Abortion Anniversary

There are two anniversaries coming up which I am very much aware of. Tomorrow is my 30th wedding anniversary, which is something to always remember and celebrate. But today is the 39th anniversary of Roe v Wade, the famous American court decision about abortion. That is not an anniversary to celebrate or be proud of.

On January 22, 1973, seven (out of nine) US Supreme Court judges sided with Jane Roe (the alias of Norma McCorvey) claiming that there was a Constitutional right to abortion, striking down the laws of 50 states. One of the great ironies of all this is that Norma  McCorvey is now a Christian and a powerful champion of the unborn.

She has seen the light on what abortion is all about, as have so many others. As John Lillpop comments, the legacy of this infamous court decision is nothing to be proud about. The decision “approved abortion on demand, thereby sanctioning the slaughter of innocent, helpless human lives and establishing infanticide as an inalienable right.

“It is a day that will ‘live in infamy’ because of the egregious human rights violation that followed: 50-60 million human lives exterminated through abortion in the United States alone since the court issued its heartless death warrant for the unborn.

“Roe v. Wade effectively rendered the precious nature and sanctity of all human life to be ‘pious bologna.’ 50-60 million lives is nearly seven times the number of Jews killed at the hands of Adolph Hitler, and more than the number of victims slaughtered by Joseph Stalin.

“However, unlike those murdered by Hitler and Stalin, the 50-60 million fetuses killed in America had no political, social, or religious enemies. Rather, they were innocent human lives waiting to experience the blessings of birth and the joys of life.

“Those who believe that abortion should be an inalienable right refuse to accept an indisputable fact: A fetus is human life before birth. That says it all. Call that fetus what you wish, the fact remains that it is human life. Albeit, the fetus is a life without power, voting rights, free speech or any other protection afforded the born. However, it is a human life, plain and simple.”

Yet pro-death feminists claim that the right to abortion is somehow good for women. Today uber-feminist Anne Summers informs us in the Melbourne Age (of course) that “There is no such thing as a pro-life feminist ”. She says, “As far as I am concerned, feminism boils down to one fundamental principle and that is women’s ability to be independent.

“There are two fundamental preconditions to such independence: ability to support oneself financially and the right to control one’s fertility. To achieve the first, women need the education and training to be able to undertake work that pays well. To guarantee the second, women need safe and effective contraception and the back-up of safe and affordable abortion.”

Wow, so this is what it is to really be a woman: having the freedom and the right to kill your baby in your own womb. If that is what feminism really means, then it is the most diabolical ideology to have ever plagued our planet. The truth is, Summers and her pro-death feminist buddies are quite wrong to claim this is all about empowering women.

It is about killing babies – end of story. And closely related to that, a major aim of abortion is all about making money – big money. Greed, not love, is the motivating factor behind the abortion industry. Many abortionists will admit to this. And the growing number of ex-abortionists makes this quite clear. Consider the story of former US baby killer, Carol Everett.

At her clinics, an abortion for a woman eighteen weeks pregnant cost $375. At twenty weeks it cost $500. Her abortion clinics became abortion mills, working with assembly line efficiency. Operating seven days a week, she could oversee 400 abortions a month. She received a $25 commission for each abortion. Thus she was earning $10,000 a month. Her plans were to have 5 abortion clinics operating full-time in the Texas area, performing 600 abortions a month, earning her $15,000.

Abortion was definitely big business for Everett. She had ads in the Yellow Pages of five southern states, each with a toll-free number. Ads in newspapers offered coupons with 10 per cent discounts. Setting up clinics near high schools was an effective tactic. She even planned to set up a clinic by a mall so customers could go shopping while waiting for their abortion. Says Everett: “Greed – the love of money and the things I could have with it – blinded me. [I was] an abortionist who used whatever means available to get a woman to have an abortion for the sake of money.”

This insatiable lust for money resulted in abortions being performed on women who were not even pregnant! Indeed, the temptation was to get every woman who came into a clinic to have an abortion. Says Everett, “Do you think an abortionist who works on a straight commission is going to tell a woman who has signed her consent form and has already paid in full that she is not pregnant?”

The truth is, the abortion industry is just that – an industry. People are getting quite rich from killing babies. This has nothing to do with the welfare of women. It has everything to do with making big profits by the mass slaughter of unborn children.

So let’s mark this anniversary with all the solemnity, sorrow and righteous anger it so rightly deserves. The only empowerment this decision made possible was to empower women to kill their own babies, and to empower abortionists to get rich.

  1. As Norma McCorvey has recently stated, ?”I think it’s safe to say that the entire abortion industry is based on a lie, I am dedicated to spending the rest of my life undoing the law that bears my name.”

  2. Dear Bill, I had my 30th wedding anniversary last year. I wish you and your good wife all the best. As for the Row v Wade case, the pro-abortionists have spent many years telling lies about unborn children. We have to respond with the truth. Sally Vincent of Family First has shared a large number of wall photos about this issue.
    Regards, Franklin Wood

  3. So-called feminists are big on trumpeting a woman’s right to control her own body, but approximately half the babies aborted are female: why don’t they get that right?
    John Bennett

  4. A woman doesn’t need abortion or the pill to control her fertility. She just needs to say “no”. Having sex is very much intended to create new human beings as a potential outcome, and the joy of it is intended to encourage us to do so.

But basic education of cause and effect and human biology are forbidden to women today, in the name of empowering them. Responsibility is too hard a burden for women to bear, so-called pro-choice feminists say, and only men are strong enough to.

Nothing could be further from the feminist ideal than abortion, and this is why Anne Summers needs to make it a fundamental part of her feminism. If it weren’t, she would inexorably be led to conclude that abortion is fundamentally anti-feminist and an offence to all women, as much as it is to the human race.

  5. Bill, last was our 30th year of marriage. Congratulations! Marriage and birth are the foundations of life, and if either are attacked, then life itself is at risk. Let’s stop using polite terms. Murder of the innocent must stop. There are very few sins that the Lord says He will not forgive. However, filling a city with the blood of the innocent is one of them (II Kings 24:4). No wonder our cities are cursed with rampant homosexuality, the end of the road of a culture’s degeneracy (Romans 1:26-32). The leaders of the the city of Jerusalem said of the the innocent Christ, “Let His blood be upon our heads and upon the heads of our children” (Luke 23:47; Matthew 27:25) And their children’s, children have suffered, and will continue to live without peace until they say, “Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord” (Matthew 23:39) May the Lord have mercy upon us.

The issue of the murder of innocents in the womb is very, very, very serious indeed.

  6. Great article Bill, I enjoy your commentary on abortion very much. Write a book already!!!

I think it very unfeministic to need some sort of a “corrective surgery” in order to reach equality with men, it’s quite pathetic to be honest.
Furthermore feminists need to stop trying to BE men and start trying to be equal with them, there is a difference, and that line is crossed when you use abortion as a means to equality and gloss over the fact that pregnancy is an intrinsic part of womanhood.

    God bless,
    Anthony Lichoudaris

  7. Congratulations on 30 years of marriage. Take your wife somewhere nice!!!!
    David Williams

  8. It annoys me that the general community see this as just a Roman Catholic issue, whereas it is a feature of our Godless community, which should be of concern to every Christian.
And the Protestant churches as a whole by their silence, have been content to leave the RC Church to do all the heavy lifting on this one.
    Phil Manley

  9. Dear Bill,
Instead of just “dead babies’, maybe your caption should have read “murdered babies”. There’s a difference and it IS the truth. Take care and God continue to guide & bless you.
    Mandy Varley
