SCOTUS: A Massive Win For Life

Wonderful news for the unborn:

In a 6-3 decision, the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) has overturned the infamous Roe v Wade decision of nearly 50 years ago. The momentous news was greeted with tears and cheers from prolifers, while the pro-death crowd is already threatening more bloodshed, this time on the streets. One news report says this:

The US Supreme Court on Friday ended the right to abortion in a seismic ruling that shreds half a century of constitutional protections on one of the most divisive and bitterly fought issues in American political life. The conservative-dominated court overturned the landmark 1973 “Roe v Wade” decision that enshrined a woman’s right to an abortion, saying that individual states can now permit or restrict the procedure themselves.

“The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” the court said. In the majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito said “abortion presents a profound moral issue on which Americans hold sharply conflicting views. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” he said.

Dissenting were the three liberals on the court. The ruling will likely set into motion a cavalcade of new laws in roughly half of the 50 US states that will severely restrict or outright ban and criminalise abortions, forcing women to travel long distances to states that still permit the procedure. The opinion shredded the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling by the nation’s highest court that said women had the right to abortion based on the constitutional right to privacy over their own bodies.

Let me say at the outset what this decision does NOT mean. It does NOT make abortion illegal in America. It will NOT send women overseas to kill their babies. It does NOT mean a bunch of men decided on the fate of women. One of the six majority judges was a female: Amy Coney Barrett. The three liberal minority justices included a man: Stephen Breyer, along with Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. Nobody’s rights have been taken away.

All this does is return America to the status quo, to the way things were prior to Roe. That is, each of the 50 states will determine how they proceed on abortion. That is how it always should have been: let the people decide, not a handful of unelected judges. Some states will look at various regulations, some might keep it open slather, and some might tighten things up.

So some states that have tightened restrictions will likely remain in that camp. Some states that want fewer abortions, such as Texas, will keep moving in that direction. And other states will keep abortion legal, such as California where Gov. Newsom has already made that pledge, and is touting the state as an abortion tourism destination. As I say, in one sense, little has changed. We simply have burst the bubble that claimed there was a right to abortion in the US Constitution.

But it was a crucial decision nonetheless. What happens in the US tends to have an impact around the world. Australian prolifers will be greatly heartened by this, but do not expect any major changes here real soon. We will have to keep working at this and keep praying about this. Here is what Teeshan Johnson of Cherish Life Queensland said about the momentous decision:

What can only be described as a pro-life reformation and the beginning of a new era, was massively helped along by former President Trump’s appointment of three (3) conservative judges to the US Supreme Court. What does this mean for Australia and the rest of the world? A LOT. Firstly, in time there’s likely to be many babies saved as a result – we are so thankful! Secondly, if the USA can do it, with God’s help, so can we.

Conceded we have a different system of government, but it’s undeniable there is a turning of the tide and increasingly people are horrified by abortion, even abortion to birth. Today we are celebrating with our US pro-life peers and giving thanks for this glorious breakthrough in the fight for life. Just think how many more babies will be born! Let’s keep contending, we can do it, Australia! God bless.

Long-time prolife politician from Victoria Bernie Finn said this: “My very warmest congratulations to my friends in the United States who have been fighting for years to overturn Roe. Today, I remember those who dedicated their lives to this day – some who are no longer with us. They will be celebrating in Heaven tonight! This is a momentous day for humanity. This will save lives. This is just the beginning. I love ALL babies. We must protect ALL babies!”

And NSW pastor Mark Powell put it this way: “After years of prayer and political pressure, the infamous Roe v Wade legislation has been overturned in the United States. This is an incredible moment in the history of the West, and signals a turning in the cultural tide. Just as with the falling of the Berlin Wall, there is hope that evil regimes with their murderous laws need not dominate.” https://blog.canberradeclaration.org.au/2022/06/25/roe-v-wade-has-fallen/

Yes quite right. This really does seem to be a Berlin Wall sort of situation. Just earlier this week we had the wonderful decision by FINA to bring sanity to women’s sport, with other sporting bodies also looking to follow suit to deal with the trans revolutionaries.

And now we might have a tsunami of prolife decisions around the world. We can only keep working and praying to that end. Proverbs 21:15 sums up this incredible ruling: “When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous, but terror to evildoers.”

Spiritual considerations

That leads us to a spiritual take on the matter. One of the first things I said on the social media upon hearing about the SCOTUS development was this: “Fantastic news – now watch all hell break out from the pro-death mobs.” And that is exactly what will be happening big time. If you thought the cities burning down because of BLM rioters was intense, wait and see what will happen now in America.

Just last week I wrote a piece reminding us that the fight over abortion is much more than political and social – it is cultural as well. I reminded folks what Jesus said about our spiritual enemy in John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” I went on to say this.

The contrast could not be any greater. And the abortion battlefield is as close as you will get in seeing this fully fleshed out. The pro-aborts quite literally are doing their master’s bidding: to steal, kill and destroy – certainly babies at least. Pro-lifers on the other hand are here to give life and to save life. It is the difference between night and day.

The most recent and obvious example of Satan fully enraged and fully going on the warpath concerns the decision by the US Supreme Court to revisit Roe v. Wade, the 1973 abortion case. It was recently leaked that it just might be overturned. All hell broke out over that one.

Angry and fanatical pro-aborts have declared war on SCOTUS, churches and the pro-life movement. There have been plenty of death threats already, and numerous cases of vandalism and fire-bombing taking place. Satan is mad as hell, and so are his followers. https://billmuehlenberg.com/2022/06/13/abortion-is-not-just-a-social-or-political-issue/

Indeed, this decision and the reaction by the pro-aborts tells us everything we need to know about the left:
The left when they get their way: We must accept the democratic decision!
The left when they do not get their way: This was not democratic – burn everything down!

As has been rightly pointed out, we haven’t seen the Democrats this pissed off since the Republicans freed their slaves. So we all need to pray double time. Spiritual warfare has just ramped up massively, and the baby killers will be going on the warpath – quite literally. They have already threatened plenty of bloodshed and worse. So we must keep praying for things, especially in the US.

And we can expect similar scenes here in Australia, if on a somewhat lesser scale. Those who can kill a baby in the womb without a tinge of conscience are capable of doing similar things to others who dare to stand up for the sanctity of life and the right of babies to live.

In sum, a half century of prayer and very hard work by millions of concerned citizens is starting to pay off. This is not the end of abortion in America however. Indeed, it is simply a new chapter in the culture wars and the battles for life. We can celebrate, briefly, but we will need to get right back to work – and prayer, on Monday morning.

  1. We have a great ruling thank God but let us NOT celebrate too long we just fire a direct shot at satan with this a huge bomb dropped. It takes at least some child SACRIFICES from him, it is still legal completely in some states and for many weeks in others and ban in some but with abortion tourism the numbers won’t drop quite as much as some might think, and he will not stand idly by. His people have been preparing for this for, I would like to say for a month and a half but honestly I think they have known for a long time this day would come, sometime and will not let this just happen quietly.

Add to that Democrats who desperately want to have something to distract from Joe Biden’s disastrous administration and maybe prevent the shellacking the are going to get in November. A unhinged groups causing mass chaos throughout the nation with burning and possibly killing, including the justices who ruled on this, might give the perfect martial law excuse.

All hell is about to be unleashed upon the US especially the faithful in her. Pray for personal safety and for people’s safety in general. This is almost certainly going to get ugly.

  2. Yes Paul things will now get REAL ugly. Blood will flow, not just in the abortion mills as during the past half century, but on the streets. The pro-death crowd are massive haters, willingly led by their dark overlord Satan. Please pray for this volatile situation in the US.

  3. This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. Psalm 118:23 KJV

    AUSTRALIA NEXT!

  4. @Paul Wilson

“We are not loose young women” until they are, and in need of abortion; they can’t all be rape victims crossing state lines. In other words individual states will appear either ‘decent or indecent’. And the Democrats can’t ‘burn everything down’ before Nov due to the fact that abortion is now state legislation, and every Democrat opposed to “mayhem” [along with petrol and inflation etc.] will then vote for the Republicans instead.

  5. Thanks Bill.
Naturally I share the jubilation at the overturn of the Roe v. Wade ruling, but I share your concern that it is far from the end of the road on the issue. There are many obstacles to hurdle before abortion is banned completely. However, one thing I see coming out of this already, and that is this:
A massive blow has been dealt against judicial activism, whereby judges have imagined they can legislate from the bench. This has been a leftist. tactic for years, since they (the pro-death leftists) have realised they can get no mileage from the legislative branch, so they have resorted to the courts. Roe v. Wade was an outstanding example of this. I think that the pro-life people will realise this and campaign accordingly.

As far as our situation here is concerned, I have a couple of observations:
    1. Pastors should applaud the decision from their pulpits, and pray that the same will happen here. However, I fear that the response of many will be, “It’s too political, and it will divide congregations if I make any such statement, and pray accordingly”. Their condemnation will be just.
    2. A golden opportunity for Gospel witness has opened up: in opening our mouth for the dumb (Prov 31:8) we can testify to God who created life, and Christ the Prince of life: “Therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live”, Deut 30:19.

  6. Donkey leader in Congress, nominal Catholic Pelosi called abortion a”sacred right”. The ultimate distortion-the deliberate taking of human life is “sacred”. (Dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a deity.)
The only deity worshipped in the act of abortion is Satan, and the unborn child is the sacrifice on the alter of convenience to self.
In an amazing twist of logic of the current cultural malaise we find happening, a man has a right to be a woman who then has a right to have a baby. The man/woman then had the right to kill the baby he/she had a right to have.
May our prayers be that all the other death cult practices so praised in the MSM will be bumped off one by one.
Praise God for the 6 who stared down Satan’s acolytes.

  7. Mike I’m not sure where the quote in your first paragraph is from??

Murray even worse there are the pastors who will be CONDEMNING this in their pulpits. Saying these Justices acted against God and have brought condemnation on America. I could see a unhinged leftist listening to such a sermon and believing than killing the justices would be God’s work. Others that fight this by any means necessary would be a holy cause. We’ve seen what Muslims do in their holy wars well the left can do the same in their holy war!

  8. While we celebrate this great victory, I cannot help but think the decision should be irrelevant. Irrelevant in so much as in an ideal world it would be impossible to find a doctor to perform an abortion, just as it would be impossible to find a doctor to perform sex change procedures on a child, or an adult for that matter and it would be impossible to find a doctor willing to euthanise a person. People are starting to question the medical profession and some very questionable ethics. I muse over the possibility that coercion to receive vaccines is a “close to home” situation contributing to a newfound unease in the formally ambivalent.

  9. I don’t understand how anyone can not see aborting a human baby is wrong. They have feelings/senses so early on, it’s just so very wrong on that score let alone any other.

  10. While this is good news, it is certainly not the time to become complacent. While the number of abortions may possibly decrease overall, they will obviously still continue. But what has not changed is the attitude of the cultural heart on this issue. I’m not sure about others, but I find it terrifying in the extreme living in a culture that claims the right to decide who has the right to live and who does not – we have the oldest, most vulnerable members of society deemed past their ‘use-by date’ being talked into euthanasia, and the youngest, most vulnerable members of society deemed to be not even human so we can do away with them as we see fit.
And in recent years we have had plenty of others in between who have been deemed disposable when circumstances have left them comatose, and some supposed ‘authority’ in a hospital determines that the life they are living has no value. A society that lets human worth (or otherwise) be determined by decree of the few makes me fearful of what the next ‘non-human’ category will be. Will it be a characteristic that I have or those I love?

  11. With ultrasounds, etc, I can’t understand how anyone could think of the embryo as anything else but human. In a discussion on FB I had someone suggest it was ‘indistinguishable from a pig’s embryo.’ When I had a miscarriage at about 7 or 8 weeks, I could tell it wasn’t a pig!!

  12. A few months ago Fox News broke the story of abortion clinics in Washington DC doing full term abortions and of the trafficking of baby body parts. Pro life activists went to the scene after tip offs by medical waste companies who stumbled across multiple buckets in a truck containing dozens of babies, most from 20 to 24 weeks but some as late as 35 weeks. The medical waste company drivers will never be the same again and the pro lifers will never be the same again. The footage from their videos is abhorrent and outright nauseating.
