The Blatant Bias of the ABC: Easy To Prove
Consider the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, along with the mainstream media as a whole: ‘You’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy’. Oops, that was actually how Obi-Wan Kenobi described the Mos Eisley Spaceport to Luke Skywalker. But hey, pretty close.
“Our” ABC and the MSM is a hotbed of radical secular leftism. I have documented one case after another of this over the years, and each new episode of anti-conservative and anti-Christian bigotry further confirms the truth of this. As well as all the anecdotal evidence, we keep getting research which fully bears this out.
In today’s Australian we had a much-needed column on this by Jennifer Oriel, “Why the ABC is at odds with us”. While the entire piece is a must read, this very revealing paragraph tells us all we need to know about the biased and bigoted ABC:
The ABC has not admitted to a lack of political diversity in its staff profile or systemic political bias in its programming. Yet the largest survey in 20 years of political attitudes among journalists found that 73.6 per cent of ABC journalists support Labor or the Greens. The Sunshine Coast University research also found that 41.2 per cent of ABC staff surveyed voted for the Greens. As Chris Kenny wrote in The Weekend Australian, the “federal vote ceiling” for the Greens is just over 10 per cent. On those figures, the ABC’s staff profile is highly unrepresentative of the Australian general public.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/opinion/columnists/jennifer-oriel/diversity-of-thought-practically-whitewashed-by-pc-ideology/news-story/9d16179ec45fe24f6b05072f64540ec7
Wow, what damning statistics those are! While taken from 2013 research, we can only imagine what the figures look like today. And over the years ABC insiders have said that this bias is indeed entrenched in the organisation. Let me offer just three representative quotes here. Some two decades ago ABC presenter and homosexual Robert Dessaix actually said this:
The political correctness of the ABC is extraordinary. There’s no leeway in anything to do with race or gender or politics. There is only one attitude you can have to Aborigines, to multiculturalism and to feminism. I have to tailor what I say to the reigning ideology of the ABC. As for career prospects in this bastion of gay men and feminists, heterosexual males may as well go and commit suicide.
Around 13 years ago another homosexual and ABC regular, David Marr put it this way:
The natural culture of journalism is kind of vaguely soft-Left inquiry sceptical of authority. I mean, that’s just the world out of which journalists come. If they don’t come out of that world, they really can’t be reporters. You know, just find another job. And that is kind of a soft-leftie kind of culture.
And a decade ago David Salter, a former executive producer of the ABC’s Media Watch said this:
The long march of young liberal-humanist progressives through the ABC’s many portals is as much a self-perpetuating cycle as the daughters of doctors choosing a medical career or the sons of great football players striving to match the sporting deeds of their fathers.
Um, how many more quotes along these lines are needed? How many more studies are needed? The ABC is full of secular lefties, many of whom hate Christianity and hate conservatism. Is it any wonder we find all this bigotry and bias spewing forth from the network on a daily basis?
And just in case all that does not yet convince you about the secular left’s stranglehold on the ABC, consider this massively revealing bit of information:
“Why does the Left media protect the left?”
Because the political commentators of the Left media are either intermingled or married to the left politicians. It’s a family thing and they protect their own.
Greg Combet (Labor) partnered to Juanita Phillips (ABC).
Gai Brodtmann (Labor) married to Chris Uhlmann (ABC).
David Feeney (Labor) married to Liberty Sanger (guest commentator on ABC).
Barrie Cassidy (ABC) former speech writer for Bob Hawke (Labor) from 1986-1991 married to Heather Ewart (ABC).
Maxine McKew (ABC) married to Bob Hogg (former ALP national secretary).
Virginia Trioli (ABC) married to Russell Skelton (The Age).
Mark Kenny (Fairfax) married to Virginia Haussegger (ABC).
Christine Wallace (ABC & Fairfax) married to Michael Costello (former Chief of Staff to Labor’s Kim Beazley).
Annabel Crabb (former Fairfax journalist now with the ABC).
Tony Jones (ABC) married to Sarah Ferguson (ABC). Coincidentally Jones took over the Lateline role from Maxine McKew (from ABC presenter to Labor politician).
David Penberthy (journalist) married to Kate Ellis (Labor).
Paul Kelly (former Fairfax journalist) formerly married to Ros Kelly (Labor).
Kerry O’Brien (ABC) former press secretary to Gough Whitlam.
Mark Colvin (ABC) married to Michelle McKenzie (Leichhardt deputy-mayor and Greens Councillor).
Denis Atkins (ABC Insiders regular) married to Melanie Christensen (ABC Canberra).
Paul Barry (ABC) married to Lisa McGregor (ABC).
The lamentable Mike Carlton (formerly Fairfax) and Morag Ramsay (ABC).
Andrew Fraser (Fairfax) and Catriona Jackson (formerly Fairfax and Labor press secretary).
And so the list goes on.
Labor, Fairfax and the ABC are joined at the hip.

The ABC’s hatchet job on conservative Christianity
The latest case of the ABC spinning out of control in its hatred of Christianity and conservatism is of course its deplorable attack piece on evangelicals and domestic violence. The more we learn about this hit piece by Julia Baird and the ABC, the more we see how reprehensible they really are, and how despicable this story really is.
As I have documented in several articles now, they deliberately lied about the evidence to paint a picture they wanted. The actual evidence points to an entirely different conclusion, but the ABC is never one to let facts and truth stand in the way of a good hatchet job.
My two earlier assessments of this are found here:
https://billmuehlenberg.com/2017/07/20/christophobic-abc-strikes/
https://billmuehlenberg.com/2017/07/21/whose-side-anyway/
The power of the media to distort the truth, to hide the truth, and to present lies as if they are the truth was on full display in this story. We now know that those with an opposing point of view were in fact interviewed for the story. But because their perspective did not square with the ABC’s bias, their interviews were left on the editor’s floor.
There were actually some real positive stories that could have been included in the report, based on lengthy interviews, but they were deliberately omitted from the program. As one news report about this appalling omission states:
A senior female Anglican leader has expressed “disappointment” that her “positive” story in fighting domestic violence was ignored by the ABC in its controversial TV program claiming Christian men who go to church occasionally are the worst abusers of women. Sydney diocese Archdeacon for Women Kara Hartley was -interviewed for more than an hour by ABC journalist Julia Baird for the report on 7:30 that aired on Wednesday night, but none of her comments were aired.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/media/broadcast/abc-ignored-churchs-positive-story/news-story/3e301d4f813b4eafa182d730b64c95d0
As mentioned, it seems clear Baird and the ABC had one predetermined goal in mind: to paint evangelical Christianity in the worst light possible, even despite all the evidence to the contrary. And we taxpayers have to subsidise this Christophobia!
And as is far too often the case, while some clueless Christians have actually sided with these misotheists against other believers, some non-Christians have rallied to the defence of Christianity. Andrew Bolt has again written about this case of blatant bigotry and is worth mentioning once more.
He again looks at all the research evidence that shows the exact opposite view to Baird and the ABC, and shows how they were completely dishonest with what they presented. And Bolt notes that the ABC actually defended all this, and claimed that he and others were “quibbling over footnotes”.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/blogs/andrew-bolt/bairds-quibbling-over-footnotes/news-story/c1ea7a7bae3498fb3465fae715c15d31
Good grief! Sadly I too have had so-called believers who seek to defend to the death everything the ABC says and does telling me I was “quibbling” over the stats. Seriously? Affirming the facts, truth and evidence is just “quibbling”? What, we should just emote over these things, and just ignore what the data has to say?
Um, this is about being concerned with facts and truth, and not allowing lies to be pushed for the sake of ideology. But as is so often the case, the other side just can’t seem to deal with the data, with the facts, with the evidence, so they attack you for “quibbling”!
Bolt concludes his piece as follows: Baird had said this in her defence: “Some have suggested that we should rely on the 1986 New Zealand survey instead. That’s fine. All data welcome to the table.” Bolt replied:
Pardon? If that New Zealand survey – the Fergusson one falsely cited by the ABC in its statement as supporting Baird’s false claim – is actually “welcome to the table”, why didn’t Baird mention it in her article or 7.30 report? She clearly knew of it. In fact, it is the one survey whose results are specifically quoted by Tracy in the article she cites as her single source.
Yet that Fergusson survey completely contradicts Baird’s claim and thesis. It shows that men who don’t go to church are much more likely to beat their wives than are even sporadic church-goers. It says church-going protects women. Again I ask: why did Baird ignore this survey and its conclusions? Why did she claim the opposite of what it found? And why does the ABC continue to defend this shabby attack on Christianity?
Baird and the ABC have been caught out big time. Yet instead of ‘fessing up, admitting they were clearly in the wrong, and vowing to do much better and act much more professionally in the future, they keep digging in their heels even further, seeking to justify and exonerate themselves.
That is just pathetic. As I have often said, if this were just some ratbag private outfit doing its thing, we could all just ignore it. But it is the ‘public broadcaster’ and one that we are forced to subsidise and prop up with our hard-earned tax dollars. It is certainly time to put the ABC out of its misery.
Let them pay their own way for once, and see how they get on. I am sick of paying for all their anti-Christian and anti-conservative bigotry. And you should be too.
[1708 words]
I started watching 60 Minutes with Liam Bartlett, regarding the lady who states that her husband (a pastor of a church) regularly raped her. I turned it off in disgust as the questions that were asked were so “leading”. Did anyone else watch this program?
Let them pay their own way for sure! I got Foxtel for Andrew Bolt and found I got Outsiders, Jones&Co, Paul Murray and so much more – I don’t need to watch the Baird and co drivel – seen enough of it to know and trust you and all the others who are raising the Standard. Onward Christian soldiers and the band of real conservatives building in the land. Grace to it!
Um, that has to be the same Julia Baird that is the sister of former NSW premier Mike Baird (liberal), and daughter of Bruce Baird (liberal)…
How did she end up so far away from reality when the two other Bairds are somewhat sensible (as far as politicians go that is).
Do I have this right?
Yes you are correct Tim.
I agree but what can be done?
Will the papers print your articles?
Thanks Sandra. The Fairfax press of course will not likely print my articles! But as I keep saying, there is plenty we can do. First off we can send a letter to the editor of the Australian thanking them for running with Oriel’s article and others like them. We can contact the ABC and complain. We can contact our politicians and make a stink. We can share articles like this all over the place, eg., on the social media. We can get on talk back radio and raise our voices. We can tell our friends and colleagues what is happening. The sky is the limit really.
And Andrew Bolt continues to nail the fraudulent and deceptive claims of Baird and the ABC:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/blogs/andrew-bolt/bairds-last-source-complains-doesnt-fully-convey/news-story/0a27b63be8154dc43d186016f63b242e
Hi Bill, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Andrew Bolt’s column in the Herald Sun this morning. His major article was on the world wide demise of the greens movement (we can only hope). The minor but equally valid article concerned his systematic pulling apart of the garbage sources that Baird and Co used to support their bull’s manure article on the brutality that Christian men displayed towards their wives. As previously stated in previous articles the abc lost me years ago. Regards, Kel.
Just sent this to my MP’s:
Please pray.
To Susan Lamb Federal MP for Longman and Mark Ryan State MP for Morayfield,
As you are my Federal and State MP’s i would like to share an article from Bill Muehlenberg with you both.
Bill Muehlenberg has been highlighting issues for 20 or so years.
He writes a fantastic article daily and I’ve been reading his articles for 3-4 years now.
The politicians are not listening. The ABC has to be sorted.
This is a brilliant piece yet again and Bill, as well as many many others whose articles i read, is onto something here.
He also quotes others who are waking up to one of the problems we have in this nation.
I ask you both to please read Bill Muehlenberg’s articles regularly to see what is NOT happening in this country, that should be sorted.
https://billmuehlenberg.com/2017/07/24/blatant-bias-abc-easy-prove/
It’s all the anti – Christian rhetoric that is raging at the moment (Bills articles highlight the lot).
As of the last Census 57% plus of Australian are still Christian in this nation so why are we going down a different path on many issues?
Christian principles are being trashed. This nation is/was built on Christian principles. “Lest We Forget the Lord” Deuteronomy 6:12.
I would like an informed reply, as opposed to a stock standard reply, from each one of you as this is hugely important.
Thank you.
i have left my residential address below for the reply, and you have my email here.
Regards,
Yes, I watched Liam Bartlett ask questions on 60mins last night. I think he was “out of line” with those questions to the son. Fancy asking him to side with one or other parent?
Does Liam Bartlett have any idea of the complexities here in this situation? I think not.
Bill,
Do you have the email for the editor i should write to to Thank him for running the article?
Thanks
Found It: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/editorialSent to Editor in Chief Paul Whittaker.
Paul Whittaker,
May I thank you for this article:
In today’s Australian we had a much-needed column by Jennifer Oriel, “Why the ABC is at odds with us”.
Much needed information for the nation.
Regards,
Thanks and well done Sharon. If you want more than just the editor to see your letter, but want the chance of it to appear on the letters’ page for all to see, then you need a different email address. It used to be this – hopefully it still is:
letters@theaustralian.com.au
I don’t know if you have seen this twitter thread by one of the authors of the research on the issue:

Hi All
Great Article again Bill. I rate Andrew Bolt as one of the most courageous journalists in Australia. He needs our prayers.
Just a small comment on Barrie Cassidy. He interviewed Bill Shorten on Sunday morning’s Insiders. As expected a limp wristed love in with Bill and Barrie occurred.
Bill was ranting about how he was listening to Australia’s population and the high cost of living. Shorten produced mythical comments about how Labor was there to solve Australia’s high cost of living for honest hard working Australians and how Labor would reduce the entry price of housing.
Yeah Yeah Yeah All my dreams will clearly come true when I vote LABOR.
Of course, Bill Shorten lays the sympathy card on thickly with no solutions and dear Barry didn’t even bother asking how Bill was going to solve this difficult issues.
On Renewables we all know Bill Shorten and Labor wants a 50% renewable target with zero understanding how costly this will be for low and average income earners already being screwed to the wall by high cost energy bills, businesses trying to make a dollar and seriously damaging to the ongoing prosperity and employment opportunities in our Nation.
Do you think Barrie as a highly paid ABC Journalist would bother to ask how a 50% renewable target would affect household incomes especially those in the lower socio-economic order.
As expected NOT a CHANCE. Barrie does not want to upset his mates, so the public has to listen to facile, insincere and worthless discussion and the ABC management thinks it’s in-depth analysis and wonderful.
What a joke.
Note well to be fair, l am equally unimpressed with LIBERAL GOVT’S lack of leadership to secure Australia’s energy requirements. We are no longer the lucky country when we have inept leaders unwilling to look after it’s citizens energy needs. If we have a severe summer I expect more backouts. Jay Weatherill’s overpriced batteries, sadly will not be enough to save us, despite ABC’s endorsement.
Philip Browne
I can’t help but notice the similarities between the ABC and the BBC. Both push socialism, both hate Christianity, both are stuffed to the gunwales with homosexuals and feminists.
And both seem to be each country’s peak body for the dissemination of misinformation about all things religious – from the love of Islam to the hatred of Christianity.
I wonder how much BBC influence is entangled in Australia’s ABC.
I’m starting to think Goebbels would have been more honest. Seem like Their ABC has the bit firmly between its teeth and they’re sliming for all they’re worth: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-24/how-to-navigate-the-research-on-domestic-violence/8738738
The latest article claims more than 20% of abusive husbands of Christian wives are regular churchgoers. Non-ABC figures said 2% of husbands that regularly attend church abuse their wives. Seems like a 10x variation. That’s a radical difference!!! According to the ’92 UQ study of the Anglican and Uniting churches 3.3% of women reported abuse occurring in the past 12 months. A ’93 study of Brisbane Catholics found 40% of perpetrators (both male and female) were regular churchgoers. I’m assuming the ABC simply went 40% of regular churchgoers in 1 of the 2 studies means 20% of husbands are serial abusers. Gah!!! The logic is so bad I’m spitting tacks! Sorry doubtless excessive use of exclamation marks. They have conflated a study of abuse in 2 denominations with a study of perpetrators in another denomination then generalised for all churches.
When responding to the question of why not talk about Muslims they claim their half length defence of Islam was sufficient. So a half length supportive piece is the same as an attack piece twice the length? And when asked about why not a piece on Aborigines given domestic violence rates are 32x the national average, they simply note that the focus is on religion, and many Aborigines are Christian i.e. once again suggesting Christianity is responsible for any Aboriginal violence. And when asked why they don’t cover the positive things the church does, they claim they did – an article about church leaders calling for an urgent response to abused women, and possibly even an apology by the church(es), but they then go on to say that any efforts by churches are insufficiently resourced, and failing to function on a national and cross-denominational level. They then conclude with a partial list of apologies, statements, and sermons about domestic violence. While domestic violence obviously has no part in either a Christian church or a Christian marriage, the enthusiasm which so many who call themselves Christian have jumped on the ABC bandwagon to defend and support the claims, or meekly roll over and suggest apologies are in order, is seriously troubling. Any church that preaches a Social Justice Warrior message e.g. domestic violence, is one that has lost sight of the Biblical message. Anything pertaining to the subject should be reserved for small groups for couples, or special courses on better marriage as it quite simply isn’t even remotely relevant to most Christians. To make domestic violence a church’s focus is to forget about the role of Christ, but of course that supports the ABC agenda – they hate Christ.
The sole consolation to my mind is John 15:18-19
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Sorry this is doubtless something of a tirade but I am fuming.
I am with you Andrew.
If there was to be a plebiscite the ABC staff would probably have a psychotic episode. Can you imagine the ABC ever allowing a discussion as to whether homosexual relationships are in fact equal to marriage? As it is the ABC has pushed the “equality” lie unrelentingly for nearly twenty years now with hardly a breath of opposition to their lying claims allowed. What would happen if they actually allowed a glimmer of truth? They continue to push the lie that people are being stopped from loving whomever they wish. They are still pushing the lie that people’s rights are being violated. They are still pushing the lie that morality is not an issue. They are still pushing the lie that it is a matter of rights. They are still ignoring the rights of children. They are still ignoring the risks involved. They are still ignoring all the evidence from overseas as to how redefining marriage is actually removing people’s rights. How is it possible that the unrelenting bias is not taken into control? How can they just unceasingly get away with pretending the opposing view does not exist?
The ABC’s claim to unbiased news reporting is a ‘furfie.’ Though there is much commendable programming: ie ‘Four Corner’ program on water pilfering upstream of the Murray-Darling catchment, the bias comes out: ie ‘Media Watch’ defending the ABC’s war on Evangelical Christians. Privatise the ABC, and start a truly representative national broadcaster!
Fran Kelly’s cheap shot on RN Am today 21/9….interview with the NZ Labour leader….asking about gay marriage is another piece of evidence of a lesbian woman using public funded radio station to advertise her lifestyle and choice. The line “the world hasn’t fallen apart” after marriage equality was legislated in NZ completely unnecessary in that interview, but thrown in to spruik the gay agenda. All her questions are primed to get a response which is acceptable to her. She is one of the worst biased journalist I’ve ever listened to. She shouldn’t be calling herself a journalist, but a lesbian PR front person. Same goes for Tom Switzer…..anyone not for gay lifestyle is “regressive”. I do wonder whether the gay agenda is actually progressive as they try to make it out to be. In all ways, it is actually regressive.
