The mass rapes being played out in Europe right now by Muslim migrants is not surprising if you know much about Islam. Of course the trouble is, most folks do not know much about Islam. Sadly this even goes for Christians, some of whom at least should know better.
I recently posted a short quote by someone else on Islam and rape, and I had various Christians in a bit of a tizzy over it, claiming I was mis-quoting from the Koran. I assured these critics that I (and the person quoted) was doing no such thing. As we chatted, it soon became clear that my critics certainly had no collections of the hadith, nor were they aware of the quality of various translations of the Koran.
I stated that several things must be borne in mind in such a discussion, including the issue of what translation of the Koran one might be using. Islam of course only regards the Arabic Koran to be authoritative, and frowns upon translations. But some English translations are better than others, and we must always be aware that some translations have been toned down or modified for Western consumption.
One also must have access to the use of the hadith and sira, which are also highly authoritative sources of Islamic belief and practice, and must also be taken into account. The commentary on the life and teachings of Muhammad is crucial here, and Islamic jurisprudence puts an extremely high premium on such commentary.
Thus we must make use of the better translations, and we must also utilise the various collections of the hadith and the most authoritative sira (biographies of Muhammad). I discuss these sources in greater detail here: billmuehlenberg.com/2014/11/07/islam-according-to-its-own-sources/
So let me return to the contentious quote, which came from Daniel Greenfield: “Mohammed had told his men that the majority of those condemned to hell are women (Bukhari 2:24:541), that they could rape non-Muslim women (Koran 4:24) and that women who weren’t wearing Hijabs or Burkas were fair game (Koran 33:59). This isn’t an aberration. This is Islam.”
There is nothing amiss in what he said here. Let me just focus on sura 4:24. Context of course is vital, and this sura is about women, as the title makes clear. The preceding verse discusses who the Muslim man is permissible to marry and/or have sex with.
Just as an example, let me offer three translations (based on the three Korans I have), and see how each one offers the phrase in question:
-“Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hand possess”
-“Also married women, except those who you own as slaves”
-“You are also forbidden to take in marriage married women, except captives who you own as slaves”
As can be seen, the three differ slightly, but even so, all three make it clear that sexual rights are granted to Muslim men with their slave girls. And given that not too many captive women would readily consent to such sex, we are talking about forced sex – or rape.
As Robert Spencer notes:
Muhammad allowed for rape – at least in certain circumstances. I have already noted that the Qur’an permits Muslim men to have intercourse with their slave girls as well as their wives. . . . Numerous hadiths make it clear that these slave girls were usually the captives of war. Muhammad himself did not disdain to find wives and consorts this way. After one successful battle, he told one of his fellows, “Go and take any slave girl.”
Or as Egyptian born Nonie Darwish puts it:
In the famous story cited in the previous chapter, which resulted in the Qur’anic verse upon which laws on slave wives would be based, after one battle, “some of the winning Muslim soldiers did not like to rape the captive women in front of their husbands.” The story clearly shows that raping captive women in front of their husbands was a condoned military tactic and there was no punishment for it. Tragically, we have seen the tactic in the Sudan and other contemporary tribal conflicts in Muslim lands. This contradicts Islam’s claim for respect for women.
Indeed, the benefit of having some of the better versions of the sira and hadith is you can read about all this for yourself. You can see in his biographies and in the commentaries how Muhammad did this often, and he is held up as the perfect example for all Muslim men, even today.
Plenty of hadith support for all this could be mentioned. Let me offer just one. Former devout Muslim Mark Gabriel, who used to teach at the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo, offers this example: “It is permissible to have sexual intercourse with a captive woman after she is purified (of menses or delivery). In case she has a husband, her marriage is abrogated after she becomes captive.”
In the sharia manual Reliance of the Traveller by al-Misri we have further confirmation of this: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the women’s previous marriage is immediately annulled” (o9:12).
And if you think this is no longer current teaching, well simply go straight to the horses’ mouth. Consider what contemporary Islamic jurisprudence says about all this. For example, this brief video explains this in depth by a Muslim, for Muslims. The Egyptian professor said this just a year ago – sex slavery is just fine according to Islam: www.facebook.com/14310874716/videos/10153818622454717/?fref=nf
And notice that the whole premise of this short video is about “those whom you own” (slave girls), which of course comes straight out of sura 4:24! Other passages could be mentioned, such as suras 23:1-6 and 70:22-30 which also speak about captive slave girls. And sura 24:33 appeals to the mercies of Allah if a Muslim forces his slave girl into prostitution.
As Darwish noted above, we have rape jihad going on even today. In Andrew McCarthy’s 2010 book, The Grand Jihad he also spoke to this:
Then there is the matter of violent crime, particularly rape, by Muslim immigrants. Rape, the unspoken epidemic of Western Europe, is as much and more about psychological domination as it is about physical gratification. As a violent jihadist tactic, it has long been an infamous weapon in the Sudanese Islamist regime’s genocidal arsenal, used first against Christians and animists in the south in the early Nineties and, more recently, in western Sudan against the Muslims of Darfur, whom Islamists judge to be insufficiently Islamic. Now, with the tide of immigration, jihad by rape has been imported to Europe, where indignation by the politically correct press is predictably reserved not for the perpetrators but for the few journalists willing to report on it.
Thus the recent sexual assaults in Cologne and elsewhere were nothing other than a basic component of Islamic jihad. And each new day new revelations emerge, including the fact that these were indeed coordinated and deliberate attacks:
The German city of Cologne is reeling at revelations a series of hundreds of violent sexual assaults on New Year’s Eve on local women were co-ordinated. Police in the city now say they have recorded more than 500 cases of New Year’s Eve violence. The assaulted have shocked Germany and put a spotlight on the 1.1 million asylum seekers who arrived in the country last year….
The scale of the assault has Justice Minister Heiko Maas convinced the violence in the western city was organised. “For such a horde of people to meet and commit such crimes, it has to have been planned somehow,” he told Bild am Sonntag newspaper. “No one can tell me that this was not co-ordinated or planned. The suspicion is that a specific date and an expected crowd was picked.”
Yes quite so: welcome to the Islamic world of sexual jihad. Andrew McCarthy has just written on the Cologne rape jihad, and is worth concluding this article with:
The participation of Muslim migrants in the rape jihad is, of course, the fact most desperately suppressed by German officials. Mrs. Merkel earned her “Person of the Year” honors from left-leaning relic Time magazine by rolling out the red carpet for a staggering 1.1 million migrants in 2015 — infuriating the German public and spurring the migrant tsunami now washing over neighboring countries. In this information clampdown, the nightmare of the victimized women turns out to be the chancellor’s good fortune: Police on the scene were so outnumbered and outmaneuvered by the assailants that it was physically impossible for them to get near most of the women being savaged, much less make arrests. Most of the perps will never be identified. The media are already using this to cast doubt on migrant culpability. “It was not clear,” the New York Times opaquely explains, “that any of the men involved were among those who arrived in Germany over the past year from conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.” Sure. In southern Germany, after two teenage girls (ages 14 and 15) were raped, police tripped over themselves to announce that the three Syrians arrested were not recently arrived asylum seekers. What a relief.
Nearly 200 women have filed criminal complaints in Cologne, the vast majority charging all manner of sexual assault. There have been few arrests, though, and nearly none involving sex crimes. The Muslim men used a tactic that has escaped the notice of fantasy Islam devotees but is well known to those of us who’ve followed the scant reports on the rape jihad as it has proceeded from Tahrir Square to Malmö to Rotherham: A group of men encircles the targeted woman or girl, trapping her while walling off police and other would-be rescuers. Knowing they are a protected class, the Muslim men have no fear of the cops — “You can’t do anything to me,” and “Mrs. Merkel invited me here,” are just some of the reported taunts. By the time “help” reaches one victim, the assailants have moved on to the next. It is not very effective law enforcement . . . but at least the cops can’t be accused of “Islamophobia,” right?
As I’ve previously explained, when Muslims are seeking conquest, Islamic scripture endorses sexual assault as a weapon to establish their dominance. “O Prophet,” Allah is said to have announced (in the Koran’s sura 33:50), “We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou has paid their dowers, and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the captives of war whom Allah has assigned to thee.” In the Western ministries of fantasy Islam, the pols and their note-takers will thumb their chins and wonder what could possibly have motivated the German attacks — just as they wonder what could possibly explain the European sexual-assault crisis that has, by some mysterious coincidence, coincided with mass Muslim migration.
The rest of us will know that there is a strategy: conquest. Just as in the Middle East, women and girls in the West are the spoils of jihad, the vehicle for intimidating non-Muslims into surrendering sovereignty over the streets. If they want to be safe, Sheikh Qaradawi warns, they must submit to Islam’s sartorial suffocation. If not, well, they have it coming.
