Heartless Bureaucrats Are Destroying Lives, Freedom and Democracy

If these horror stories do not shock you, you may be part of the problem:

Every day we hear new horror stories of bureaucracy and political power running amok, with innocent people paying a heavy price as a result. We read of tyrants and petty dictators so drunk on power and control that they are making life hell for so many people.

Using the pretext of “keeping people safe” they have run roughshod over basic constitutional freedoms and rights, and turned so many places into burgeoning police states and internment camps. Every time I hear another appalling story of heartless leaders, bureaucrats, premiers and governors trampling on the rights of the people, causing inestimable damage, I get very upset.

When families are split apart for indefinite periods of time because of utterly idiotic and senseless border closures and the like, it breaks my heart. A book could easily be penned featuring all these stories of loved ones separated from each other, with no certainty at all that they will be reunited any time soon.

We of course already know that the human cost of draconian and over-the-top lockdown policies is going through the roof: all the social pathologies are rising markedly: mental health problems, suicides, gambling addictions, alcoholism, drug abuse, and so on. Simply the huge spike in suicides should give us pause, and help us understand that the cure certainly has become far worse than the disease.

So let me share just a few of these utterly shocking stories of heartless miscreants so drunk on power and so obsessed with their own importance that tragedy after tragedy is occurring as a result. Consider this recent story from New South Wales:

A heartbroken mother has been left unable to be with her son during his battle against leukaemia due to Queensland’s tough border rules. Keegan, 28, is in Brisbane preparing to undergo an aggressive form of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer this week. His mother, Kate, is desperate to be by his side but she lives in Narrabri, a small town in northern New South Wales. Because of Queensland’s tough border restrictions, she might miss out on seeing him during his time of need.

‘My son is in hospital with leukemia that was diagnosed yesterday. As a mother I want to be with him,’ she told A Current Affair. ‘How would they like it if their child was in another state, just diagnosed with cancer and they could not be with him. It’s just cruel.’ Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk tightened the state’s border restrictions on August 8, shutting the border to all of New South Wales in an attempt to stem the spread of the deadly respiratory infection.

Despite living in a small town 521 kilometres northwest of Sydney, Kate must still apply for exemption to cross the border and would have to quarantine for 14 days once she arrives. ‘What I find contradictory is that they may allow me over the border under compassionate grounds but then they’re going to imprison me in a hotel for 14 days when I can’t see my son,’ Kate said. Ms Palaszczuk has come under fire for her tough border rules, earning her the nickname ‘Comrade Anna’. But she has stood firm on her decision. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8645057/Border-issues-Mothers-heartache-shes-left-unable-visit-son-fighting-leukaemia.html

And here is another such story:

A Victorian farmer who desperately needed to get 43 tonnes of hay over to his NSW farm to feed his livestock was told by authorities to “stick it on a plane” as stringent border measures continue to wreak havoc across the country. Farmer Chris Taylor told 9News.com.au he has been trying to get across to his Euston farm for two weeks but was denied an agriculture permit due to living in central Victoria – about 230kms from the NSW border.

But Mr Taylor said he was left “dumbfounded” after a NSW department told him to take the 43 tonnes of hay to Melbourne and then fly it over to Sydney, where it would then sit in quarantine for 14 days. Only then, could the hay be transported to his farm on the NSW-Victoria border. “Who in their right mind is going to put 43 tonnes of hay on an aeroplane?” He told 9news.com.au. “It is the most ridiculous comment that can be said to someone. I sat back dumbfounded.”

The farmer posted a video on Facebook laughing in incredulity at the scenario advised to him by authorities. The video has since been viewed more than 240,000 times. “So 14 days later the sheep would  get some feed and the hay would have a joy flight to Sydney and sit in quarantine. This is the mentality of people we are dealing with. Can someone please send me a quote on what 43 tonnes of hay would cost to fly from Melbourne to Sydney?” Mr Taylor later told 9News.com.au he had received quotes of up to $500,000 to fly the hay, which weighs about seven times that of an elephant. https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-borders-victorian-farmer-told-to-fly-43-tonnes-hay-nsw-farm/a78c7ac0-be55-48a2-826e-9f19c41ba194

What complete and utter madness. Are these bureaucrats totally bereft of both brains and hearts? This should make all of you really upset. But let me offer you one more Australian story:

A Karratha family has been split in two after Western Australia’s border clampdown on travellers from Victoria left the parents stuck in Melbourne after attending a vigil. Ben Dunn, 39, travelled to Melbourne on Thursday with his partner and two of his children, aged three and 13, to farewell his mother who passed away in regional Victoria. His twins, Zane and Jylah, 11, stayed in Perth with relatives. Mr Dunn planned for the family to return to WA on Saturday and had been told by authorities they would be exempt from the hard border closure on compassionate grounds, but just hours into their short stay the rules changed, leaving them stranded.

Thankfully, only AFTER this story was published, the authorities backed down and the family was allowed to be reunited. https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/family-split-in-two-as-border-clampdown-wreaks-havoc-on-returning-wa-residents-20200713-p55bmi.html

These things are not just happening in Australia of course. Sadly they are occurring in so many other places. Consider this sad story from the US.

A New York mother says she and her six kids were treated in an “inhumane” way after being tossed from a JetBlue flight because her two-year-old child kept pulling her mask off. “She was pulling it off, she had a pacifier in her mouth and they [flight attendants] saw it happening,” Chaya Bruck was reported by Fox News as saying about the incident, which took place on August 19 in Orlando, Florida. The incident left the mother and kids stranded in a Florida airport for more than five hours.

Bruck said she struggled to have her two-year-old child keep a mask on before the plane departed the gate. This resulted in flight attendants telling her that unless her child kept the mask on, she would be kicked off the flight along with everyone else. “The way they treated me and went about it is inhumane,” said Bruck in the Fox News report, adding that she was “targeted.”

“My kids started crying. They got scared. They didn’t know what was going on. It was very traumatizing.” Bruck says she and her husband are looking into suing JetBlue because of the incident. A video of the event posted on Fox News shows a clip of the ordeal. In the background, voices can be heard by some passengers who appear to be defending Bruck, with one voice clearly saying, “She’s two years old, she’s two years old, it’s on your website.” Another voice also says, “Then why is it on your website?” https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/jetblue-kicks-mom-and-six-kids-off-flight-over-baby-refusing-to-wear-mask

There are so many other stories just like this – and they all make my blood boil. Where is the justice? Where is the compassion? Where is the humanity? Where is the common sense? Cold-hearted bureaucrats and politicians do not seem to care about basic decency and kindness anymore. It is all about their diabolical power trips. If these things do not bother you, you may need to check your pulse.

Sure, I may be partial here. I have a son who has been stranded in Sydney for a while now, and the way things are going, I am beginning to wonder if I will ever see him again. Our leaders keep insisting that lockdown measures will remain – if not become even more stringent – until this virus is eradicated, and/or a foolproof vaccine is discovered. Um, plenty of medical experts have warned that neither one of these things will likely happen. So it looks like we may all be stuck in concentration camps for life.

As one Australian mum said about the NSW case I presented above: “Because I have kids on both sides of the country, my annual leave each year alternates between Canberra and Perth. This year was to have been Canberra – had my flights all paid for but it didn’t happen – so now it’s more than 2 years since I have been able to hug my children in Canberra. But to be denied the right to be with a terminally ill child – I can’t imagine what that poor mother is going through – and her son.”

There would be many thousands of stories like this out there. But our mini-dictators do not seem to give a rip. I hope in future elections the people let their feelings be made known loud and clear on this. Indeed, I hope more and more folks speak out NOW before it gets to be too late to do so.

Oh, and don’t get me started on the rather clueless Christians out there who have fully backed these police state measures, while attacking people like me for daring to raise questions. I have actually had “Christian” leaders so paralysed by fear and panic-porn that they have attacked others for thinking freedom and human rights are actually important right now!

Good grief. No wonder so many people – even so many Christian leaders – did and said nothing when the Nazis consolidated power in the 1930s. It is for our “own good” after all. So we must simply trust and obey – the secular State. This IS how freedom ends and tyranny is established.

I for one will never embrace this.

  1. Chris Kenny’s article in today’s Weekend Australian makes the same points, as do other articles and some of the letters to the editor.
I have a friend who lives in Kaniva, near the South Australian border, whose granddaughter goes to Adelaide for medical treatment, but…
I also have a colleague who went to Western Australian some months ago (‘just for a few days’) but is still, as far as I know, unable to return to NSW to her husband, who suffers from dementia.
Fortunately, although we live in Wodonga, we haven’t had a need to cross the Murray to go to Albury.
Now, more than ever, we need to pray for those in authority.

  2. You are quite correct and should be inspired by the book, ‘Rather Die Fighting’.

  3. I heard a story of a woman in NSW who gave birth to twins last week. One was flown to a QLD hospital for treatment of some kind, but the mother was refused the right to travel with the baby. Idiots in charge. Promising to open borders earlier than anticipated and then threatening to keep them closed longer. No wonder people are losing the plot and killing themselves.

  4. Thanks Bill and others for comments and videos the last few days – looks like the Democrats in US and our medical professionals don’t want people to know that a cheap common drug like Hydroxychloroquine plus zinc could save lives if used in the first 2-3 days when symptoms arise – they would look bad or be blamed for not saving lives. In other words, it looks like all these draconian covid laws could be politically motivated so that the Democrats in America and the medical unions and State authorities in Australia have it all under control so that they get into power or get more power. I just hope people hear the truth and vote accordingly in the Qld election 31st October and US Presidential election 3rd November.
I’ve sent an email to our local Federal Member to ask Scott Morrison’s govt, why the decades old proven drug Hydroxychloroquine cannot be used for the virus in Australia when President Trump, under his doctor’s advice used it safely in May and other countries have been using it.

  5. My parents in their 90’s were to celebrate their 7oth Wedding Anniversary in regional Victoria when Covid lockdown was imposed here in NZ! We’ve had to delay our flight till all this madness fizzles.
May be all businesses affected by the lockdown could sue the State Governments in a class action legal case?
Maybe State Citizen’s in each state could mount a class action against the Premiers & the Political Party?
The State Governor’ Generals should be called to step down Premier’s who are violating the UN Human Rights Declaration signed after WW2!
Here’s some excerpts from the Declaration:

“Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,”

“Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people,”

“Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,”

    And
    “Article 3.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
    Article 4.
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.”
    [Lockdown is slavery]
    Article 5.
“No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
[Videos are showing that’s happening in Victoria]
    Article 6.
“Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.”
    Also these:
    Article 8.
“Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.”
    Article 9.
“No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.”

    And finally
    Article 13.
    (1) “Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.”
(2)” Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.”

Maybe families stranded could sue the Premiers involved in forcing the draconian lockdowns!

  6. Totally agree re Lynette’s comment – President Trump has used Hydroxychloroquine!
Vitamin C has been proven over decades to kill viruses & Vitamin C & Quercetin administered together are powerful against viruses!
Studies show garlic can boost the number of virus-fighting “T-cells” in your bloodstream & eating raw garlic can help you prevent the common cold or flu, and reduce the severity of symptoms.
“to reap the antiviral benefits of oregano… you have to consume oil derived from the Oregano plant.
Oregano oil is packed with compounds that have antioxidant, antiviral and antibacterial properties.
The main medicinal compound is carvacrol, which has strong antiviral benefits. Studies done in vitro show it can inhibit some human and animal viruses.”

“Fresh ginger can help fight off bacterial and viral infections.”
“One study also showed ginger extract has an antiviral effect against avian flu, another virus which spreads from animals to people (just like COVID-19)”

  7. These people are not mini-dictators, they are full blown tyrants. Since when did we have to make an application to cross a border? Australian citizens have a legal right to cross state and territory borders under section 92 of our constitution and we do not have to give a reason to anybody. I cannot believe we have come to this, how the premiers have the gall to fly in the face of the law, how the people have been so unquestioning and how the federal government has sat on its hands. There are a few voices for sanity and yours Bill is one, but in the absence of a high-profile court challenge, I fear this is not going to end well.

  8. Dear Brother Bill,

I feel your pain. Thank you for another great article. I’ve been following the countless stories this week of the injustices brought to bear upon the lives of ordinary Australians trying to simply live their everyday lives. Their seems to be a callous indifference to their pain and suffering. I can no longer watch the mainstream news. My blood is to boiling point too! I cannot and will not accept these heartless and soul-less measures as the norm! I Won’t be silent.

I did write to the Attorney General as you suggested and several others in my sphere of influence did likewise. I am also a friend of Mansel Rogerson, from Golden Sceptre. I’ve been involved with his ministry for about 4 years now after meeting him and his family at a church I used to attend. Golden Sceptre has helped me to find my political voice so to speak – it’s shown me the power of the pen and prayer together, and I’ve gained more confidence to speak up for those who have no voice. Mansel has been a great support to me over the past several months regarding mandatory vaccination and leading me to the class action I am now participating in.

Lastly, my husband and I heard Riccardo Bosi speak last week. I don’t know if you are at all familiar with him, but he’s pretty impressive in both substance and strategy. I’ll leave you with a link – you may want to check him out. He’s the leader of the new AustraliaOne Party. Many blessings to you Bill.

  9. Hi Bill
Great article and we are so fortunate to have such a continuous clear thinking Christian as yourself willing to expose the Marxist agenda of our left leaning politicians and bureaucrats with Daniel Andrews leading the charge.
As the scriptures declare “the whole world lies under the power of the evil one” but as we are Christ followers we are called to expose their deeds of darkness.
    Terry Hill
    New Gisborne.

  10. The situations mentioned here are so ridiculous as to be laughable, except this is apparently reality in Australia and America. As for the farmer-do those idiotic politicians have any idea AT ALL where their meat come from?????!!!!! Why cant they let the farmer feed his livestock???? Do they think meat and vegetables and fruit just appear out of thin air a la magic??? Sorry I’m from a farming background so it just hits me pretty hard.

  11. Hi Bill, wonderful to see you never tire of topic, resources and faith in Almighty God.
As you know we don’t connect to the television, we do however view the odd DVD.
To night we watched Beautifully Broken as true story about three families, two Rwandan one American.
Sadly with all that is happening in 2020 I cannot help feeling everyone should view this movie. Take note and prepare.
How long oh Lord how long?
    Cheers
    Mark Bryant

  12. Barb I would, unfortunately, point this out: article 29 part 3. These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

The U.N. decides if these rights apply in any situation so they will just say that exercising those rights in the way WE want is contrary to their purposes.

  13. I think back to the forced clapping for the NHS in the U.K. and remember the line from one of the star wars prequels “so this is how liberty dies with thunderous applause”.

I hate bureaucracy. Completely inflexible always adhering to the rules even when they make no sense. HOA’s are the worst. Power corrupts. But it always seems like the people who get bureaucratic power are either already corrupt or very easily corruptible.

History keeps repeating because we refuse to learn it. Even when I was in school, 80s-90s they didn’t teach about prewar Germany and how things in Germany got to the point of the concentration camps and the holocaust. Seems like that would be important to learn about not just the holocaust.

  14. Hi Bill,

I wonder if Joe Beijing Biden is elected, will the CCP virus feardemic suddenly stop?

    Best regards

    Marian

  15. As always Bill, a well grounded article. I am sure, as you say, volumes could be written on the absurdity, lack of common sense and heartlessness surrounding so many of the decisions made by our politicians and petty bureaucrats who make such decisions ‘because they can’. We would do well to read of such people as William Wilberforce, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and MLK who, while men of Christian principals, also realised that to sit on ones hands was NOT was required in “the hour of need”. They carried out their ‘duty’ with dignity and passion (and I’m sure much prayer) and with little concern for personal health or safety in order to ‘expose the darkness’ of their day. May I say that you , with the ‘power of the pen/keyboard’ are in the same vein in seeking to call such situations into the light.

  16. A few people here have raised the question of legal action. There is indeed a class action underway. Serene Tehaffa of Advocate Me https://b46d3b17-2c96-45ba-9a87-8c2fb9df6f7e.usrfiles.com/ugd/b46d3b_5f243040805e485998075dfdae15fb34.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2-5w_SX_sfB-evn0Mo9zfoAZQtwLOBEyI6apZ2NjEyeZ1f672iLbX_ToQ This is the open letter to all of our government leaders. Legal action is to follow. She is encouraging all who can, to join the class action. The legal challenge is the only way to stop this. It gives us something concrete that we can do. The Australian Constitution and the Bio Security Act and other legislation is being violated and politicians and bureaucrats rely on our ignorance to hoodwink us. The other thing we can do is to lobby the Legislative Assembly independents to vote against the further state of emergency bill that will pass through Parliament. If there is a good thing about any of this, it is the fact that extensive corruption in all branches of government is now being exposed. That will spark genuine reformation. Check out Advocate Me!

  17. Agree mostly. Andrew Bolt has been saying similar things every night. But here’s a question: should church leaders defy the law and meet despite restrictions? There may come a time but when?

  18. I am told that in our Constitution there is a paragraph which which says the parliament can bring them to task for giving wrong information and from memory can jail them.
Strange , we never hear about this!

  19. in the American constitution judges are only supposed to keep the place while “in good standing”. yet we don’t impeach all the judges who destroy the constitution. (half the countries judges would be out of a job) Seems like governments put tools in place to deal with bad actors but don’t seem too keen to use those tools. it is as if those tools are window dressing. something nice to look at but basically worthless.
