On the UK Elections

The general election in the UK will be held on Thursday May 7. As usual, the two main parties will be slugging it out: the Conservative Party vs the Labour Party. The Liberal Democrats have been the third main player for a while now, but newcomers could make a real move here, including UKIP (the United Kingdom Independence Party), the Greens, and the SNP (Scottish National Party). Results may be a hung parliament, as with the last election, and/or a new coalition, depending on how some of the newer, smaller parties fare.

Even though I was in the UK last year for a period, I am of course not English, nor an expert on how this election will pan out. However I can offer a number of vignettes about some of the parties and candidates, and the general state of play in the UK.

uk 3I have of course written many dozens of articles about this land and the great problems it is experiencing, including the general moral freefall, the jackhammer of the militant homosexualists, suffocating PC, the rise and rise of Islam, and the fall and fall of Christianity.

All this makes for a frightening future, which is why Thursday’s election is important indeed. So let me look at a few of these issues. Let me start with the perennial nutjob party, the Greens. In their latest outrage they actually said that polyamory is just peachy – at least their leader thinks so.

As one media report states: “The Green Party is ‘open’ to the idea of three-person marriages, Natalie Bennett has said. Ms Bennett said she was “open to further conversation and consultation” about the prospect of the state recognising polyamorous relationships. She made the comments in conversation with PinkNews, the LGBT website.”

The Greens around the world of course are hardly at all about the environment, and are really all about the most extreme and radical social engineering possible. But the nutters and nation wreckers are not much better in the Labour Party. Consider this mind-boggling bit of dhimmitude from their leader:

A future Labour Government is committed to outlaw the scourge of Islamophobia by changing the law and making it an aggravated crime, according to the Party’s Leader Ed Miliband. “We are going to make it an aggravated crime. We are going to make sure it is marked on people’s records with the police to make sure they root out Islamophobia as a hate crime,” Miliband told the Editor of The Muslim News, Ahmed J Versi in a wide ranging exclusive interview.

Islamophobia a crime! Add that to the Greens’ nonsense, and we likely would have homophobia and polyphobia made into crimes as well. The loonies are running the parties there, and political correctness and anti-Christian animus seems to be at an all-time high.

A phobia, which is an irrational fear, is now to be punished as a crime? The thought police and thought crimes which we were warned about in novels like 1984 are now quickly becoming a reality in the land which was once known as Great Britain.

But wait, there’s more. The Labour party it seems is fully committed to deceptive dhimmitude and making sure sharia law rules the whole land. Consider this bizarre act of subservience to misogynist Islam:

Labour has defended an election rally in Birmingham where men and women sat separately – after UKIP leader Nigel Farage said the event was “wholly unacceptable.” The rally, attended by Labour election candidates standing in Birmingham and the Black Country, was advertised as having a “women’s section”, and photos taken at the event show men and women sitting apart.

There will be a whole lot more of this sort of segregation and discrimination if Labour gets in, and their pro-Islam madness is given even a greater run. For millennia Christianity worked to elevate the status of women and bring in real equality, but it seems the leftist parties are committed to undoing all this overnight. My, how the nation has fallen!

In stark contrast to this grovelling before all things Islamic and homosexual, UKIP is taking a stand for some common sense and some real values:

The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) has issued a manifesto of its adherence to Christian values, saying that there must be a more “robust” defence of Christianity. The party’s leader, Nigel Farage, stated that the political class in Britain has lost sight of the nation’s Christian roots.
“We will uphold robustly the rights of Christians, as well as those of other faiths, to worship as they wish and to espouse their beliefs openly, within the limits of the common law,” the party said in its “Christian manifesto,” thus far, the only such document produced by any British political party.
UKIP says the party is “proud of Britain’s Judaeo-Christian heritage,” which it says “underpins our culture, our legal code and our system of governance. We will stand up for it because we believe it is as integral, relevant and important a part of life in Britain today as it has ever been.”
“Sadly, I think UKIP is the only major political party left in Britain that still cherishes our Judaeo-Christian heritage. I believe other parties have deliberately marginalised our nation’s faith, whereas we take Christian values and traditions into consideration when making policy,” Farage said.

And conservative London mayor Boris Johnson also has added a bit of sanity here as this headline makes clear: “Boris Johnson: ‘Sharia law in the UK is absolutely unacceptable’.” The article begins:

Boris Johnson has branded Sharia Law in the UK as “absolutely unacceptable”, as he slammed Church of England clerics who say the Islamic legal code should be incorporated into British law. Speaking on LBC radio this morning, the London Mayor said he was opposed to “a Sharia system running in parallel with UK justice.”
His remarks come a day after Home Secretary Theresa May called for an investigation into the application of Sharia law in England and Wales if Conservatives win the General Election.
But the mayor said he took “grave exception” to Church of England clerics who suggest the principles of Sharia could be introduced into the legal system. Former archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams sparked controversy in 2008 when he suggested it was “inevitable” that elements of Sharia would be incorporated in British law.

Of course all this is just scratching the surface of what are some of the major concerns in the UK, and just how important this election really is. While the Conservatives and David Cameron are far from perfect, and have been such a great disappointment in so many areas, the only consoling thing we can say is they are not quite as bad as Labour and the Greens.

And while UKIP is certainly not perfect either, I for one hope it does very well in this election, and perhaps becomes a coalition partner with the Conservatives. The UK is going down the tubes fast, and freedom, faith and family are all taking a huge hammering right now.

If the leftists get into power, these three will take even further hammering. Indeed, it may well spell the end of real freedom, the Christian faith, and the institutions of marriage and family. So this is a vitally significant election indeed. So we all can at least pray that righteousness will prevail, exalting the nation. Pray for Cameron, Miliband, Clegg, Farage and other leaders.

While politics cannot save, politics is important nonetheless, and while no governments are ideal, or a panacea, some can be far worse than others. God save the UK.

  1. Under the Greens, “Britain will leave NATO, end the special relationship with the US, and unilaterally abandon nuclear weapons. A standing army, navy and airforce is “unnecessary”. Bases will be turned into nature reserves and the arms industry “converted” to producing windturbines.”

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/green-party/11356354/Drugs-brothels-al-Qaeda-and-the-Beyonce-tax-the-Green-Party-plan-for-Britain.html

You almost want them to get everything they want, so the whole world knows once and for all what happens when these types get power. The disaster would be tremendous.

  2. Thanks Bill. Why would any country, political party etc want to choose the EVIL of Islam over the FREEDOM of our Judeo-Christian Heritage.
We have only just recently remembered ANZAC day – how could the Politicians forget so easily the HUGE sacrifice men & women made for England?
They shed their precious blood for the FREEDOM Great Britain now enjoys!!!
IF Islam & the Muslim’s TRULY believe in the GOD of CREATION – ALMIGHTY GOD, then they should gladly embrace the Laws of Great Britain.
Under Sharia Law, Homosexuals & Lesbians are put to death in Islamic countries – so it’s Lunacy that the two political parties that promote these things are keen to bring in Sharia Law in the UK

  3. The tragedy is that David Cameron, as leader of the Conservatives, has disaffected his right (aka moral) wing by calling us loons and fruit cakes and being “proud of introducing homosexual” so called marriage. This has hugely enhanced the UKIP vote. He has brought this crisis and chaos all upon his own party by himself. What a tragedy that the Conservatives are no longer a moral or right wing party, the same has of course also happened in the Republican party in the US.

Thank you Bill for an excellent summary of the heart of the issues in 1,250 words. Bless you.

  4. “A future Labour Government is committed to outlaw the scourge of Islamophobia….” you’d think they wpuld be committed to outlaw islam rather than the opposite. Are people really that blind???

  5. Right on, Bill !
Oh this appears to be a stunning fall from Christian roots, with the USA running neck and neck towards the cliff also.

Thank you for telling the Truth boldly and keep it up, sir.

    God bless you,

    Jeff

  6. Bill, I am man in Russia. I see the world changing in bad ways. The homosexual is taking over. We must stop that evil force. The world needs more strong government that listens to church and tells homosexual they are people who must listen and not speak. I have woman and we make children. Man and man cannot make next generation. Adam and Stiv is not Adam and Iv. Pheh I say to homosexual. Thank you good man. You stand up to the evil forces.

  7. Excellent Bill ..I suspect the only way to highlight what is happening is to keep using the word “looney” ..because that’s what it is… “lunacy”… and “bullying” from The Left and the homosexual lobby…I wonder if they get all they want will they be happy.? Or as Euripides said “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad”. What a disappointment has my namesake David Cameron been…

  8. Bill,
Your synopsis on UKIP is incomplete.
How can a Christian vote for a party that publishes on its website that homosexuality is morally equivalent to heterosexuality and vice versa?
How can a Christian vote for a party that will retain same sex marriage because gays love each other?
How can a Christian vote for a party that endorses abortion?
How can a Christian vote for a party that says religious freedoms are subject to British Values (aka pro-gay laws)?
How can a Christian vote for a party that appoints a heavy weight homosexual activist Peter Whittle as their Culture and Values spokesperson?
    I could go on…

I will be spoiling my vote with the words “As a Christian I can vote for none of these.” http://www.christiandoctrine.com/politics-list-view/1402-as-a-christian-i-can-vote-for-none-of-these-ge2015

UKIP has offered warm sounding platitudes to Christians, but the overarching rule of values of UKIP are pro-homosexual and therefore are Satan’s values. Can’t anybody else see that?

  9. Thanks James. Of course my well wishes for UKIP had mainly to do with the fact that they are one of the few parties to clearly realise the dangers of Islam – which in my view is vitally important. As I said, they certainly are not perfect, and many of their policies I would not be happy with. In that sense they are quite similar to Geert Wilders’ political party in Holland. I support him and his Islam critical realism, but I don’t support his and his party’s pro-homosexual policies, etc.

Regrettably we are not offered anything resembling perfect Christian parties here. And of course Cameron also is pro-homosexual. While various independents and so on can be supported, a Labour win, or a Labour/Greens win would be much worse in my eyes. So I am seeking to be a realist here. In a fallen world, our political choices are often greatly limited alas. So my only hope is a possible Conservative/UKIP coalition. It certainly is not my cup of tea in so many areas, but the alternatives seem to be far worse.

  10. David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg …

PROV 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

  11. What nutter would outlaw any criticism of the most barbaric, supremacist, totalitarian, pathologically cruel ideology the world has ever seen?

  12. Sadly Bill, we are not too far behind them. I remember the Australia I grew up in, not perfect, but a much better place than it is today. We seem now to be on the same path of self destruction as the UK, Western Europe and the USA. I can’t believe that we have extended the hand of kindness and generosity to people who hate us, and want to kill us.

    Absolute madness!

  13. Sadly many of the younger, wet behind the ears, generation have swallowed the Green Manifesto without it even touching the sides. Whilst they decry the killing of foxes and Isis decapitations, they are enthusiastic about 200,000 decapitations, mutilations and dismemberments of babies in the womb, each and every year in Britain.
To use a pun; Pol Pot would be Green – with envy.
As for UKIP, Nigel Farage is not a Christian and yet he appears to understand that if we lose our Judeo Christian roots , we lose everything. It has taken a pagan to be “The Defender of The Faith,” whilst Queen Elizabeth 11, having reneged on Her Coronation Oath of protecting Christians, has gone AWOL.
It took a pagan, King Xerxes to save the Jewish Nation during the time of Queen Esther. Indeed there are many examples of God using such pagans to come to the rescue of His people.
There are many Christians who will not support Nigel Farage because he has said that the will not reverse same sex marriage. But it is unrealistic to expect anyone to reverse laws overnight laws that have been passed since Roy Jenkins, a bisexual adulterer, began the moral deconstruction of Britain, in 1967. He was the harbinger of the meltdown of the social fabric of our once great nation [1]
As you, Bill, rightly quoted T.S. Elliot, in one of your articles [2], ‘The American-British poet and critic wrote an important volume in 1948 entitled, Notes Towards the Definition of Culture. His thoughts are well worth recalling:
“If Christianity goes, the whole of our culture goes. Then you must start painfully again, and you cannot put on a new culture ready – made. You must wait for the grass to grow to feed the sheep to give the wool out of which your new coat will be made. You must pass through many centuries of barbarism. We should not live to see the new culture, nor would our great-great-great-grandchildren: and if we did, not one of us would be happy in it.”’
I believe Nigel Farage understands this. He cannot undo overnight what has taken decades to produce, but the reality is that he is the only one making a move in the opposite directions. It may be too little, too late, but at least he is making the effort and we need to support him, rather than criticise him. I shall be voting UKIP.
Indeed I shall, God willing, be a visible presence, standing in the polling booth tomorrow, in the very heartland of ‘Sodom by the Sea’, Bournemouth Town Hall, with my UKIP purple and gold rosette.
Please pray for our once great nation.

  14. I think it would be good idea, Bill, if you were to post your 2007 article, “When Nations Collapse” again or update it, just to remind us of just how far we have traveled into the darkness in eight years.

  15. As a patron of Christian Soldiers in UKIP can I urge folk not to be fooled by recent supposedly pro LGBT propaganda about UKIP swirling around. Yes, the LGBT have tried to infiltrate UKIP, even forging a supposed interview with Nigel Farage in ‘Pink News’ last year.

It is going on right now.

UKIP is not a ‘Christian Party’ – such a thing does not meaningfully exist anyway – but alone of the parties in the UK has clearly set out support for Christians in the public arena.
All other parties have done the opposite

Farage spent an afternoon in conversation with Bishop Nazir Ali last year.

Farage himself has had ‘in your face’ confrontations with the homosexual brigades violently try to shut him up.

  16. I agree with the comments made by Dr.James Waddell. I would not want any Christian to vote for UKIP. They have an LGBT group within their ranks with the approval of Nigel Farage, and, at their recent conference they gave their seal of approval to transgender mutilating surgery by having a tragic individual called Frank Maloney as their special speaker. Frank Maloney had mutilating surgery and now calls himself Kelly Maloney. UKIP went along with the madness by calling him Kelly and by having him as a speaker. UKIP have also courted the Muslim vote by visiting mosques and, until recently, they had a Muslim as their small Business spokesman. He earned his living by serving meat from animals that had been slaughtered in the barbaric Muslim way i.e halal. To any Christian in that Party, I say, come out of UKIP without delay.

  17. Hi Bill
Some additional observations from the UK.

The ‘nutter’ leader of the Greens, Natalie Bennett, is in fact Australian!

You didn’t touch on potentially the most dangerous aspect of this election, namely a minority government propped up by the Scottish Nationalists whose very high-profile leader is not even standing for a seat in Westminster but who is opposed to ‘ austerity’ and will insist on massive future borrowings to plunge the economy back into the morass it was at the end of the last Parliament. When the Conservative Treasurer came to office in 2010, his predecessor had left a note saying “There’s no money”!

However, the major problem with your advocacy for UKIP is the first-past-the-post electoral system here in the UK. I am in a very safe Conservative seat and so my vote probably will not matter, but the very real problem of voting UKIP is to split the right-wing vote and allow Labour in by default. Under the UK system, if Labour gets 30% of the vote in an electorate, the Conservatives 29% and UKIP 28%, the Labour candidate gets elected. Add to that the fact that voting is optional, and at the 2010 elections, there was only a 65% turn-out nationally, it means a candidate can be elected by a mere 20% of an electorate!

Where UKIP has already had a positive influence is to get the Conservatives to agree to a referendum on whether the UK should stay in the EU. I should add that when I spoke to someone from UKIP in one of the marginal electorates a couple of days ago and asked him about gay marriage, his response was “that issue has now gone and there’d need to be a major groundswell of support to get it back on the agenda.”

I too would like to see UKIP do well and, ideally, be in coalition with the Conservatives. However, my fear is that the better they do, the more likely we will be to have the unholy alliance of Labour being propped up by the Scottish Nationalists who, incidentally, are being tipped to take EVERY seat in Scotland.

  18. Can anyone deny that this is a ‘White Christian Country’? No. That means it is time that the politicians that govern/ hope to govern, must stop being racist against its own white population. In the recent scandals where thousands of girls have been sexually violated by Asian Muslims, nothing was done for years even thought it was known to police and Councils as to what was happening. Nothing was done because of the fear of being branded racist – Blair and Cameron’s book of ‘political correctness’. Had it been the opposite and Muslim girls are being violated by whites, it would have taken far less time for the authorities to act. But the foolishly tolerant public does not seem to give a damn

  19. Like David I will be voting UKIP tomorrow and have been delighted at the positive responses received on doorsteps whilst out canvasing. I have just seen this by Deborah Pitt

“I will be voting UKIP. Because I am more concerned with what I will get, even though it falls short of what I would like, than what I won’t. get. I think in this political and cultural moral morass we should thank God for the small mercies we do have. Compared to the rest (including Plaid Cymru and the SNP) UKIP is a light in the darkness. Let’s work with what opportunities we have and encourage that light rather than curse the darkness. UKIP is probably the only party in which the Christian viewpoint will be heard, things are so bad. Paul Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader, has described sex education for five year olds as a ‘disgrace’, and politically correct nonsense’ and there is more to be thankful for, see the Chirstian Institute’s excellent UK Election Briefing 2015. It includes comprehensive overviews of what the other main parties have done and intend to do. I thank God for the differences between these and UKIP.”

“If God fades away in the conception of reality, absolutes fade, everything fades. Humanists prefer this, but they end up with more than they bargain for. When God fades, truth fades, so why seek truth? When God fades, ethics fade, so why argue for any kind of moral imperative? Man’s reality fades, so why engage in the struggle for life at all ? When humanist man arrives at full self-consistency, he loses any and all transcendent purpose for life. That is when post modern man and his societies commit suicide.” We are at this point.

The crux of the worldview conflict which has ravaged our cultures and entered the foyer of the Christian church in the third millennium A.D. is the denial of God’s right to be God, and the usurpation of that right by man. In a word, it is a life or death struggle over sovereignty. Who will be sovereign–man or God?” Most nowadays say man.

Whatever happened to Western civilization? Somehow, Christians have lost ground in every cultural area of leadership and influence in Europe and America since 1700. This is an indubitable fact. The remaining Christians search for an explanation. They want to know how it happened. This is the story of the decline and fall of Western civilization. It is the story of uncommonly powerful men, unfathomably evil men, apostates. We now face head-on the spiritual forces that have levelled a full-out attack on the Christian faith in the Western world over 300 years. On the one hand, this is a story of arrogance and pride, demonic possession, insanity, suicide, mass-murder, adultery, homosexuality, cultural and social revolutions, and unbridled, maniacal apostasy and evil and death. It is apostasy on a massive scale.

But it is also a story of hope and victory for the last men standing in the ashes of Western civilization. It will be a testimony to the triumph of Jesus Christ over the so called men of great public renown who picked the wrong fight in the history of the West when they set themselves up against God.

The end is truly near! Let’s have our lamps full and wicks trimmed and ready hearts to SEE the One WHO SAVED US WITH SO GREAT A PRICE!

  20. All very sad. US commentator David Greenfield has referred to “the twilight of the West” and that, indeed, is what we are seeing.

One of the scariest things is the way in which conservative parties in the UK, USA and even Australia are moving leftwards, perhaps in the forlorn hope that this will make them acceptable to the left-wing media and to the brainwashed young.

We are heading, subtly but inexorably, towards what will be virtually a one-party state, in which all major parties follow “progressive” policies whose only real progress is towards the precipice.

I hasten to add that I am not a supporter of extreme right-wing, racist parties.

My comfort is in knowing that ultimately, everything is in the hands of the Almighty God of the Bible. The return of Jesus is our one true hope.

  21. Praying hard. There has been a smear campaign against UKIP – I don’t believe a word of it. It’s so obviously contrived and timed as a “stitch-up”.

This article on a LibDem website asserts that this person Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett, who is now a LibDem parliamentary candidate, is the person behind the 2010 demand for same-sex marriage by the Coalition government, Also that he is a junkie who DELIBERATELY infected himself with HIV. He admits leading a life of wild drug-abuse and promiscuity and blames it all on other people. Do you think he would make a good MP or should he be sectioned under the Mental Health Act? Of course he claims he was “bullied”. Fact is we are being bullied into paying £25,000 per year for his drug treatment on the NHS.

  22. Unfortunately its looking like it could be Labour along with the Leftist SNP holding the balance of power.

Some are saying UKIP has made it impossible for the Tories to win!?

  23. Latest news is that the Tories are going to win:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3072601/Election-results-2015-LIVE-General-election-exit-poll-suggests-Conservatives-victory.html

Labour Party and Liberal Democrats are big losers.

Sadly for UKIP followers, it seems UKIP won a fair amount of the popular vote but may only have one or two seats:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3072898/Is-Farage-heading-DEFEAT-Ukip-chief-set-lose-Thanet-South-forcing-resign-leader.html

SNP is the other big winner, may have the whole of Scotland at Labour’s expense.

  24. This is what I have just emailed to our sitting Conservative MP who has just retained his seat, John Glen MP:

    Dear John
Congratulations both personally and that the Conservatives look set for a majority, much better than a Labour/SNP coalition. Let’s trust that without the Liberal contribution in Government a more moral and Godly approach is taken.
    Blessings
    Naomi
