Madness at Ground Zero

By now most of you would have heard about the outrageous proposal to build a mosque at Ground Zero. Late in May it was announced that a massive mosque will be built just two blocks from where the Twin Towers fell to Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001.

This is how the Associated Press reported the news at the time: “A New York City community board has voted to support a plan to build a mosque near the World Trade Centre site. The vote late Tuesday was 29-1 in favour, with 10 abstentions. It came after hours of contentious public comment about the project to build and a mosque and Islamic cultural centre near the site of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

“Supporters say the mosque will build bridges and foster interfaith dialogue. Critics say the proposed lower Manhattan site is an insult to September 11 victims. Some September 11 victims’ families have expressed anger about the mosque being built so close to where their relatives died. The organisations sponsoring the project says it’s trying to meet a need for prayer space. It also wants to provide a venue for mainstream Islam to counter extremism.”

As can be imagined, there has been plenty of debate about this decision, and plenty of anger. And rightly so. Just today a press story appeared about how the mainstream media seems to have sided with the Muslims here. As one media outlet presents the story:

“An ad urging Americans to oppose the building of a mosque near Ground Zero has been turned down and won’t be aired on CBS and NBC, according to several reports. The ad, entitled ‘The Audacity of Jihad,’ shows, among other things, a man falling out of the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks. CBS and NBC said the ad did not meet the networks’ standards and guidelines for broadcast.

“The controversial 60-second spot begins with a narrator saying: ‘On Sept. 11, they declared war against us. And to celebrate that murder of 3,000 Americans, they want to build a monstrous 13-story mosque at Ground Zero.’ Funded by the National Republican Trust PAC, the ad also includes footage of the second plane crashing into the World Trade Center on 9/11 before flashing to video of Muslim men celebrating.”

Notice how this report calls the ad “controversial” but not the proposal to build a mosque there! It is of course not surprising that the MSM would refuse such an ad. As has been demonstrated time and time again, the secular left in the West is happy to lock arms with the Islamists, since both groups so deeply hate the West.

It is also interesting to note that the funding for this mosque is coming from a group called the Cordoba Initiative. Those with a bit of historical knowledge will recall that it was in Cordoba, Spain that the first great mosque was built as part of the Islamic conquest of Spain. It in fact was first a Christian church which they refashioned into a mosque.

The mosque of course is a symbol of Islamic hegemony, among other things. It is a spearhead into kafir territory. It is a sign that the full submission of a pagan nation is underway. And in this case it is a direct and deliberate slap in the face of the three thousand innocent victims of Islamist terror.

But consider further for a moment just what exactly is being proposed here. Try to find some parallels here. Imagine a Japanese shrine built in Hawaii a few years after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. Or perhaps more to the point, try to imagine a Christian church built in the centre of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This is sheer madness. It is also just one more case of dhimmitude. This refers to the second-class citizenship status of Jews and Christians living in Muslim-majority nations. But it increasingly is referring to a weak and dispirited West which is caving in time and time again to the demands of the Islamists.

All over the Western world we are raising the white flag of surrender. We are capitulating left and right to the onrush of Islam. What they cannot take by the edge of the sword they will get by softening up a demoralised and politically correct West.

Where all this madness will end remains to be seen. But we are clearly aiding and abetting the attempts by the Islamists to neutralise the West and bring it under a universal caliphate devoted to Allah. Why the West is so cooperative in this demolition job is hard to fathom.

But unless some resolve and backbone is shown real quick, we will all be facing Mecca and saying our prayers five times a day.

The ad which was refused by the American TV networks can be seen here: http://nationalrepublicantrust.com/

And here is a very good 6-minute video assessment of this madness by an English commentator: http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/06/pat-condell-on-ground-zero-mosque-is-it-possible-to-be-astonished-but-not-surprised.html

  1. Pathological. They will take us all down will them, Alasdair MacIntyre was right – the barbarians are within the gates now. We have to fight this monstrous thinking.

  2. Honestly, I can’t believe they’re pushing it through in the face of public dissent… especially given the disrespect it shows to the memories of the slain

  3. I got a forward on this and thought it was a hoax!!! So this is for real?!!

  4. Bill,
A case of self imposed dhimmitude by the supporters; a weak attempt to camouflage an act of ‘kow tow’ as a magnanimous bridge building effort.

  5. Some people say we are reliving the 1930’s. We are suffering a world wide economical crisis. Anti-Semitism is rife in Europe. Governments are appeasing to horrible dictators and medieval despots. Other people also say we are like the last days of Rome etc

Why so people like the MSM hate the West so much. This mosque in New York when I heard about it a month ago is just plain wrong. It is meant to be completed on the 10th anniversary of the attacks in September 11th next year. There is even a mosque across from the Vatican!

When I was walking home this evening and I saw a mother with two happy young daughters. All most people want is to work hard, to have or provide for a family and to feel safe, not fearing our governments or the people around us. I can’t believe that anything could happen to end a society that I am enjoying at the moment by, lets say a one world government or Islam ruling the world. It just seams so far fetched. Yet your article and many similar to nothing, plus talk radio to ease my fears.

I can’t believe people like the MSM and governments want Socialism. It has never worked and never will. I see people wearing Che Guevara shirts. I know nothing of who Che really is but if he is a pin-up boy of the left he can’t be good. You talk about madness, I heard last year countries celebrating 50 years of rule in Castro’s Cuba. The Empire State Building was lit up in red and yellow to celebrate 60 years of China’s Mao’s rule. Why can’t people see that this militant Islam and the Western Society are not really compatible as much as I would like it to be. I feel that something is going to give and this is going to soon. How soon is all relative.

  6. Forget the mosque – I say don’t even let Muslims near Ground Zero!

  7. “It also wants to provide a venue for mainstream Islam to counter extremism.” They mean fake Islam to counter real Islam? Why don’t fake Islam just use the media, tv, internet, etc to counter real Islam?

  8. Bill,
Just read that teleevangelist Bill Keller has proposed to build a Christian center at ground zero to counter the Islamic mosque .Know who this man is ? What do you think?

  9. A good essay, Bill. Nice point about Pearl Harbour too. But didn’t the decay start round about when Jane Fonda insolently posed with Communist gunners shooting down her fellow Americans? And she wasn’t punished. Of the comments, I like most Carl Strehlow’s first paragraph. I have had that thought too. Trouble is brewing. Never mind about “we live in interesting times!” To borrow from Ray Bradbury, “something wicked this way comes!”

  10. Hi Bill, just found your website, very interesting!

Off the topic, I was talking to some fellow Christians recently about Islam and they stated that the Koran was written by Jewish scholars and it was deliberately filled with errors! They wrote a lot of rubbish apparently.

I cant find verification about this and would be interested to know what you think.

The followers of Mohammed were illiterate so it would make sense that Jews were the only ones capable of writing.

    Brenda Spence

  11. Thanks Brenda

The whole topic of the origin and transmission of the Koran is quite complex and detailed, and cannot be fully entered into here with a short comment. Muslims of course claim that a perfect text was transmitted to the illiterate Muhammad via the angel Gabriel.

Early on after Muhammad’s death there were various versions and variations of the Koran which were causing confusion and division, so Caliph Uthman ordered all competing texts to be burned. But many questions remain about the text, its corruption, changes to it, and other issues.

For more on all this please consult Mateen Elass’ Understanding the Koran (Zondervan, 2004) or other critical assessments. See also this site: http://www.answering-islam.org/Green/seven.htm

  13. It’s not just non-Christians, but many Christians who aid and abet this madness. A couple of months ago I ended up in an argument about Islam with 3 Christian friends. I really didn’t want to argue with them but what they were saying was so outrageous and obviously wrong (ie. Christianity has a violent aspect to it as much as Islam.) that I could not keep silent.
I pointed them to this website:
    http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
and then waited for the response.
    – No, Mark, I was told, that is a ‘hate site’.
    – Ummmm, I pointed out that really all they do is follow the news reports and keep score of the dead and injured. Keeping score can hardly be called ‘hate’.
    – No, Mark, you could find a site on Christianity just like that.
    – Really? I asked them to point me to such a website.
    – Well, Mark, the ABC is a much more credible source than any ‘hate’ website.
    – I pointed out that the column on the right of that website just keep a looong list of links to stories on Islamic violence. If you hover your mouse across the various links, you will see that it’s just – for better or worse – representative of a large collection of mainstream news from all around the world. The reality is that that site is actually honouring the dead and injured because of Islam and it’s better to stop feeding off news sources like the ABC. Do you care more about the ABC’s supposed credibility or the lives of people under threat from Islam?
    – (silence)

It was like talking to a radio tuned to the ABC looping politically correct clichés, rather than a thinking, breathing, redeemed individual supposedly interested in truth, correction and the expansion of God’s Kingdom. Unbelievable.

The worst thing I have encountered in my life in the last couple of years is Christians defending lies in the face of incontrovertible evidence. It feels like a total betrayal before Jesus. It absolutely amazes me.

I’m pretty sure Jesus did not say the following:

I am the way, the politically correct, and the life.
    or
I am the way, the ‘compassionate’ fuzzy feelgood love, and the life
    or
I am the way, the commercial free so-called independent ABC, and the life.

What scares me the most is how easily Christians end up believing such things and I end up wondering and praying about what in my life also displeases God. Clearly traps are everywhere. We must remember we literally live in a spiritual minefield.

    Mark Rabich

  14. Thanks Mark

I agree with you 100 %. The examples you provide here are incredible. One of the most damning indictments of the modern church is the almost complete lack of biblical discernment, and the absence of a thorough biblical worldview. Many Christians seem to consider the secular left MSM as gospel, while ignoring their own Scriptures. We seem happy to believe lies and wander around in a fog of deception.

  15. Though Pat Condell might be right regarding his view of Islam, his views of Christ reveal his atheistic hatred of all forms of religion.

    David Skinner, UK

  16. Carl,
You are right about socialism: it has never worked, basically because they throw money around as though it grows on trees. They never stop to think about where it comes from, and who the real wealth producers are, i.e. the (gasp! horror!) private enterprise…capitalists!!! Hence they screw the wealth producers by taxation in their mad, spread-the-wealth schemes, only to find that they merely kill the proverbial goose that lays the golden eggs.

But apart from financial considerations my real objection to all forms of socialism (or statism as I prefer to call it) is that it makes a god of the state; as I used to say in Gough Whitlam’s time, “Australia’s new religion is the state, and its doxology is ‘Praise Gough from whom all blessings flow'”. That is always the way with socialism: it deifies the state at the expense of the true and living God. Hence for me a Christian cannot also be a socialist, since it is an effort to serve two masters, which our Lord most emphatically denied (Matt.6:24; Luke 16:13). Although Jesus was talking there specifically about the idol of wealth, it can – and should – be applied more generally. And anyway, socialism is all about wealth – and the politics of envy and greed – after all.

You mentioned Che Guevara. In his early life he was genuinely appalled at the plight of Latin America’s poor, and resolved to work for their improvement. However, along the line he got hold of Marxism, and finished up being the execution commissar for Castro’s regime in Cuba. Over the years he has authorised, and at times also supervised, more than 15,000 executions of people – among whom were many poor – who did not fit into Castro’s plans for a Communist utopia. But leftist dupes, and actual admirers, hold him up as some sort of hero of freedom and secular saint.

I knew nothing about this guy, so good to be informed of his atheism. So we must take the meat and leave the bones in this case.

  18. Thanks Murray,

Thank you for your reply, it helps and will check over those Bible verses. I have a good feel for Socialism now after reading a book by a Lyle Rossiter called the Liberal Mind.

I will soon be reading on books on the Nazi regime. I read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich many years ago and will be reading a book called Hitler’s Social Revolution by a David Schoenbaum before tackling Ian Kershaw’s two part Hitler biography. I will need to do some research on other books Nazi Germany. I have even heard that in some ways (and need to find out) that it was in a number of ways on the left side of politics. Though I know there was little difference between Hitler and Stalin. I want to read on all our horrible governments over the past century or so.

So I am starting off with Germany. I was going to go Soviet Union next but now want to go Castro’s Cuba so I will need to find out good books there. I just have a feeling that there are so many books praising Castro/Che. I must not forget Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin or even South Africa and so on. It just concerns me people see Cuba as a good example of what a society should be like. I even remember listen to a American talkback show last year of a sound bite of a reporter getting excited with the 40 year celebrations of Gaddafi’s rule in Libya. I hope people us Christians and others will just wake up to the potential dangers facing us all.

    Carl Strehlow

  19. Yes, Bill, Pat Condell can see clearly the situation with Islam, threatening us from outside the walls and yet, is blinded, by his own self – induced stupidity, to the threat of the gay liberation movement working to bring down the walls from within:

Mark Rabich, I too have experienced this same phenomenon, if one can call it that, of being attacked more ferociously by those whom I formerly regarded as brothers in Christ, than by the pagans who surround me. What surprises me is the speed with which this has happened.

Also there is this other phenomenon, as you have pointed out, of the fact that merely pointing to uncomfortable truths is enough to make one guilty of being a hate- filled, dangerous bigot. I have had this from an influential church elder who is also a counsellor in the local high school. I wanted to warn him of an “out”, proud homosexual who has a key role, in the in the same high school, for the social and moral education of the children. His response to me ended, “David I am not listening. I am not listening. I am not listening to another word. I am not listening.” (phone slammed down).

Let us be reminded of Christ’s warning: “Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Luke 12 51-53

  20. “… that it was in a number of ways on the left side of politics. Though I know there was little difference between Hitler and Stalin. I want to read on all our horrible governments over the past century or so.”

This points up another one of those perpetual lies. Socialism/communism and fascism are the same thing! Both far left. The far right, politically speaking, is anarchy.

  21. Hi Bill,

I have a heart for the persecuted church and came across this site today when researching background of some martyred Somali believers. I would recommend a look at this site if your readers want to know what life will be like for believers under Islam. There is an extremely graphic link to video footage of an actual beheading of one of our brothers in Christ – I gave up watching a few minutes in before it got to the actual murder, and felt ill all day, nearly having to come home from work. I understand, Bill, if in your process of moderation you decline to put this comment in, given the nature of the footage on the link, but will leave it in your hands. God bless you for the work you do to make believers aware.

  22. It is hard to believe that should this happen, one day, we will be hearing the Islamic call to prayer from the near ground Zero minarets five time a day. Heaven forbid, this would be the mother of all insults.
    Bill Heggers, W.A.

  23. Bill,
Sorry to be late with this one, but I was alerted to it only yesterday (22/7). There was recently a mass rally at Ground Zero to protest to the gutless and clueless Mayor Bloomberg about this insane proposal. Of course, the media hardly touched it, because it doesn’t fit their narrative. They are truly in the news suppression business!
However, I ask posters to this blog to view the pictures:

But of course the left is not interested in the will of the people; only their own will and determination.

  24. Blessings Carl, I was just having read up on Bills site.
There were a lot of people in pre Nazi Germany including many Jews who didn’t believe anything could end the sophisticated educated advanced christian society they were enjoying either. But it did.
I was just reading “Could America face its own Kristallnach.” Found Here: http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/010/bonhoeffer.htm
If we ignore and fail to learn the lessons of history, it is bound to repeat itself, when we least expect it. In my view America is in a very dangerous position at the moment as its own government is up to some very scary things like bypassing the protections of its constitution and the building or upgrading of detention centers all over the country that can hold millions of people.
Just recently I saw where they have now forbidden members of the armed services from speaking at any faith based organization. The same armed services that are being reprogrammed to to recognize and obey the authority of the UN above America’s. We live in dangerous days.
