughout the year. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14582177/lakemba-mosque-prayer-new-plan.html
What the adhan is all about
If you think this is not unlike Christian church bells ringing, you would be greatly mistaken. First of all, you need to know just what is being broadcast. As Islam expert Robert Spencer notes, the adhan, which is prayed in Arabic, goes like this:
Allah is greater (Allahu akbar); intoned four times.
I testify that there is no God but Allah (Ashhadu anna la ila ill Allah); intoned twice.
I testify that Mohammed is Allah’s Prophet (Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah); intoned twice.
Come to prayer (Hayya alas salah); intoned twice.
Come to security/salvation (Hayya alal falah); intoned twice.
Allah is greater (Allahu akbar); intoned twice.
There is no God but Allah (La ilah ill Allah); intoned once.
So it most certainly is about proclaiming the supremacy of Islam, of Allah, and of Muhammad. No words are used in church bell ringing, and they can be used for all sorts of reasons, including to mark the time, to notify people of certain dangers, to announce important events such as weddings, and so on.
But we need an even bigger picture here. This call to prayer comes from the mosque, so it is imperative that we know what the mosque means in Islam. Once again, there is no comparison with Christianity – in this case, with the church. The mosque is much more than just some religious meeting place.
Allow me to quote from an earlier article of mine on this. Back in 2014 I wrote about these differences. I mentioned the important book by a former Muslim, Sam Solomon and E Al Maqdisi: Modern Day Trojan Horse: The Islamic Doctrine of Immigration. I said this in part:
The strategy, as detailed by the authors, is quite clear: set up a beachhead in a non-Muslim nation, consolidate your gains, push for a separate and distinct culture, and work for full rights in terms of separate law systems, finance systems, dietary systems, and so on.
The aim is not to fit in and embrace the values and beliefs of the host culture. The aim is to take over the nation, and foist Islamic values and beliefs on the kaffir (infidel) instead. It is about the establishment of a universal caliphate, and the spread of sharia law throughout the globe.
And the role of immigration is quite crucial here, going all the way back to Muhammad himself. Recall that the migration (Hijra) of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 is the most important event in the Muslim calendar. This initiated the spread of Islam by sword and conquest.
The Hijra “changed the status of Islam as a religion and of the Muslims as a community, transforming them from being a weak people to a powerful political entity … and ultimately into a powerful socio-religious political state.” Thus Islamic migration is still viewed as so very important today.
I went on to say this:
While I recommend that all concerned citizens get a copy of this book, a brief article on the same theme can be offered here. Janet Levy has written a vital piece entitled “A Mosque Is Not Like a Church or a Synagogue”. Discussing the American situation, she writes:
“A mosque is a symbol of this ultimate authority and serves the function of organizing every aspect of life in a Muslim community. Mosques are modeled after the first mosque established by Mohammed in Medina, which was a seat of government, a command center, a court, a school, and a military training center and depot for arms. Mosque leaders today issue religious decrees, enforce Islamic doctrine, monitor conduct, provide training, punish transgressions, and command actions, including the requirement to conduct jihad.” https://billmuehlenberg.com/2014/03/28/the-significance-of-the-mosque/
A few other authorities are worth quoting from here, as they look more particularly at the call to prayer. Five years ago Robert Spencer discussed the BBC airing Muslim prayer broadcasts during Covid. He said:
Dr. Gavin Ashenden, former Chaplain to the British Queen, who resigned his position in protest against a Qur’an reading in a Scottish church, observed that “the Muslim call to prayer is a dramatic piece of Islamic triumphalism. It proclaims Islam’s superiority over all other religions, and in so doing casts Jesus in the role of a charlatan and a liar. The Muslim god, Allah, is unknowable and has no son. Jesus was, therefore, a fraud in claiming He and the Father are one.”
Is the BBC, the government-funded broadcasting agency of an ostensibly Christian land, really wise to broadcast a declaration of the superiority of another faith, one that directs its adherents to make war against Christians and subjugate them as inferiors under the hegemony of believers (cf. Qur’an 9:29)?
Is the BBC wise to broadcast the cry “Allahu akbar,” beloved of jihad terrorists the world over? https://www.frontpagemag.com/allahu-akbar-bbc-broadcasts-islamic-call-prayer-robert-spencer/
Recently Amy Mek, speaking of a Houston, Texas mosque blasting out the adhan, said this:
[It is] a public ritual, not merely of worship, but historically used to signal Islamic territorial and spiritual control over a community. But what most Texans don’t realize – this mosque is named after Umar ibn al-Khattab, Islam’s second Caliph—a figure revered in Islamic tradition for unleashing sweeping military conquests, crushing Christian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian resistance, imposing Sharia law, and forcing non-Muslims to live under second-class status through the jizya tax. This isn’t just religious expression—it is a powerful ideological symbol being projected into American neighborhoods.
Who authorized this? Why are Texans being subjected to the public declaration of an ideology built on conquest and subjugation? Texans deserve transparency. Texans deserve a say. Texans deserve to be protected. This is not simply a call to prayer. It’s a public declaration tied to a historical legacy of Islamic rule, conquest, and forced religious hierarchy. Why is this being normalized in Texas? https://x.com/AmyMek/status/1914180977217442218
And Brother Rachid posted this a few months ago:
Islam is not a spiritual religion; it is a territorial one. Everything is designed to occupy land and subjugate people. When the call to prayer is proclaimed, it is a declaration of control over that space. When they pray in the streets, it is to assert dominance over that area. When they buy churches and convert them into mosques, they are claiming the land as theirs. When they convert people, they are asserting ownership over society. When they preach, they are signaling their intent to one day rule that country. Islam is not about saving you it is about enslaving you. https://x.com/BrotherRasheed/status/1903422516107911186
So for those folks who think we should just be nice to everyone and let Muslims do their thing in the West, they better wake up – and fast. This is not just some pleasant call to some sweet and gentle prayer life – it is a call to war. It really is, ultimately, a call to remove the infidel and replace all of the decadent West with an Islamist state and a universal caliphate.
In this regard, I close with something I was just reminded of. Back in 1996 the film Independence Day appeared. It was about an alien invasion of planet earth. The US President, working with scientists and the military who had captured one of the aliens, was trying to communicate with it. The dialogue goes like this:
President: I know there is much we can learn from each other if we can negotiate a truce. We can find a way to coexist. Can there be a peace between us?
Alien: Peace? No peace.
President: What is it you want us to do?
Alien: Die. Die.
You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAbd8SfSMRo
Those who are clueless about what Islam is and always has been will demur at such a comparison. But for those who know what is really going on, it sounds eerily similar. The aliens wanted extinction, extermination, and the complete takeover of planet earth.
For 1400 years now Islam has demanded three things of non-Muslims: Death, conversion, or dhimmitude. Hmm, not all that dissimilar. The mosque and call to prayer are simply parts of this Islamist package.

Never a truer word spoken Bill. The west is sleepwalking into destruction, what I can’t understand is why everyone can’t see it. You only need to look at countries that have capitulated to islam e.g. Syria and Iran to see what happens. Wake up people before it is too late.
Many thanks Jim.
The “grooming gangs” scandal in the UK shows the rabbit-in-headlights phenomenon. I note the article here: https://christianconcern.com/news/grooming-gangs-more-associated-with-islam-than-ethnicity/
Thanks John.
While there is an undoubted threat to our culture from Islam, how do we put it in the perspective of the Bible?
My understanding is that the true and living God – Jesus wins.
I don’t even see a direct reference to Islam in the Bible. It is just a another sinful action of man in following false gods. I see Islam as a self-destructive ideology, crafted by the evil one himself as a way of taking as many people to hell with him as possible.
How do you see it, Bill? I’m no eschatological expert or theologian of note.
Many thanks Troy. You ask some good questions here, and many others would be wondering similar sorts of things. As such, your comment really deserves a fuller response, so if you do not mind, I will write a full article on this in which I can share some of my thoughts on these matters, and open it up to a larger audience. So stay tuned, and thanks again.
I agree, Bill, Islam is another threat to Australia and we sure don’t want what is happening in UK happening in Australia. I don’t see most of our politicians doing anything about it at the moment so things may have to get worse for people to wake up so best to keep praying for things to change.
If Muslims want to broadcast their prayers over a loud speaker, Christians should be allowed to broadcast Christian prayers over a loud speaker or play some hymns/Christian music. This reminds me of a US soldier who was involved in checking/clearing out Saddam Hussein’s palace back in Iraq conflict, the soldier seen a piano and because no one else was around decided to play a few hymns and I think sing along too unaware that his music was going through the loud speaker for all around to hear.
Thanks Lynette.
And as promised, here is the piece I wrote to interact with Troy’s comment just above:

It is indeed a grave threat to the west but right now the bigger threat is our own governments wanting to force us onto a digital id which will be in effect a digital prison/panopticon. This will begin in December when Albo is forcing masses to have a digital id to log on to Facebook, ..etc. even YouTube which I’m very upset about as I listen to many really there. He’s doing this under the guise of protecting kids under 16 but of course it they really cared about kids they’d ban porn sites first. Have you done any articles about the digital id lately Bill?
Thanks Jeremy. The last piece I did on it was this one: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2024/09/24/big-brother-and-digital-id/
